00:23Here with Mr. President on the go.
00:25First, fellow countrymen, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has issued an Executive Order to increase the salary and to give additional allowance to the workers working in the Administration.
00:39Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin gave the Executive Order No. 64 to the President on August 2.
00:47The Executive Order was signed by the Palacio after it was published in the Official Gazette or in a widely circulated newspaper.
00:56The workers of the Administration will also receive Php 7,000 worth of medical allowance each year starting next year.
01:07According to President R. Marcos Jr., due to the economic situation, as well as the weakening of purchasing power and inflation, there is a need to update the salaries and benefits of the people of the Government
01:20to maintain the productivity of the employees who have experience in the public service.
01:26The Department of Budget and Management, Secretary Amena Pangandama, also ordered the immediate issuance of guidelines for the high salaries of the government workers.
01:36According to the government, Php 36 billion from the Miscellaneous Personal Benefits Fund under the 2024 General Appropriations Act will be allocated to implement the first tranche of the salary increase.
01:50According to the Executive Order, the last increase in the salaries of the government workers will be in 2023 when the fourth and last tranche of the new salary schedule will expire under the Salary Standardization Law of 2019.
02:06This will have a retroactive effect on the government workers because the first tranche will be effective on January 1, 2024 and the second tranche will be effective on January 1, 2025 as well.
02:19The third tranche will be effective on January 1, 2026 and the fourth tranche will be effective on January 1, 2027.
02:25So, it means that from January, February, and March, they will receive the salary increase this year.
02:30So, congratulations to all the government workers.
02:34Through this, I hope that the Executive Order will continue to maintain the productivity of the public service.
02:42Meanwhile, fellow countrymen, our President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. approved the outtaking of the Association of Philippine Journalists under the Mahang Claridel Foundation, Inc.
02:53Our President knows that the media is helping a lot to fight the fake news.
03:01Here, the President is asking for support and help to let our countrymen know what is the fake news and what is the legitimate news.
03:12So, fellow countrymen, because of the new technology, it is challenging for all of us to provide the correct information on why cooperation is needed from everyone.
03:23President Marcos, Jr. is hoping that the media will continue to give their dedication to responsible, ethical, and fair reporting.
03:33While the President assured that the government will do everything to create a truly free and safe environment for all the media under the new Philippines.
03:44The APJ was established by veteran journalists under the Mahang Claridel Foundation.
03:51It is co-founded by media practitioners and communication specialists.
03:55The Association of Philippine Journalists under the Mahang Claridel Foundation protects the freedom of expression, dignity, and profession of journalists.
04:02Friendship, cooperation, and understanding among journalists are strengthened.
04:08As you know, we live in a time where social media is unregulated, fake news is rampant, and AI is already there.
04:15It is easy to make videos that you think are fake news, but they are not.
04:21There are victims, so we have to empower every individual so that they can see what is the truth and what is fake news.
04:32We all have to be careful.
04:34For example, when an executive order was issued by Malacanang, it was edited and the header of the memo and the signature of the President remain.
04:48Others easily believe in such things.
04:51So before we believe, we should check the official websites of the government.
04:57It is a collective effort to fight fake news.
05:00There are efforts of the government, journalists, and even us, every Filipino.
05:05We need to empower ourselves with information on how to combat fake news.
05:11That's all for this morning's update.
