Prime minister Sir Keir Starmer held an emergency Cobra meeting on Monday morning after large groups of people set fire to hotels housing asylum seekers in Rotherham and Tamworth. Addressing the details of the meeting, Mr Starmer said: "We will have a standing army of specialist officers, so we will have enough officers to deal with this where we need them."

00:00There are a number of actions that came out of the meeting, the first is we will have
00:03a standing army of specialist officers, public duty officers, so that we'll have enough
00:11officers to deal with this where we need them.
00:15The second is we'll ramp up criminal justice, there have already been hundreds of arrests,
00:21some have appeared in court this morning, I have asked for early consideration of the
00:26earliest naming and identification of those involved in the process, who will feel the
00:31full force of the law, and thirdly I've been absolutely clear that the criminal law applies
00:37online as well as offline, and I'm assured that that's the approach that is being taken.
00:44Whatever the apparent motivation, this is not protest, it is pure violence, and we will
00:51not tolerate attacks on mosques or our Muslim communities, so the full force of the law
00:58will be visited on all those who are identified as having taken part in these activities.
