00:00Welcome to Watch Mojo Español, I am Jackie and today we will show you our top 20 of
00:15the TV shows that were canceled for silly, unconvincing or simply ridiculous reasons.
00:30Number 20 Futurama, canceled for its inconvenient schedule.
00:43You would think that a network that broadcasts a TV show at least, would do what possible
00:49for it to go well, right?
00:51Well, according to Matt Grining, the executives of Fox were not the biggest fans of Futurama.
00:58The series was released in 1999, but instead of putting it on the most favorable schedule
01:04on Sundays at night after The Simpsons, Fox reproduced it on Tuesdays at night.
01:10In the end they moved it to Sunday, but they broadcast it at different times and it became
01:16a tedious task to know exactly when the program was being broadcast.
01:22Remember that this was before everything was available to broadcast on demand at any
01:28time.
01:29In short, the series suffered low ratings and Fox stopped ordering new episodes.
01:36Unfortunately, Futurama has been resuscitated since then by other networks and services.
01:50Number 19 Underground, canceled due to budgetary concerns and its theme.
02:06Remember that money is the root of all evil, although the cancellation of Underground could
02:12not be classified as evil, it was mainly due to money.
02:16You see, just when the program was completing its acclaimed second season in 2017, the
02:23WGN America chain was in the process of being bought by Sinclair Broadcast Group.
02:30Underground was a definitive success for WGN, but it also cost a lot of money to produce it,
02:38and Sinclair demanded that the company reduce costs, and so they did, putting an end to the
02:44program after only two seasons.
02:48Some also speculated that the subject of the underground railroad in Georgia before
02:53the war did not make the series earn the affection of the conservative Sinclair Grove.
03:03Number 18 Robin Hood, canceled because the main actor resigned.
03:17Television programs have countless creative ways to approach the game of
03:22star actors, one of which is to eliminate their characters.
03:27While that worked perfectly for most of the other programs, it did not work so well
03:33for the adventure drama of BBC One Robin Hood.
03:36Immediately after the third season, the main actor Jonas Armstrong chose to leave
03:43the program, the chain decided to kill the character and tried to move on.
03:49But how was it supposed to work a series of Robin Hood without Robin Hood, or even
03:56a Lady Marion, since they had killed her too?
04:00The chain realized its mistake from the beginning and canceled the program before its fourth
04:06season.
04:17Number 17 Spectacular Spider-Man, canceled because Disney acquired Marvel.
04:35Marvel fans are probably very happy that Disney has bought the company, this decision
04:42led to the birth of the most successful film franchise of all time, however many
04:48of them do not know that it was also the reason for the premature end of the television series
04:53The Spectacular Spider-Man, considered by many as one of the best Spidey series of
05:00all time, at first it was planned to be broadcast for five seasons, the creators
05:07also planned to create films that would connect each installment, well all that
05:12faded when the agreement between Disney and Marvel took away from Sony the rights to continue
05:18distributing the program.
05:30Number 16 Longmire, canceled due to its audience of older adults.
05:42A television program with consistently high ratings, generally has
05:48its renovation assured, but that was not the case of Longmire in A&E back in the decade
05:54of 2010, despite being the original drama series with the largest audience in the chain,
06:00after three seasons, the people of A&E decided not to renew it for the fourth season, and
06:06you will ask why?
06:08Well, it turns out that most of the people who watched were over 50 years old, and although
06:14we are always told that we respect our elders, once you reach 50 apparently
06:20you become less attractive to advertisers, and therefore less attractive to networks,
06:27fortunately Netflix kept that respect and resumed the program for three more seasons.
06:39Number 15 Police Squad, canceled because the public did not understand the humor.
06:44Do you remember those wonderful movies from Naked Gun?
06:57Well, did you know that they were based on a television program called Police Squad?
07:02The series created by the same trio that made the film franchise was also starred
07:08by Lesley Nielsen as Frank Drebin, and had all the classic humor like Naked Gun.
07:15Given how fun and popular the movies were, why was the television program canceled
07:21after only 6 episodes?
07:23Well, the chain considered that the comedy required that the viewers pay close attention
07:29to be able to understand the jokes, which could be thought to be the case of almost
07:34any comedy.
07:35TV Guide was right when they called for that reason, the stupidest thing that ever gave
07:41a chain to finish a series.
07:54Number 14 Happy Endings, canceled because it did not fit with the brand.
08:09Happy Endings only lasted 3 seasons, but they were 3 of the best TV comedy seasons
08:16of the 2010s, however, despite the growing acclamation of criticism season after season,
08:24the ratings were never excellent, the audience seemed to recover in the second season
08:30only to be harmed the following year by an irregular calendar.
08:35However, in the end, one of the reasons given for the cancellation was that Happy Endings
08:41was a too limited program and did not fit with the brand of the chain.
08:47As reported by the then president of ABC, Paul Leigh, he said, I think Super Fun Night
08:54and Mixology are broader programs that will attract a wider audience, raise your hand
09:01if you remember Super Fun Night or Mixology, I don't think so.
09:18Number 13 Star Wars The Clone Wars, canceled because it was becoming too graphic.
09:32There are some theories about why Star Wars The Clone Wars was originally canceled in
09:372014 and none of them is very satisfactory, the animated series that was originally broadcast
09:44in Cartoon Network is one of the most prominent in the Star Wars universe, so why was it
09:50canceled?
09:51There is the opinion that, after acquiring Lucasfilm, Disney did not want to produce
09:56a successful program for a competing chain.
09:59Daniel Logan, the actor who voiced Boba Fett, left evidence that he believes that Disney
10:05ended the program because it had become too graphic, at least the company fixed them
10:11and released a last season on Disney Plus in 2020.
10:22Number 12 Veronica Mars, canceled to give way to cheap reality shows.
10:29Veronica Mars started at UPN before moving to The CW for its third season.
10:35The series not only continued to have good reviews, but also enjoyed
10:41even better ratings, but then a pause was made in the third season so that The CW could
10:47broadcast its new reality show, Pussycat Dolls Presents The Search for the Next Doll, instead.
10:54When Veronica Mars returned two months later, the audience ratings fell and the series
11:00was canceled.
11:01The creator of the series, Rob Thomas, finally said that The CW had resisted the future
11:08of the program, which indicates that it did not fit well with the new chain.
11:16Number 11 Angel, canceled because Joss Whedon asked for an early renovation.
11:29Angel was a very successful spin-off of Buffy the Vampire Hunter, which enjoyed good reviews
11:35and particularly good ratings, and that success led to its cancellation.
11:41As the main writer David Fury explained, a trusted Joss Whedon went to the director
11:48of the WB and demanded an early renovation so that his team would not worry about their
11:53future work perspectives.
11:55Instead of renewing Angel, Warner spoke of his power and in his place canceled it,
12:01another surprise from Whedon and the fans of the program.
12:05And yes, you have to believe in the words of Fury to weigh on the WB itself.
12:15Number 10 Clone High, canceled by his representation of Gandhi.
12:28The fans of Clone High were undoubtedly very excited when the series, which had been canceled
12:32after only one season in 2003, was revived 20 years later.
12:38However, not all the original characters returned.
12:41One of the most obvious missing members of the high school full of clones of historical
12:47characters was Gandhi, and there was a very good reason for this.
12:51The interpretation of the character in the first season was so controversial in India
12:56that more than 100 people in the country started a hunger strike in protest.
13:01There were also protests by members of the Indian parliament.
13:05So, since Gandhi's controversy caused the program to be canceled in 2003, it remained
13:11frozen in 2023.
13:23Number 9 Prophet, canceled because its protagonist was an antihero.
13:33Antiheroes dominated quality television in the 2000s, following Tony Soprano.
13:39And although Prophet would fit perfectly with that kind of programs, it was released a decade
13:45before, which caused its fall.
13:48Fox affiliates were bombarded with calls from distressed viewers who objected to the
13:54actions and personality of the main character, and people within the business industry
13:59despised his interpretation in the program.
14:12Viewer ratings plummeted and Prophet was canceled after only 4 episodes.
14:18The founder of Viewers for Quality Television attributed Prophet's failure to its disturbing
14:24nature, which is now considered an advanced program in its time.
14:34Number 8 Deadwood, canceled because David Milch did not want to do a half season.
14:40Deadwood is often considered one of the best television shows of all time, and fans
14:47waited a long time for it to return in the form of a movie.
15:00After the third season, the creator of the program, David Milch, was offered a fourth
15:05season that consisted of 6 episodes.
15:08After Milch refused, he and HBO reached an agreement to produce two two-hour movies
15:15that would serve as a final.
15:16However, these movies never came to fruition.
15:20In 2007, HBO executives calculated the chances that the movies would be made in 50-50 with
15:28a Deadwood television movie set 10 years after the third season of the program,
15:35which was finally broadcast on HBO in 2019.
15:45Number 7 Firefly, canceled because the network transmitted the episodes in disorder.
15:55If you run a television network and produce a serialized drama, maybe it's a good idea
16:01to run the episodes in order.
16:04Otherwise, people will get confused and leave it, which is exactly what happened to Firefly.
16:11For example, the planned premiere of the series Serenity was exchanged for the second episode,
16:17which means that the program started without the background story or the development of
16:22necessary characters.
16:24Then Fox continued to broadcast the episodes in disorder, confusing the fans and losing
16:30viewers in the process.
16:32Subsequently, the program was canceled after 11 episodes, leaving 3 unbroadcasted.
16:39You're going to burn in a very special level of hell.
16:42Number 6 Family Father, canceled due to erratic programming.
16:46Oh jeez, how the hell am I going to break this to Lois?
16:49If she finds out I got fired for drinking, she's going to blame me.
16:52No, Family Father has not been canceled again.
16:56We are talking about when it came out of thin air back in 2002, after only three seasons.
17:01On the surface, the reasoning behind the cancellation of the program makes sense.
17:06The audience was low, but if we look closer, we will find that the lack of audience was
17:12caused by the same Fox chain that moved the program at different times.
17:18At first it went well, in the middle of The Simpsons and X-Files, but then Fox changed it
17:24for Fraser.
17:26From there, they made her face Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?
17:30and then they put her at the same time as Friends and Survivor.
17:34There are not many programs that could have survived that type of competition.
17:50Number 5 Freaks and Geeks, canceled because the chain wanted it to be fresher and happier.
17:55Nick, was he the one that ate all my fruit roll-ups?
17:59Freaks and Geeks is undoubtedly a classic of cult and helped launch the careers of
18:04comedians and stars like Seth Rogen and James Franco.
18:08Praised for his authenticity in representing teenage life, many of his episodes were
18:13often sad, uncomfortable and disturbing.
18:17But this collided with the vision of the chain for the program.
18:20NBC wanted the characters to be cooler and the stories to be happier and more edifying.
18:34But the writers remained firm and NBC lost all hope in the series and canceled it after
18:41only one season.
18:43Number 4 Reading Rainbow, canceled for not being educational.
18:50It's in a book, Reading Rainbow.
19:20One night, this baby bat gets lost and her whole world is turned upside down.
19:42The book and the bat are called Stellaluna.
19:51Batman, in the mid-60s, was such a ridiculous phenomenon that with only three seasons it
20:02had 120 episodes broadcast by the ABC chain.
20:07But at the end of the third season, the ratings had fallen and ABC canceled the program.
20:13NBC, seeing a potential gold mine, acted quickly and agreed to take charge of the series.
20:23However, it seems that someone did not receive the memo, since the sets that cost hundreds
20:28of thousands of dollars in the 60s were destroyed.
20:33NBC, perhaps without wanting to spend money, time and effort on new sets, put an end to
20:38the deal and Batman was canceled forever.
20:44Number 2 Young Justice, canceled because it did not sell enough toys.
21:01Sometimes it seems that children's television is nothing more than a giant toy ad.
21:06Sometimes it is.
21:08Young Justice was a series about teenage superheroes until it was canceled by Cartoon
21:13Network after two seasons.
21:16In December 2013, the writer and producer of several animated DC comic series, Paul
21:22Dini, revealed on a podcast that apparently the program was canceled because there were
21:27too many girls watching and quoted them do not buy toys.
21:32The creator, Greg Waisman, initially denied this reasoning, but then confirmed that the
21:38series was canceled because Mattel, who financed the program, was not selling enough toys.
21:44Fortunately, the program finally returned for at least two seasons from 2019.
21:52I'm a little overwhelmed.
21:53You're overwhelmed, Freeze was underwhelmed, why isn't anyone ever just whelmed?
22:15Has there ever been anyone you felt you clicked with?
22:20And what was his name?
22:22Susan.
22:42I'm so afraid to tell people, I mean, I just, Susan, I'm gay.
22:51I'm so afraid to tell people, I mean, I just, Susan, I'm gay.
23:21I'm so afraid to tell people, I mean, I just, Susan, I'm gay.
