00:00I am Tom Pearcey, I'm the controller of fun here at York Maze and birthday boy on Yorkshire Day.
00:07Today is the best day of the year for many reasons. Number one, it's my birthday. Number two,
00:13it's Yorkshire Day and today we are going to get Yorkshire man, Yorkshire's folk hero, to jump into
00:20this giant Yorkshire pudding filled with gravy. He's being coerced into this and he's going to
00:25end up smelling of onions and probably looking a bit like David Dickinson when he comes out.
00:29So I'm really looking forward to it.
00:46I built a giant oven out of a shipping container and we obviously fashioned some batter,
00:52made a massive pan, fried off this enormous Yorkshire pudding and then I've concocted
00:582,000 litres of finest Yorkshire onion gravy,
01:02which Yorkshire man's going to jump into and come out smelling as sweet as a rose afterwards.
01:09Thank you very much, give it up for the New York Brass Band everybody!
01:20You'll notice I'm wearing sunglasses in this to hide the fear behind my eyes.
01:26This is 2,000 litres of premium gravy inside a Yorkshire pudding and we figured to celebrate
01:34Yorkshire Day on this 2024 year, I would dive, bomb, belly flop, jump into it of some description.
01:42Give me a shout, do you want me to dive, bomb, belly flop or jump? Shout it out!
01:49It's a bit of an even split at the minute between a bomb
01:52and a belly flop, let's try those two. Bomb or belly flop?
01:59Regrettably, I wish I'd never asked the public this question if I'm being honest,
02:04I feel that the answer was belly flop!
02:10Look at the look at the fear in farmer Tom's eyes. Here we go, Tom come and stand here so you get a
02:15bit of a splash back. Can I give you this microphone Olivia, thank you very much.
02:20We're going to get a countdown going, when we get to one, I'd like you to all join me in my
02:25Yorkshire man catchphrase. You know Superman, he says up, up and away, I'm Yorkshire man so I don't
02:31say up, up and away, who knows what I say? A-up and away! It's catching on, it's catching on Tom,
02:37we've created a cult, brilliant, all right. Yorkshire folk, are you ready?
02:44People who aren't from Yorkshire but are here today so we'll call you honorary Yorkshire folk,
02:49are you ready? Two thousand litres of gravy, a Yorkshire pud and farmer Tom looking ever so
02:56nervous at my decision to belly flop into it. Let's get a countdown from 10, 9, 8, 7,
03:076, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
04:08I am Yorkshire man, Yorkshire's officially unofficial superhero,
04:12residing here at York Maze, Yorkshire's ultimate family day out and I've just done a ridiculous
04:19feat of stupidity to celebrate Yorkshire Day, I've jumped off a JCB into a giant Yorkshire
04:24pudding full of gravy, 2,000 litres of the stuff. I mean obviously I'm a Yorkshire man,
04:29so I only have one bath a year and this is it basically, this is my annual bath
04:33in gravy so I've been, I'd say I trained for 364 days, 365 if it's a leap year of course,
04:39for this very moment on the 1st of August each year. It's to be celebrated, people from Yorkshire
04:44are the best people in the world, there's a sense of identity that comes with being from Yorkshire,
04:48a sense of sarcasm and friendliness and all that comes with it and of course the sun has come out
04:52despite having been forecast not to so best day of the year always and always the best day of
04:57the year here at York Maze as well.
05:27Complete the set.
