00:00The story of Pulang Araw was made right after the first historical drama series of GMA, Amaya.
00:15In the first month of 2012, I made the concept of Pulang Araw.
00:20We were talking with Suzy Noctolero, and she told me that she wanted to make a project.
00:26She had been thinking of a project for a long time.
00:29And the timing was good because what Suzy wanted to discuss was the cultural factor of the war.
00:35Particularly, Wodeville, theater shows, artists, and the propaganda of the Japanese at that time.
00:41So I said, let's try to work it out.
00:44As I was working on it, GMA approved it right away.
00:48It was only in 2012, and they saw that it was good on TV.
00:55At that time, we hadn't mastered CGI yet.
00:59And the production of Pulang Araw was very expensive.
01:02In 2023, they suddenly said that it was time to produce Pulang Araw.
01:09So it took almost 12-13 years.
01:13What I remember from the very start of brainstorming,
01:17we always insisted on the meeting that the show should always be about love.
01:22Love for the country, love for the family,
01:25love for those we love, love for the theater, love for ourselves.
01:29We wanted to show that in the midst of war,
01:33all kinds of adversities should always be overcome and love will win.
01:39Pulang Araw is not about a well-known hero.
01:43Pulang Araw is about the old heroes,
01:46the nameless heroes who fought for the country.
01:53We all know them because they are our grandparents, our parents.
01:58All Filipinos have grandparents who went through wars,
02:03became victims, became heroes, and fought for the freedom of the Philippines.
02:08And they went through a lot back then.
02:11And for them to just keep on living, even after that,
02:14even if they probably would have wanted to call it quits,
02:18because we can see how difficult that is.
02:20You went through a lot for several years.
02:23I'm sure they have PTSD.
02:25This can't be just a personal journey for me.
02:27This should be for, at least for the whole team.
02:30And we want to be able to share that with the audience.
02:33Pulang Araw is a true story of every Filipino,
02:37a story of all Filipinos.
02:40It's a Filipino story because it's the real Filipino story.
02:43I don't want their stories to die with them.
02:46We may forget our heroes, but I want us to remember
02:50the stories of our heroes
02:52because that tells you who we are as a race.
03:20That's why our commitment is so strong.
03:24That's why it's so small that we can do one thing
03:27that we want to do so we can become a hero.
03:30This is just my vision.
03:31This is my payback.
03:32I don't want to be recognized.
03:34I think the heroes should be recognized.
03:38I think we should watch it because it's a very, very good show.
03:41Its topic is very relevant.
03:44It's very important in this day and age.
03:45Its story affects you.
03:48It really moves you.
03:49You will see that our history is personalized.
03:53It's a story about a mother, a father, a brother, and a lover.
03:58It reminds us that no matter what happens,
04:02we are still Filipinos.
04:04And the show makes you feel proud that we are Filipinos.
04:07That during the Japanese occupation, we did this.
04:10We united.
04:11We fought.
04:12We fought for our Filipino identity.
