00:00Scenes of celebration like these have been a common sight over the last ten days at the
00:06World Heritage Committee meeting in India's capital, Delhi.
00:11This year, 24 new sites have been inscribed by the committee.
00:16This convention is not only about the inscriptions, it's about safeguarding and it's the starting
00:24point of the obligation that you as member states have.
00:30In the cultural category, 19 new sites have been included.
00:36China's Beijing Central Access has been added, recognizing its integrity, authenticity, protection
00:43and management status.
00:47The cultural site is really the treasure of humanity.
00:54People from all around the world, they have so much in common when we talk about culture
01:00and we value about culture.
01:03On the advice of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, or IUCN, as the official
01:09advisor on nature, four natural sites have been added to the list.
01:14China's Baideng Juran Desert, a world-renowned hyper-arid landscape with the abundance of
01:21striking inter-dunal lakes, was inscribed.
01:26The others are very diverse.
01:27We have sites that have been listed for their geological values, we have sites that have
01:31been listed for their cave biodiversity, the incredible animals that live isolated from
01:37the outside world.
01:38And we have a very important site that's been listed in China which recognizes a series
01:43of migratory sites for the birds that pass across many countries.
01:47The committee also considered properties in the endangered category and added the ancient
01:54pyramids at Gaza due to threats from the ongoing war.
01:59For us, it's a hope for people because, you know, our people are suffering too much and
02:05the inscription of this site became under the emergency basis and inscribed in the World
02:11Heritage List and in the World Heritage List Endangered.
02:16With the conclusion of this meeting, the UNESCO has inscribed a total of 1,223 properties
02:23across the world.
02:24The list of the esteemed sites is getting longer.
02:28India not only hosted the meeting for the first time but in a first, a site from the
02:32northeastern part of the country has been added to the list.
02:36Events like these highlight the importance of international cooperation in preserving
02:40cultural and natural resources.
