00:27Tsunamis are more likely to occur in certain places than they are in other places.

00:38The red area shows where there is a greater risk of tsunamis,
00:42and the gray area shows where there is a smaller risk.
00:46And the most tsunamis occur in a specific part of the Pacific Ocean called the Ring of Fire.

03:54And in really deep water, tsunamis barely cause waves bigger than 3 feet.

04:04Well, tsunamis can travel at speeds up to 500 miles per hour.
04:08If I ever travel, I want to go to that one island, you know, where all the cats live.

05:49but how about how a tsunami actually occurs?
05:52Oh, I can answer that. Here, check this out.
05:56Well, like I said before, tsunamis are caused by lots of stuff,
06:00but the thing that causes the most of them is earthquakes,
06:03so let's focus on that.
06:05So first, an earthquake happens underwater,
06:08and when the tectonic plates shift against each other,
06:11a ton of energy is created.
06:14This sends a bunch of energy towards the surface of the water.
06:18This causes the water to move and the sea level to rise.
06:22When this happens, gravity is pulling it back down,
06:26and this makes the water spread horizontally.
06:29This gives birth to a tsunami.
06:31What's weird is I said give birth to a tsunami,
06:34but that sounds like I had a little baby tsunami boy,
06:37and that didn't happen, so I didn't want to, like, mislead you.
