00:00Coming from the border are millions and millions of people that happen to be taking black jobs.
00:07You had the best —
00:08What exactly is a black job, sir?
00:11President Donald Trump went on the attack while appearing on stage at the National Association
00:14of Black Journalists convention in Chicago.
00:17The contentious appearance immediately went off the rails and saw the candidate question
00:21Vice President Kamala Harris' identity and again mention the idea of, quote, black jobs.
00:26Here's what Trump said to panelist Rachel Scott of ABC News after she reiterated his
00:30statements toward and about black communities and asked why they should vote for him.
00:34Well, first of all, I don't think I've ever been asked a question in such a horrible manner.
00:41First question.
00:42You don't even say, hello, how are you?
00:46Are you with ABC?
00:47Because I think they're a fake news network, a terrible network.
00:51The crowd booed as the former president criticized the media professionals on stage for being,
00:55quote, rude and 35 minutes late because you couldn't get your equipment to work.
00:59He went on to say this.
01:00I have been the best president for the black population since Abraham Lincoln.
01:07Trump also said that he was invited to the convention under false pretenses, adding that
01:11he expected that his opponent would be there too, be it President Joe Biden or Harris,
01:15who will not be in attendance at the convention.
01:18Trump later called into question Harris' identity as a black woman when asked about those in
01:21his camp calling her a, quote, DEI candidate.
01:25She was always of Indian heritage and she was only promoting Indian heritage.
01:30I didn't know she was black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn black
01:34and now she wants to be known as black.
01:37So I don't know.
01:38Is she Indian or is she black?
01:39She is always identified as a black woman.
01:42The former president fell into familiar tropes during the discussion as he attempted to demonize
01:46immigrants and pit the black population against them.
01:49People in this room and people outside of this room are going to be losing their jobs
01:54to people that have come into this country illegally.
01:57Toward the end of the event, Trump said that on day one of his presidency, if he were to
02:01win, he would, quote, close the border and bring energy prices and interest rates down.
02:05Trump left the stage shaking his head after it was announced that his campaign team had
02:09decided to cut his appearance short.
