Hungary's bottle recycling system clogs up as it struggles to meet EU green target

The central European country has yet to reach the EU target of nearly 6.5 million recycled bottles per day by 2025.

00:00The whole Hungarian recycling system has to be reorganized, following overflowing bins,
00:07long queues and many, many disappointed consumers, who should be refunded 13 cents for each empty
00:14drink container returned. As 3.5 million bottles are thrown into the machines every day, which
00:20is far more than the designed capacity. While the company Mohumol has admitted to the problem,
00:26their customers are unsatisfied.
00:44Other problems include the machine not recognizing bottles or the return app failing to scan.
00:50Vendors must regularly empty the machines, the manufacturer handles failure and Mohu
00:55is blamed for the lack of repoints nationwide. Mohu said they are planning to revamp the system.
