00:15Denise.
00:16We are celebrating the 57th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN here in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
00:26The Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia, Maria Angela Ponce, gave the importance of peace and security and socio-economic development to President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar bin Ibrahim.
00:39According to Ponce, one of the priorities is to promote the philippine's halal-friendliness with the help of Malaysia.
00:47Malaysia is a trailblazer in the halal industry.
00:52And we very much want to learn from them, get their best practices.
00:56So the halal industry, it comes not just on food and on agriculture, but also on tourism cooperation, strengthening that so that then we can also be able to attract the, what you say, halal tourism.
01:13Now, 2024 is not just the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Malaysia.
01:22It is also the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Permanent Mission of the Philippines in ASEAN.
01:28There was a dinner gala last night at the headquarters of ASEAN in Jakarta, Indonesia,
01:32which was attended by the Permanent Representative of the Philippines to ASEAN, Ambassador Jaisalyn Quintana last night for this.
01:39According to ASEAN Secretary General Dr. Kau Kim Horn, the role of the Philippines is important in the efforts in ASEAN community building efforts
01:46and gives the country's continued leadership in upholding the unity of ASEAN.
01:52Meanwhile, Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Muhammad bin Haji Alamin gave the importance of tourism through ASEAN members
02:01because it is a solid foundation for a diverse, strong, and more resilient ASEAN community.
02:08In ASEAN, we also promote interaction between our peoples through various areas,
02:15including in culture, youth, education, and sports.
02:21As a reflection to this, today, we will be celebrating our region's cultural diversity through colorful performances and critiques.
02:32According to the Philippine Embassy, they support the initiatives of Malaysia.
02:37We learn a lot from what Malaysia will be doing and what ASEAN will be accomplishing over its next year when Malaysia takes over the chairship.
02:46As you see for this anniversary now, the theme is connectivity and resilience.
02:51And that will continue, I think.
02:53That's a running thread through ASEAN right now that we will build on when we take over the chairship in 2026.
03:02Peace, stability, and security are not the only goals that ASEAN nations protect.
03:07They are also committed to uniting nations in other goals, such as sustainable development and digital transformation.
03:15ASEAN Day also embodies the collective commitment of the region to unity and unity,
03:20which again strengthens the connections that connect Southeast Asia to a dynamic and ever-changing global scene.
