00:00Isra, The Night Journey
00:06With the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Ever Merciful.
00:12Glory be to Him who carried His servant by night from the Holy Mosque at Mecca to the
00:18distant Mosque at Jerusalem, the precincts of which too we have blessed, that we might
00:24show Him some of our signs.
00:27In fact, He alone is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.
00:33And similarly, we gave Moses the Scripture, and we made it a guidance for the children
00:39of Israel, saying, Take no one as a disposer of affairs apart from Me.
00:45O you the progeny of those whom we bore in the ark, with Noah, to protect them from the
00:52deluge.
00:54He was indeed a grateful servant of ours.
00:58And in the Scripture we have conveyed to the children of Israel, with certainty, saying,
01:05Twice you shall create disorder in the land, and shall surely become exceedingly overbearing
01:10and arrogant.
01:13So when the first of the two warnings came, we roused against you.
01:19Some of our servants possessed of great valor and might in warfare, and they penetrated
01:25into the innermost recesses of your country and habitations.
01:30Indeed it was a warning about the punishment of Allah, bound to be carried out.
01:38Then we gave you back the power to prevail over these enemies of yours, and we helped
01:44you with various possessions and sons, and we increased your manpower militarily.
01:52We said, If you did good, you did it for your own selves, and if you did evil, it was only
02:00to the same end.
02:02So when the time for carrying out the latter warning came, we raised certain people against
02:09you to destroy your glory, so that they might do evil to you and your leading men, and invade
02:17and enter the mosque at Jerusalem in the same way as others of your enemies had invaded
02:24and entered it the first time, and so that they might destroy utterly all that they had
02:30conquered.
02:31Still, it is well nigh that your Lord will again have mercy on you, but if you return
02:38to mischief, we warn, we too will return to our punishment.
02:44We have made Gehenna a prison house for the ungrateful.
02:50This Qur'an assuredly guides to that which is most upright, and gives to the believers
02:57who do righteous deeds the glad tidings that there awaits them a great reward, and also
03:04warns that we have grievous punishment in store for those who do not believe in the
03:09hereafter.
03:12As it is many a time, a human being prays and calls for evil to himself, as he ought
03:18to pray and call for good.
03:21Human being is ever extremely hasty.
03:25And we have made the night and the day, such as they became two signs, in a way that we
03:31obliterated the sign of the night, and we displayed the sign of the day as sight, giving
03:38that you may seek the bounty of your Lord, and that you may learn from the alternation
03:44of night and day, the computation of years, and the science of all sorts of counting and
03:50measuring.
03:51We have clearly explained everything, and all knowledge of faith in detail.
03:59And every human being, we have made his deeds cling to his neck on the day of resurrection,
04:05and we shall bring out for him a book recording all his deeds, which he will find wide open.
04:14It will be said to him, Read your book, sufficient is your own conscience this day, as a reckoner
04:21against you.
04:23He who follows the right way, follows it to his own good, and he who goes astray, surely
04:30he goes astray to his own loss.
04:34And no soul that bears the burden shall bear the burden of another, and we never punish
04:39unless we have sent a messenger.
04:43And when we intend to destroy a township, we first address our command to its lawless
04:49people, who lead lazy lives, but they revolt therein so that it stands condemned, and we
04:56destroy it with an utter destruction.
05:00In accordance with this rule of ours, we have destroyed many a generation after Noah.
05:06And your Lord suffices as one who is aware and beholder of the sins of his servants.
05:14For him who desires the present transitory life only, we shall hasten an immediate reward
05:20for him in this very life, giving what we will to whom we will.
05:26But we have prepared Gehenna for him.
05:29He shall enter it condemned and rejected.
05:35As for those who choose the hereafter and strive for it, the striving that is its due,
05:41and are believers, it is these whose striving shall find favor with their Lord.
05:48To all of them, these who hanker after this world, as well as those whose choice is the
05:54life to come, we render aid, and this is out of the bounty of your Lord.
06:00The bounty of your Lord is not confined to any one section of the people.
06:06Behold how we have exalted some of them above others in the present life.
06:13Yet the hereafter holds out greater degrees of rank, and confers greater merits and excellence.
06:21Do not set up another god with Allah, lest you remain debased and forsaken.
06:31Your Lord has enjoined you to worship none but Him, and to be good to parents.
06:36If either or both attain old age while living with you, never say to them, Fee, any word
06:45expressive of disgust or dislike, nor reproach them by your action.
06:52Rather address them with kind and respectful words always.
06:58And lower to them the wings of submissiveness, out of tenderness, treating them with humility
07:06and compassion, and say, praying for them, My Lord, have mercy upon them, just as they
07:14nourished and brought me up as a child.
07:18Your Lord knows very well what is in your minds.
07:23If He will find that you are righteous, surely He is a great protector of those who turn
07:29to Him for forgiveness again and again.
07:33And give to the near of kin, and the needy, and the wayfarer their dues, and do not squander
07:40your wealth wastefully.
07:44Certainly the squanderers are like Satan's, and Satan is always ungrateful to his Lord.
07:51If you have to turn away from them, seeking the mercy from your Lord that you hope for,
07:57even then speak to them a kind word.
08:01And do not keep your hand shackled to your neck out of miserliness, nor stretch it out
08:07to an entire stretching extravagantly, lest you sit down reproached, incurring blame,
08:14and exhausted on becoming penniless.
08:18Surely your Lord multiplies His provisions and means of livelihood for such of His people
08:23as He will, and He measures it out justly, for He is well aware.
08:31And seeing the true needs of His people inside and out.
08:37And do not kill your children for fear of want.
08:41It is we who provide for them, as well as for you.
08:45Indeed the killing of them is a great sin.
08:50And keep away from adultery and fornication.
08:54Surely it is an abominable act, and an extremely evil practice.
09:00And do not kill anyone, the sanctity of which Allah has upheld, and has forbidden you to
09:07slay except for a just cause.
09:11And we have given, of course, to the heir of the person who is killed unjustly, the
09:16right to demand retribution or to forgive.
09:20But let him not exceed the prescribed limits in killing the murderer, because he is indeed
09:26helped and protected by law.
09:30And go not near to utilize the property of an orphan except in the fairest manner and
09:36intention in favor of the orphan, until he attains his age of full strength, when the
09:43property is to be returned to him.
09:47And fulfill your agreements, for every agreement is certainly questioned about and has to be
09:52accounted for.
09:55And give full measure when you measure out.
09:58And weigh with a right and even balance.
10:02That is best and most commendable in the long run.
10:08And do not follow and utter that of which you have no knowledge.
10:13Surely the ear and eye and the heart, all of these shall be called upon to account for
10:19it.
10:21And do not walk haughtily in the land, for you cannot thus rend the earth asunder, nor
10:28can you match the mountains in height.
10:32All these doings are such that the evil in them is simply hateful in the sight of your
10:36Lord.
10:38These teachings are a part of the wisdom which your Lord has revealed to you, and the basis
10:44of all these acts of righteousness is that you set up no other god beside Allah, lest
10:51you be cast into Jahannam, condemned, rejected.
10:57Disbelievers, has your Lord favored you with sons and chosen for himself daughters from
11:03among the angels?
11:06Surely most grievous is the blasphemy you utter.
11:11And certainly in this Quran we have explained for the people the truth in a variety of forms
11:18that they may take heed and become great, but their condition is such that it increases
11:24them only in aversion.
11:27Say, had there been other gods, as they allege, beside Him, the one God, in that case these
11:36polytheists would have certainly sought out by their help a way to the Lord of the mighty
11:42throne.
11:44Glory be to Him, and far high indeed be He exalted above the things these polytheists
11:51say.
11:53The seven heavens, the earth, and all those inhabiting them extol His glory.
12:01In fact there is not even a single thing but glorifies Him with His true and perfect praise,
12:07but you do not understand their glorification.
12:12Surely most forbearing is He, great Protector.
12:17And when you recite the Quran we place between you and those who do not believe in the hereafter
12:24an impregnable screen.
12:27And we cover their hearts with veils and plug their ears with something heavy, lest they
12:34should understand it.
12:36And when you mention the name of your Lord, who is the only one in the Quran?
12:42They turn their backs on it in aversion.
12:46We know very well the purpose of their listening when they listen to you, and the purpose with
12:51which they confer when they confer in private, and when the unjust say, you follow none but
12:58a man who is defrauded and deprived of reason.
13:03Behold how they coin similitudes to depict you, as a result of which they have gone astray.
13:12So they will not be able to find a way of their salvation.
13:18And they also say, what when we are reduced to bones and that too broken particles of
13:27dust, shall we then be really raised again to a new life?
13:33Say yes, even if you be reduced to stones or iron, or some other creation yet more hard
13:43that you can possibly conceive in your mind, even then you shall be raised to a new life.
13:50Thereupon they will say, who will restore us to life?
13:55Say, the same who originated you the first time.
14:00At this then they will shake their heads at you, expressing wonder and disbelief in being
14:06raised and will say, when will it come to pass?
14:11Say, maybe it is near.
14:16This promise will be fulfilled on the day when he will call you forth.
14:21Then you will respond to him, saying his praises, and you will think that you have
14:26tarried in the world only for a little while.
14:31And say to my servants that they should speak only what is gracious, for Satan is keen to
14:37provoke discord among them.
14:40Satan indeed is an enemy to the people, disuniting one another.
14:46Your Lord knows you best.
14:48He will have mercy on you, if he will, or he will punish you, if he will.
14:54And we have not sent you to be a disposer of their affairs, authorizing you to punish
14:59them or to reward them.
15:02And your Lord knows best those that are in the heavens and on the earth.
15:07And most surely we have exalted some of the prophets above others, and it is we who gave
15:14David the Zaboor.
15:17Say, call upon those whom you assert to be gods apart from him.
15:23Then you will realize they have no power to rid you of affliction, nor to avert it or
15:29transfer it to others.
15:32Those whom they call upon apart from him, thinking them to be a means of gaining nearness
15:37to God, themselves seek nearness to their Lord, and solicit his favor.
15:43Even those of them who are nearest to God are still competing to be closer to him, and
15:49hope for his mercy and fear his punishment.
15:53As a matter of fact, the punishment of your Lord is a thing to beware of.
16:00And there is no township, but we shall destroy it, or we shall subject it to a severe chastisement
16:06before the day of resurrection.
16:09That is written down in the book.
16:13And nothing could prevent us from going or sending our signs, though the former people
16:18cried lies to them.
16:20And we gave to Thamud the she-camel as an enlightenment and an eye-opener, but they
16:26dealt with her unjustly.
16:29And we do not send our signs except to warn the people against the evil consequences of
16:36disbelief and transgression.
16:39And Prophet, recall the time when we said to you, Surely your Lord has encompassed all
16:46people for destruction, and has power over them.
16:50Still they remained indifferent.
16:53We made the vision which we showed you being carried to Jerusalem from Mecca by night,
16:59and also the tree disapproved of in the Quran, a means of distinction between the good and
17:07the bad for the people.
17:09Despite the fact that we have been warning them by sending our signs, this warning from
17:15us only leads them to unrestrained inordinancy.
17:21And recall the time when we said to the angels, Submit to Adam.
17:28Then they all submitted.
17:30But Iblis, who too was told to do the same, did not.
17:36He said, Shall I submit to one whom you have created out of clay?
17:42And he added, What do you think?
17:46This is he whom you have honored and placed above me.
17:51If you grant me respite until the day of resurrection, I will most certainly bring his progeny
17:57under my sway.
17:59Having overpowered them, I shall destroy them for sure, except a few.
18:06Be gone, said he.
18:08As for those of them who follow you, Gehenna is the recompense of you all, an ample recompense.
18:17And beguile whomsoever of them you can with your speech, and rally your horsemen against
18:24them and your footmen, the fast riders and the slow walkers in disobedience, with all
18:29your might, and share with them their wealth and children, and hold out promises to them
18:36what you like.
18:37Indeed, Satan promises them nothing but mere fraud.
18:42As to my true servants, you shall certainly have no authority over them, and sufficient
18:49is your lord as disposer of affairs.
18:53Your lord is he who drives the ships on the sea for you, that you may seek of his bounty.
19:00He is certainly ever merciful to you.
19:03And when you encounter some distress on the sea, at that time all those gods whom you
19:09call upon are lost to you, but not he.
19:13Yet when he brings you safe to the land, you turn away from him.
19:18Of course such a person is very ungrateful.
19:22Do you then feel secure that he will not humiliate you in the side of the land and
19:28make you sink in the earth on the side of the shore, or send against you a violent squall
19:35of pebbles?
19:36For if he does, you shall find none responsible to protect and help you.
19:44Or do you feel secure and have made sure that he will not send you back in it a second time,
19:50and then send against you a fierce storm blast, and drown you because of your ingratitude?
19:57For if he does, you will find no helper in the matter for yourselves to protect you against
20:03us.
20:05And most surely we have made the children of Adam greatly honored and have carried them
20:11over land and sea, and we have provided them with good and pure things, and have distinctly
20:18exalted them far above most of our creation.
20:23Beware of the day when we shall call all people along with their leaders.
20:28Now whoever is given his book in his right hand, such will read their book eagerly, and
20:35they will not be dealt with unjustly in the least.
20:39But whoever remained spiritually blind in this world shall also be blind in the hereafter.
20:46He will even be farther removed from the right path.
20:52And they had spared nothing in causing you the severest affliction, with the purpose
20:57to turn you away from the revelations given to you, that you might forge in our name something
21:03different from that which we have revealed to you.
21:06In that case they would surely have taken you for a special friend.
21:12And if we had not made you firm and steadfast, you might have inclined towards them a little.
21:20In that case, if you had been one to forge a lie against us, we would have made you taste
21:27multiple sufferings in this life, and multiple sufferings in death, and then you would have
21:34found for yourself no helper against us.
21:39They had spared nothing in unsettling you from the land of Mecca, with the result that
21:45they drive you out from it.
21:47But in that case, they themselves would not have stayed after you except for a little
21:53while.
21:55Such has been our practice with those of our messengers whom we sent before you, and you
22:00will find no change in our practice.
22:05Serve prayer at the declining and paling of the sun, on to the complete darkness in
22:11diverse hours of the night, and recite the Qur'an at dawn.
22:17Verily, the regular recital of the Qur'an at dawn is specially acceptable to God and
22:24witnessed by the angels.
22:27And remain awake for it, for a part of the night, after having risen from sleep as a
22:33supererogatory service for you, thus it may be that your Lord will raise you to a laudable
22:39exalted position.
22:42And say in prayer, My Lord, grant that when I enter, wherever you take me to while migrating,
22:50I enter with truth in every way, and when I depart, I depart with truth, and grant me
22:58by your grace authoritative help.
23:02And say, Truth has come, and falsehood has vanished away.
23:09Falsehood is indeed ever bound to vanish away.
23:14And we are gradually revealing of the Qur'an that teaching which is the cause of healing
23:19and mercy for the believers.
23:22But this revelation only leads the unjust persons from loss to loss.
23:29And when we bestow favors on a human being, he turns away and withdraws himself aside.
23:36And when evil overtakes him, he is given to despair.
23:40Say, Everyone acts after his own way and fashion, and your Lord knows very well who is best
23:49guided in the right path.
23:52And they question you about the revelation and the human soul.
23:57Say, The revelation and the soul is by the command of my Lord, because little is the
24:03knowledge thereof that you have been given.
24:08Had we so willed, we could surely take away that which we had revealed to you.
24:14If we did so, you could find none to plead your cause to restore it to you against our
24:21will.
24:23But it is the special mercy from your Lord that he will not do so.
24:28His grace and favor upon you is a very great thing, in fact.
24:34Say, If there should join together all human beings and the jinn to produce the like of
24:41this Qur'an, they would never be able to produce anything like it, even though some of them
24:47might be the helpers of others.
24:51And in this Qur'an we have explained in various ways all kinds of rare things of exquisite
24:58beauty to humankind.
25:00But most people choose to reject everything except following the way of disbelief.
25:06And they say, We will never believe unless you cause a spring to gush forth for us from
25:13the earth.
25:14Or there be a garden of date palms and vines for you, and you cause the streams to gush
25:20forth abundantly in its mist.
25:24Or as you assert and claim that it shall happen, cause the heaven to fall down upon us in fragments,
25:32or bring Allah and the angels face to face with us.
25:38Or there be a house made of gold for you, or you ascend into the heaven.
25:44But we will not believe in your ascending till you bring down to us a book that we can
25:50read.
25:51Say, Glory be to my Lord, I am naught but a human being sent as a messenger.
26:01And nothing has prevented the people from believing when the guidance came to them except
26:05their sayings, Has Allah raised a human being like us as a messenger?
26:12Say, Had there been angels on the earth in place of human beings, walking about secure
26:19and sound, we too would have invariably sent down an angel from heaven as a messenger to
26:26them.
26:28Say, Allah suffices as a witness between me and you, surely he is ever aware of and sees
26:36his servants full well.
26:39He whom Allah guides to the right path is the only one rightly guided, but those whom
26:46he abandons to perish, you will find no protecting friends for them apart from him.
26:52And we shall gather them on the day of resurrection, dragging them on their faces.
26:58They shall be blind, dumb, and deaf, Jahanna is their resort.
27:05As often as it, the flames of the hell fire, abate, we shall add fuel to the blaze for
27:15them.
27:17Such shall be their recompense because they rejected our commandments and said, Shall
27:23we really be raised up as a new creation when after our death we are reduced to mere bones
27:29and broken particles of dust?
27:33Had they not seen that Allah who created the heavens and the earth has the power to create
27:39their like, and he has appointed for them a term, no doubt about it, yet the unjust
27:46would reject everything except following in the way of disbelief.
27:51Say, even if you possessed all the treasures of the mercy and blessings of my Lord, yet
27:58you would hold them back for fear of depleting, for a human being is very niggardly indeed.
28:06And most certainly we gave Moses nine clear signs.
28:12So ask the children of Israel about it.
28:16When he came to them, Pharaoh said to him, Moses, I think you to be under a spell and
28:24a victim of deception.
28:27He said, You know fully well that none other but the Lord of the heavens and the earth
28:33has revealed these signs as means of enlightenment.
28:38Surely I believe you, O Pharaoh, to be doomed to perish.
28:43So he resolved to weaken them by humiliating them and thus scare them out of the country.
28:51But we drowned him and those with him, one and all.
28:56And we said after it was all over with Pharaoh to the children of Israel, Settle down, occupying
29:04the promised land of Palestine.
29:07When the time of fulfillment of the second prophecy comes, we shall bring you back, gathering
29:12you from various lands.
29:15We revealed it, the Quran, to suit all the requirement of truth and wisdom, and it has
29:22come down to you with truth and wisdom.
29:25Prophet, we have sent you on one hand as a bearer of good tidings and as a warner on
29:33the other.
29:35We have divided this Quran into distinct chapters and have revealed it in stages, that you may
29:42recite it to humankind at intervals, and that is why we have revealed it piece by piece
29:49and in stages.
29:52Today you may believe in it or you may not believe.
29:58Those who have been given the spiritual knowledge before it fall down on their faces, prostrating
30:04submissively before their Lord when it is recited to them.
30:09And they say, Glory be to our Lord.
30:12The promise of our Lord is really bound to be fulfilled.
30:16They fall down on their faces, weeping, and as they listen to the divine words, it adds
30:23to their humility.
30:25Say, Call upon Him by the name of Allah, or call upon Him by the name of Ar-Rahman, the
30:33Most Gracious.
30:35In short, call upon Him by whatsoever name you like, all beautiful names belong to Him.
30:42And utter not your prayer in a loud voice, nor utter it in two low tones, completely
30:48concealing it, but seek a middle course.
30:52And say, All true and perfect praise belongs to Allah, who has not taken to Himself a son,
31:00and who has no associate partner in His kingdom, nor has He any helper because of any weakness.
31:08And extol His glory with repeated glorification.
31:17Al-Kaf
31:19The Place of Refuge
31:22With the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Ever Merciful.
31:28All type of true and perfect praise belongs to Allah, who has revealed this perfect book
31:35to His servant, and has not assigned to it any crookedness.
31:42He has made it rightly directing, that it may warn the disbelievers of a severe calamity
31:48coming from Him, and that it may give good tidings to the believers who do deeds of righteousness,
31:55that there awaits them a place of goodly reward, wherein they shall stay for ever.
32:02And that it may warn those who say, Allah has begotten a son.
32:08This is absolutely wrong.
32:11They have no real knowledge of Him, nor had their fathers.
32:15Grievous is the word that comes out of their mouths.
32:19They speak naught but a lie.
32:23Will you worry yourself to death sorrowing after them, if they do not believe in this
32:30great discourse?
32:32Verily, we have made all that is on the earth as an embellishment for it, that we may try
32:39them as to which of them is the most excellent in respect of performing the noblest deeds.
32:46Yet, it is we who shall one day reduce all that is on it to a barren soil.
32:54Do you think that the people of the Place of Refuge and of the Inscriptions were a wonder
33:01among our signs?
33:04Recall the time when the young men betook themselves to the Place of Refuge and said
33:09in prayer,
33:10Our Lord, grant us mercy from Yourself, and provide us right course in our affair, setting
33:18all things right for us.
33:21So we sealed up their ears to cut them off from the outside world, in their place of
33:26refuge, for only a number of years.
33:30Then we raised them up for making certain efforts that we might distinguish as to which
33:35of the two groups had made better use of the time they had stayed there according to its
33:39rightful requirement.
33:42We relate to you their true story.
33:45They were a few young men who believed in their Lord, and whom we had led from guidance
33:50to guidance.
33:52And we strengthened their hearts when they stood up in the cause of God, and said,
33:57Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth.
34:00Never shall we call upon any God apart from Him, for in that case we would certainly be
34:07uttering a preposterous thing far from the truth.
34:11These people of ours have taken to them for worship other gods apart from Him.
34:17Why do they not bring any clear proof and authority in support of their belief?
34:22In fact they have no such proof.
34:24Who can be more unjust than the person who forges a lie against Allah?
34:31They said one to another, So now when you have left them, and that which they worship
34:38apart from Allah, you should take shelter in the place of refuge.
34:43If you do so, your Lord will extend to you His mercy, and will provide some ease for
34:49you in this affair of yours.
34:52And, O people, you could see the sun when it rose, inclining to the right of their spacious
34:59place of refuge, and when it set declining to their left.
35:03While they were in the open space of this refuge of theirs, this was one of the signs
35:08of Allah.
35:11He alone is rightly guided whom Allah guides.
35:15As for the person whom He forsakes, you will find no helper nor guide for him.
35:23You might think them weary, while they are dormant and asleep.
35:27We shall make them turn over now to the right, and then to the left, while their dog is present
35:34with them, stretching its paws forward on the threshold in the courtyard.
35:40If you had become aware of their true state, you would have turned back from them in fright,
35:45and you would have surely been filled with great awe of them.
35:50And just as we made them dormant, we raised them to life from the state of lethargy, so
35:57that they questioned one another.
35:59One of them asked, How long have you remained dormant?
36:04Some of them said, We have remained in this state of inactivity a day or a part of a day.
36:12Others said, Only your Lord knows best the time you have remained so.
36:18Now send one of you with the silver coins of yours to the city.
36:22He should see which of its inhabitants has the best and purest food, and let him bring
36:29you provisions from it.
36:31And let him be courteous, and let him not at all apprise anyone about you.
36:37For if they come to know of you, they will condemn you, or make you revert to their faith
36:43by force, and in that case, that you revert to their faith, you will never attain your
36:50goal and prosper ever.
36:53That is how we let other people know about them, their intentions and the real state
36:58of their affairs.
36:59That people might know that the promise of Allah is true, and that as to the coming of
37:04the promised hour, there is no doubt about it.
37:08And recall the time when the people that followed argued among themselves about their affairs
37:14and they said, Build a monument over them.
37:18Their Lord knows them best.
37:20Those of them who won their point said, We will certainly build a mosque over them.
37:27Guessing at random about them, some said, They were three, their dog being the fourth.
37:34While others say, They were five, and their dog being the sixth.
37:40Yet there are others who say, They were seven, and their dog being the eighth.
37:47Say, My Lord knows best their real number.
37:52None knows them except a few.
37:55So do not argue about them, save with arguing on known premise, which is overpowering and
38:02seek no legal order concerning them from any one of them, from those who make random guesses.
38:10And never say of anything, I am going to do it tomorrow, unless you add to it, God willing.
38:19And remember your Lord whenever you forget and make a mistake.
38:23And say, I hope my Lord will guide me to a course even shorter than this to the right
38:29path, leading to success.
38:32And they, the early Christians, stayed in this place of refuge three hundred years and
38:38extended their stay another nine years.
38:41Say, Allah knows best how long they stayed.
38:46To Him belong the hidden realities in the heavens and the earth.
38:51How clear He sees and how well He hears.
38:55They have no helper beside Him.
38:57He lets none associate with Him and share His judgment.
39:03And recite to these people what is revealed to you of the commandment of your Lord.
39:09There is none who can change His words and you will find no refuge apart from Him.
39:16And keep yourself attached to those who call upon their Lord morning and evening, constantly
39:22seeking His pleasure.
39:24And do not let your eyes turn away from them to pursue the glamour of the present life
39:29and do not follow Him whose heart we have declared unmindful of our remembrance, who
39:35follows His evil inclinations and whose affair exceeds all legitimate limits.
39:42And say, it is the truth from your Lord.
39:46Therefore, let him who wishes it believe in it and let him who wishes otherwise disbelieve
39:54in it.
39:55But let everyone remember, we have prepared for the unjust a fire whose flaming enclosure
40:02will surround and fumes envelop them.
40:06If they cry for water, they shall be helped with water, boiling like molten lead, which
40:14will scald their faces.
40:16How dreadful the drink and how dismal is the fire as a resting place.
40:22But those who believe and do deeds of righteousness should know that we certainly do not suffer
40:30the reward of those who do good deeds to be lost.
40:35It is these for whom they await the gardens of eternity, served with running streams to
40:41keep them green and flourishing.
40:43There they shall be adorned with bracelets of gold and wear green robes of fine silk
40:50and rich brocade.
40:52They will be reclining in these gardens upon raised couches.
40:57How excellent the reward and how beautiful the resting place.
41:04And relate to these opponents of yours the parable and description of the conditions
41:10of two men.
41:11We had provided to one of them two vine gardens which we fenced with date palms and we placed
41:17cornfields between the two.
41:19Each of the two gardens brought forth its fruit in abundance, failing not the least
41:26in them, and we had made a stream to flow as well in between the two.
41:31Thus he, the owner, had an abundance of fruit and substances of diverse kinds.
41:38So he said to his companion, the other man, while he was arguing boastfully and vainly
41:45with him,
41:46I am richer than you in wealth and mightier in respect of manpower.
41:51And it so happened that he entered his garden while he was unjust to his own soul.
41:57He said to his companion, I do not think that this wealth will ever perish.
42:04And I do not think that the promised hour of resurrection will ever come.
42:10But if I am ever made to return to my lord, I will certainly find there an even better
42:17resort than this.
42:19His companion said to him, while he was arguing with him, Do you disbelieve in him who created
42:26you first from dust and then from a sperm drop?
42:30Then he fashioned you into a perfect man?
42:34But as for myself, I believe that he, Allah, alone is my lord, and I will associate none
42:41with my lord.
42:43And why did you not say when you entered your garden, only that which Allah wills comes
42:48to pass?
42:49For power belongs only to Allah, though you see me inferior to yourself in riches and
42:55children.
42:57There is every hope that my lord will give me a garden better than yours, and he may
43:03visit this garden of yours with thunderbolts from above, so that it is turned into a barren
43:10waste.
43:11Or its water may be drained into the earth, so that you will not be able to find it.
43:18Now it came to pass that his fruit and substance was utterly destroyed, and while it lay toppled
43:27over on its trellises, he began to wring his hands on account of what he had spent on it,
43:35and said, would that I had associated none with my lord.
43:42But then there was no party left to defend him against Allah, nor could he defend himself,
43:48for it was Allah alone who could help him.
43:52At such a time it is thus established that protection belongs only to Allah, and help
44:01comes from him alone, the true god.
44:04He is the best in respect of rewarding, and the best in respect of bringing about good
44:10results.
44:12And give them the similitude of the life of this world.
44:16It is like water which we send down from the clouds, so the vegetation and plants of the
44:22earth flourish with it, and then it turns into chaff which the winds scatter about.
44:29Behold, Allah is the holder of all power over what he will.
44:35Wealth and children are an adornment of the life of this world, but with regard to immediate
44:41reward, ever abiding righteous deeds are the best in the sight of your lord.
44:46They also promise the best hope in respect of the future.
44:51And beware of the day when we shall set the mountains in motion, and make them vanish.
44:58And you shall find the nations of the earth march forth against one another, and we shall
45:04gather all peoples together, and we shall leave none of them behind.
45:09And they shall be presented before your lord, raised in robes.
45:14And it will be said to them, Now certainly you have come to us no better than we created
45:21you the first time.
45:23But you had thought that we would appoint for you no time for the fulfilment of our
45:28promise.
45:30And on that day the record of their deeds will be exhibited before them, and you will
45:36see those who cut off their ties with Allah fearful as to that which is recorded in it.
45:42They will say, Woe to us!
45:46What sort of record is this?
45:49It leaves out neither a small thing nor a great one, but has recounted everything.
45:57And they will find all that they did confronting them, and your lord does injustice to no one
46:03ever.
46:06And recall the time when we said to the angels, Submit to Adam.
46:11So they all submitted, bowing.
46:14But Iblis did not.
46:18He was one of the jinn.
46:20He disobeyed the command of his lord.
46:23People, would you then take him and his progeny, and cohorts, for friends, rather than me,
46:32while they are your enemies?
46:35How evil is the substitute the unjust have chosen!
46:40I did not call them to make them witness, and to help at the time of the creation of
46:46the heavens and the earth, nor at the time of their own creation.
46:51I would never take those who lead others astray for my helpers.
46:57And beware of the day when he will say, Call on my so-called partners about whom you had
47:04many pretensions.
47:06Thereupon they will call on them, but they will give them no answer, and we shall make
47:12their association with them a cause of their prediction.
47:17And those who cut off their ties with Allah will see the fire, and realize that they are
47:24going to fall into it, and they shall find no way of escape from it.
47:33And we have explained in various ways in this Quran every kind of excellent thing for the
47:39good of the people.
47:41But of all things human being is the most contentious.
47:46Unless the precedence of the ancients should be repeated in their case, or the punishment
47:51should stare them in the face, there is nothing to hinder people from believing in the guidance
47:57when it comes to them, and from seeking protection and pardon from their Lord.
48:03And we send no apostles but as bearers of good tidings to the obedient on the one hand,
48:10and as warners to the disobedient on the other.
48:14And those who disbelieve contend by means of falsehood that they may refute the truth
48:20thereby.
48:21And they scoff at my commandments and the punishment of which they had been warned.
48:27And who is more unjust than he who is reminded of the messages of his Lord, but he turns
48:34away from them, and forgets what he has forwarded with his own hands to be stored.
48:40In fact, we have placed veils upon their hearts, which prevent them from understanding it,
48:47and in their ears is created heaviness, so that they have turned deaf.
48:53You call them to the right path as you may.
48:57They will never follow the right course and accept guidance.
49:04Our Lord is all-protecting, full of mercy.
49:07If he were to take them to task for all that they have done, he would certainly have hastened
49:13for them the punishment.
49:15Yet there is a time appointed for them.
49:18They will never find an escape from it.
49:21And these are townships of the people committed to punishment.
49:26We destroyed them when they committed inequities and wrong, and we appointed a fixed time for
49:33destruction.
49:35And recall the time when Moses said to his sincere young comrade,
49:40I will not stop till I reach the confluence of the two rivers, the Niles at Khartoum,
49:47even if I must have to go on journeying for years.
49:51But when they reached the confluence where the two rivers met, they forgot all about
49:57their fish, which they had brought with them, so that it took its way straight into the
50:02river, burrowing into it.
50:06And when they had gone further, he said to his sincere young comrade,
50:10Bring us our breakfast.
50:12Indeed, the journey of today has been very tiring for us.
50:18He, the young comrade, replied,
50:21Did you see what happened when we betook ourselves to the rock for shelter?
50:26I forgot all about the fish.
50:29And none but Satan made me forget to mention this to you.
50:32And behold, it made its way into the river.
50:36What a wonder that I should thus forget.
50:40Moses said,
50:41That is the place which we have been seeking.
50:45So both of them returned, retracing their steps.
50:49So that they found a noble and great servant of ours, to whom we had granted mercy from us,
50:55and whom we had taught great knowledge from ourselves.
50:59Moses said to him,
51:01May I follow you so that you may teach me some of the ways of rectitude which you have been taught?
51:07He, the great man, said,
51:10Yes, but while keeping company with me,
51:14you will never be able to bear and keep company with me in patience.
51:20And how can you have patience about things the knowledge of which you do not comprehend?
51:25Moses said,
51:27You will find me patient, God willing, and I shall not disobey you in any manner.
51:35He, the great man, said,
51:38Well, if you would follow me, mind that you shall ask me no question about anything,
51:44unless I myself broach the subject to you.
51:48So both of them set out, until when they embarked in a boat, he scuttled it.
51:54Thereupon Moses said,
51:57Have you scuttled it, that you may drown its occupants?
52:01It is indeed a strangely grievous thing you have done.
52:05He replied,
52:07Did I not say that you would not be able to bear with me and keep company with me patiently?
52:12Moses said,
52:15Do not take me to task for what I forgot.
52:18Do not be too hard on me for this lapse of mine.
52:22Then they both set out again, till when they met a boy, he, the great man, slew him.
52:28At this Moses said,
52:31Why have you slain an innocent person without his having slain anyone?
52:35Most certainly it is a strangely wondrous act you have committed.
