00:00A rare little Woo Sox play-by-play action there.
00:02That was Tristan Kassas in his rehab assignment with Worcester over the weekend.
00:08A lot of Red Sox fans wondering how Tristan Kassas is feeling,
00:11when they can expect him back with the Major League team.
00:15Well, Tristan Kassas is giving conflicting reports
00:19about how Tristan Kassas is feeling.
00:21And I say it that way because he strikes me as the kind of guy
00:23who I wouldn't be surprised in two years
00:25if he starts referring to himself in the third person.
00:27Oh, definitely.
00:28Surprised he hasn't already?
00:29Yeah, maybe we're not listening close enough.
00:32I bet he has.
00:33So this is from MassLive's Sean McAdam over the weekend.
00:37He writes,
00:38On Friday, first baseman Tristan Kassas gave two contradictory updates
00:42about how he was feeling as he rehabbed a rib cage injury
00:47that has sidelined him since late April.
00:50Kassas and Worcester told MassLive's Chris Catillo,
00:52so that's Sean McAdam, one of his beat partners,
00:56that he wasn't feeling any discomfort when he swung.
00:59But then he goes and tells Nesson's Laura Stickles,
01:04I think this might be a WUSOX, a AAA-level sideline reporter.
01:08He tells her,
01:09Quote,
01:10It feels like someone's stabbing me with a knife in the ribs
01:14when he made contact.
01:16So I think that might have been the same day
01:18if not just 24 hours apart.
01:20Hey, Catillo, I'm feeling fine.
01:23No discomfort.
01:24And then turns around and tells the Nesson reporter,
01:26It feels like I'm getting stabbed.
01:28So McAdam writes,
01:30This confused the Red Sox and it seems angered them somewhat.
01:34Eventually, through additional conversations,
01:36they got a better understanding,
01:37but this isn't the first time Kassas rankled the club
01:40with some comments.
01:42This is what manager Alex Corris said,
01:44Whatever it is, sometimes I read stuff and I'm like,
01:47are we on the same page here?
01:49I'm the messenger for the club.
01:51Sometimes I BS people or take care of certain of things
01:54a certain way,
01:55but I'm very accountable in what I try to say.
01:58That one caught me off guard.
02:00I talked to head trainer Brandon Henry and said,
02:03where are we at?
02:04He had a good conversation with Tristan.
02:06He's fine.
02:07Obviously, he will feel it,
02:09but it's not like what he was feeling before he went on
02:12the IL.
02:13The progress has been great.
02:15He feels like he's progressing the right way.
02:16You've seen him for a month and a half moving around
02:19and taking grounders.
02:20It's all fun and games to a certain point.
02:22When I get messages asking me,
02:24and this is Cora,
02:25are you guys taking care of this kid?
02:27I think we're doing everything the right way.
02:29We talked to him.
02:31Hopefully, that's the end of knives.
02:34Stop being a jackass.
02:35Let me summarize those comments, Tristan.
02:37Stop being a jackass.
02:38You're annoying fans.
02:39You're annoying your manager.
02:41You're probably annoying teammates.
02:42You're certainly, I'm sure, annoying medical staff that
02:46clearly Cora's getting texts where people are questioning.
02:49Are you taking care of this kid?
02:50Are you ruining his career by forcing him out there
02:52when he has knives being jabbed in him?
02:54And we've seen this before.
02:56Pacers in four.
02:57He likes to F around, but this time he found out
02:59it was a dumb thing to do.
03:00It wasn't the right situation.
03:01He doesn't get it.
03:03He's very immature, it seems.
03:04And that's the frustrating thing, too,
03:05because last year, he plays 132 games since 24 home runs.
03:09This year, before he got hurt, he was sitting 286 in April.
03:12He's a really good player at a key position.
03:14How old is he?
03:1524.
03:16That's too old to be.
03:18I was about to say that's quite young.
03:20No, you're 24.
03:21I don't know.
03:22Younger than us.
03:23I think men can't stop being jackasses until around
03:2727.
03:27How about the Sunday night baseball story?
03:29When he was like, oh, yeah, my dad got arrested at the
03:32Little League.
03:32Like you, at some point, all these little things, though,
03:36add up.
03:37Right, right.
03:37He came out after that story and said that might have been
03:40a little tongue-in-cheek as well.
03:41Like, oh, there's a shock for the camera.
03:42There's a shock.
03:43Like, stop being a jackass.
03:45Just hit the baseball.
03:46Again, everybody has their idiosyncrasies.
03:48Andy Kaufman was a comedian and an actor.
03:49And you're a baseball player.
03:52It adds up.
03:52And nobody gets what you're doing.
03:54Right.
03:54That's the other thing.
03:55I think if he's trying to be cute, Casas, it's not going
03:59over people's heads to the point that it makes your training
04:02staff look bad and people are texting the manager saying
04:06what the hell is going on with Tristan Casas?
04:08Why would you have him out there if he feels like he's
04:10getting stabbed by a million knives?
04:12But how did he not know?
04:13Like, how dumb is he?
04:15Like, this is a really dumb thing to do.
04:16That's a question for Rob Bradley.
04:17But you know, you're talking to multiple reporters.
04:21And if you said, you know, people care about your health,
04:24you know, you're kind of a big deal, right?
04:26People are looking toward you as a potential late-season
04:29impact. Cornerstone of the franchise future, potentially.
04:32So you don't think, especially in this world, you don't
04:36think this is going to get to a lot of ears and eyeballs.
04:39And some of them will just laugh it off.
04:41But some of them won't.
04:42And it's going to cause a problem for your boss.
04:45And it causes a problem for so many levels of the organization.
04:48Like, Megha, you alluded to it, like the training staff
04:51makes them look bad, puts Cora in an awkward spot, puts
04:53his Red Sox teammates in awkward spot.
04:55But what about all those guys playing in Worcester, trying
04:58to make the Major Leagues?
04:59Now they have this little distraction in their locker room.
05:01They have to answer questions about that.
05:02Like, it puts every person in the organization, or every
05:05level, just it puts them in a bad spot.
05:08Yeah.
05:08Like, what do you, and again, he's a good player, but what
05:11are you, like, what are you doing?
05:12617-779-7937.
05:15If you want to weigh in on what Cora should do with Tristan
05:19Kassus when he comes back up to the Major Leagues.
