00:11animal cruelty.
00:12In 2016, the former Premier announced greyhound racing would be banned in NSW due to animal
00:20welfare concerns.
00:21This is not an economic decision, it's not a revenue decision, this is an animal welfare
00:27decision.
00:28Three months later he backflipped on the decision, instead calling on the industry to clean up
00:33its act.
00:34But they have also said, why did you not give the industry one last chance?
00:43In hindsight, as we reflect on this, we got it wrong.
00:48The sport and gambling practice remains legal and some industry officials claim animal welfare
00:54has improved.
00:56Fresh concerns have been raised by the former chief vet of greyhound racing NSW, who alleged
01:02dogs are being raced at barbaric intensity, with some locked in metal cages.
01:09Hours after the veterinary handover report was made public, it was then withdrawn, and
01:15the head of greyhound racing NSW, Rob McCauley, resigned.
01:20The NSW government has promised an independent inquiry into greyhound racing, with
