00:00The Dodgers and the Phillies, the opening game of a three-game midweek set last night
00:08at the Ravine.
00:09Tyler Glass now versus Aaron Nola.
00:11It was Glass now getting the better of Nola.
00:13It was the Dodgers getting the better of the Phillies.
00:16Donnie, it's been a similar story for Philadelphia.
00:19Despite this 5-3 defeat, they took an early 2-0 lead.
00:24The Dodgers rallied in the third inning, including a two-run shot out of Teoscar Hernandez
00:30that gave the Dodgers the lead for good.
00:32The Phillies made it interesting.
00:34Shohei Ohtani added a home run in the eighth for that insurance and the separation.
00:40As you saw, a 5-3 win in favor of Los Angeles.
00:44They were a minus-134 Moneyline favorite when we showed you the odds yesterday in the morning
00:49hours.
00:50The over-under was eight.
00:52It closed later in the show at seven-and-a-half, so it does trickle over.
00:57So the Dodgers take game one of the set against Philadelphia.
01:02And now as the Phillies continue this slide since the All-Star break, and really the series
01:07sweep over L.A. in the final week, entering the All-Star break in the middle of July,
01:12the Dodgers have closed to just a half-game behind the Phillies for the best record in
01:17the National League.
01:19The Phillies closed as an underdog in this game, but they didn't have an underdog pitcher
01:23here technically on the mound in Aaron Nola.
01:25When you get a two-to-nothing lead in a playoff atmosphere, understand it's on the road and
01:28the Dodgers are a quality team.
01:30You gotta win that.
01:31Or at least you gotta go six innings, pitch two earned runs, and still have the lead when
01:33you leave that game.
01:34And if the bullpen blows it, so be it.
01:36Because you do look at that Dodgers lineup.
01:38Yes, it's talented, but be honest with ourselves.
01:40Shohei Ohtani's hitting .309.
01:42The only guy in that offense that's hitting over .300.
01:44The next guy closest to him is Freddie Freeman, who just came back after an extended layoff
01:48and went one for four with two Ks.
01:49Toska Hernandez, love the guy.
01:50He's only hitting .267.
01:51Will Smith, .249.
01:52Lux, .245.
01:53Hernandez, .211.
01:54Hayward, .209.
01:55Pajas, .241.
01:56Nick Ahmed, .233.
01:57It's not, you know, the 1923 Yankees out here that are hitting .300 with 50 home runs
02:04on each guy.
02:05So when you get a two-to-nothing lead, it's up to you as a high-paid pitcher.
02:08It's not Aaron Nola, hey, man, at the end of his career, he's making $3 million.
02:11No, he's one of the highest-paid pitchers in baseball.
02:13You get a two-to-nothing lead, you have to stand on business here.
02:16You know who stood on business on Sunday afternoon?
02:18Hey, look, the sky is falling.
02:20Zach Wheeler, eight-innings pitch, no earned runs in a hostile environment in Seattle.
02:24That's what you're supposed to do.
02:25Two-to-nothing lead, hold that lead.
02:27That's your job.
02:28Phillies couldn't do that.
02:29Credit the Dodgers for winning that game, but again, you can't say to yourself, well,
02:32what do you want the Phillies to do, lose two out of three games here?
02:34That's what they're supposed to do.
02:35No, nonsense.
02:36When Aaron Nola's on the mound, that's an expected victory for the Philadelphia Phillies.
02:39And with a two-to-nothing lead, yeah, that's a blown game.
02:46That's what you're supposed to do.
02:47That's what you're supposed to do.
02:48That's what you're supposed to do.
