A dream home with a gorgeous garden in a prime Yorkshire village
Transcript
00:00We lived in the house for a year before we renovated it and I would advise anybody who
00:08buys the house to do the same with the garden especially because you need to see what comes
00:12up before you start messing around with it because it is absolutely beautiful but everyone
00:17has their own taste but we brought up our children in a farmhouse just outside the village
00:22so we've been in the village really for over 30 years.
00:25We moved here because we wanted to be in civilisation really because we had to get
00:29in the car for everything there so the remit was a bus stop, a pub which provided food
00:36and a shop so this property came up and it was linked to the cottage next door and we
00:42bought them both and set about renovating them.
00:45The house itself and everybody who visits it has said the same thing, it has the most
00:50welcoming feel to it even before it was renovated because some old houses can give you the heebie
00:56jeebies sometimes can't they and this one is just so friendly and of course the garden
01:00is just stunning, you couldn't replace this, you couldn't look for donkeys ears and never
01:05find a garden like this.
01:07Anybody who is a gardener by nature probably spends more time leaning on their spade than
01:12they do doing anything else and just thinking of what you want to plant and how you want
01:17it to look.
01:18But I think what I enjoy most about this garden is that there is something for you to look
01:23at, to marvel at, to enjoy through every stage of the year, every stage of the year, it's
01:30wonderful.
01:31Well at Christmas time you've got the holly and then you've got snowdrops and then you've
01:35got the hyacinths and the aconites, there's a whole load of aconites that grow here and
01:42do you know the legend of aconites?
01:45Aconites will only grow, they say, where the Roman legion has trodden.
01:49Well the kitchen was quite an awkward space because it's got two windows and I wanted
01:54to keep the range, the old range.
01:57I did have one kitchen planner came and said that you should rip it up and put it somewhere
02:01else and put the thing underneath the window overlooking our neighbour's property and I
02:04thought that's ridiculous.
02:06But I spent a long time trying to work out the best layout.
02:11I was a professional cook for a while so I wanted a kitchen where everything was in
02:16reach which ergonomically worked and that's the best I could come up with the space that
02:23we had.
02:24Well we were quite selfish with the bedroom because it did have a range of wardrobes in
02:29beforehand and we chose to use the second bedroom as a dressing room because it's only
02:34ourselves.
02:35So we're here alone largely and the same with the bathroom and with a view like that out
02:41the bathroom window and you couldn't put your bath anywhere else, could you?
02:45It's a very friendly village, it's a lovely village to live in.
02:49There are a lot of very, very interesting and beautiful walks.
02:57People are lovely, there is a great community spirit but of course the garden, if you get
03:03a day like today, you don't need to be inside at all, you know, you can spend the whole
03:08of the day outside.
03:10It was called Galsworthy House by somebody who lived in it a couple of centuries ago
03:15or a century and a half ago.
03:17Apparently he won a lot of money on a horse called Galsworthy so he called the house Galsworthy
03:22House.
03:25If you'd like to find out the asking price for Galsworthy House you can find the link
03:30in the description.
