00:00A former member of the Communist Party of the Philippines, a former alumni of the University of the Philippines,

00:05faced the Senate.

00:08He said that he was with him when he recruited students in UP.

00:12The young party list representative, Raul Manuel, was appointed as a congressman.

00:17Jonathan Andal has the first news.

00:20In the Senate, Sabelliano's wife called to find their missing son, 22 years old, a student of UP Los Baños who was brought to Cavite to be a member of the NPA or New People's Army.

00:49According to the PNP, almost 200 students have been recruited by the CPP-NPA since 2014 until now.

00:56The police also targeted some schools that have the most students who were recruited by the CPP-NPA,

01:02including some state universities such as the University of the Philippines and some high schools.

01:08A former member of the CPP and an alumni of UP also faced the Senate.

01:14He said that UP Diliman itself is recruiting students for the CPP-NPA through the accredited student organizations of the university.

01:24The Communist Party of the Philippines ordered me to run for student council so that I can recruit the next freshmen.

01:31We collected support from students that we will send to the NPAs.

01:36And that's happening inside the universities.

01:40He said that he will join the recruitment of the current youth party's representative Raul Manuel.

01:45In 2017, we will recruit him as a student regent and me as an ally of UP Diliman.

01:52While he's a student regent, he's recruiting young people to be NPAs?

01:57Yes sir. That's his tasking as a member of the Communist Party.

02:01Manuel denied this.

02:02It's not true that we are recruiting for those organizations.

02:07If there are people joining there, it's their individual choice.

02:11If we are recruiting, we are really recruiting for the youth party list to be volunteers, interns, and our members.

02:18He said that the leadership of UP does not know that there is recruitment inside their campus.

02:23We will have to do a review of our current guidelines on student accreditation.

02:29And the way they conduct their activities.

02:33In a statement, UP Diliman University Student Council condemned the malicious red-tagging of students and organizations in their universities.

02:42Their challenge to the UP administration is to protect the academic freedom and right to organize of students.
