00:00Welcome to Tell Us Your English.
00:05We go live to Caracas once again.
00:07In this case, we are looking at statements from Diosdado Cabello, president of the PSUV.
00:18He is going to declare, actually, this is the beginning of the hearing at the Supreme
00:26Court of Justice.
00:30Let's recall that we are looking at live images in Caracas.
00:35This is the beginning of one of the hearings, the several hearings that have been taking
00:42place since Wednesday this week, and that is the Supreme Court of Justice of Venezuela,
00:48that is what we're seeing now live, has summoned all of the different representatives of political
00:57parties and also former presidential candidates and their legal representatives to come before
01:03the court to provide all necessary information on the process of July 28th elections.
01:10In this context, what we are seeing is the beginning of the hearing in which representatives
01:17of the PSUV, the Socialist Party of Venezuela, is about to begin, and the delegation in this
01:25case is headed by Diosdado Cabello.
01:36Within the greater coalition of the Greek Patriotic Pole that has appeared and through
01:45which President Nicolás Maduro was re-elected in the last elections of July 28th.
01:54So what we're looking at is the moments prior to the beginning of the hearing we see as
02:02authorities from the Supreme Court are greeting the different participants as they have done
02:08so with all of the hearings that we've been closely following.
02:12Let's recall again that this is a process within the Supreme Court of Venezuela that
02:17initiated after the petition, the filing of a contentious appeal by President Nicolás
02:26Maduro in order for the top court of the country to be able to investigate, to carry out a
02:33thorough investigation into the entire electoral process regarding the elections that took
02:41place on July 28th.
02:43That is, after that moment, the Supreme Court summoned all representatives and also all
02:52former political and former presidential candidates and legal representatives of each political
02:58space to come before the court.
03:01The court, through this initial process, is gathering all the necessary information
03:11to carry out this investigation.
03:14One of the aspects that was highlighted was the possibility of doing this in a sovereign
03:20way that is respecting and through Venezuelan institutions.
03:27That is one of the greater aims of this process that looks into the electoral process.
03:41So we are looking at the court right now, just minutes away from the hearing starting.
03:52The hearing will be presided by the electoral chamber authorities, that is, Carlicio RodrĂguez,
04:01who is also president of the Supreme Court itself.
04:07So people continue to come in.
04:09This is the third day of the several rounds of elections in which different representatives
04:17from across the political spectrum, from across all different political parties, have
04:25presented themselves before the court to have these hearings and also present all the evidence
04:35that's in their power.
04:43That is what we are looking at right now.
04:47One of the former presidential candidates who did not appear before the court and did
04:54not comply and respond to the summoning by the highest judicial authorities was far-right
05:02representative Hermundo González.
05:04This took place on Wednesday and marked the beginning stages of this process by avoiding
05:16to come forth and present himself before the court as was indicated and as all other
05:26candidates and also all other representatives from political spaces did so.
05:32Let's recall that one of the aims of this process is to gather all the information and
05:39evidence and to confront it in an institutional, legal and clear procedure, taking into account,
05:50for example, that this happens within a context of what the government has denounced as a
05:58media smear campaign, as a propaganda bombardment from foreign powers and foreign media, as
06:09a lot of circulation of what has been presented as false evidence regarding the elections.
06:19In the middle of this context, in which the importance of presenting information, of it
06:28being verified by an institutional power, is becoming more and more important, it is
06:34that this process that is being led by the Supreme Court comes into place.
06:43So in that context, the absence of Edmundo González was a significant one and one to
06:49keep in mind also.
06:54This was one of the things that was also highlighted by the vice president of Venezuela, Delsi
07:01RodrĂguez, yesterday when she met with the diplomatic body and went over a series of
07:11accounts and actions that dated back to the weeks before the elections, with the far-right
07:19sector not being willing to sign an agreement to acknowledge the results even before the
07:25elections took place, up to this refusal to come before the Supreme Court.
07:33What we're looking at are authorities now who are welcoming the different representatives
07:42who have come before the court.
07:43We're looking at General Attorney of Venezuela, Tarek William Saab.
07:51He is talking and also greeting the different representatives, as he has done so with all
07:59representatives and candidates, former candidates who have presented themselves before the court.
08:09So we are now just minutes away from the authorities that are going to lead this hearing, that
08:20is Caricia RodrĂguez, to come into the courtroom, give the official initiation to the hearing,
08:31as has been the case for the past days and all the hearings that have taken place.
08:38Let's recall that July 28th elections were done so with 10 candidates that presented
08:47themselves to that election day.
08:52Some of those were representatives of a coalition of different parties.
08:59So it's quite a number of political figures that took part in the electoral process and
09:07that they have all been summoned by the highest court of the country in its objective of gathering
09:16all necessary information regarding the electoral process.
09:21Again, let's recall after a contentious appeal filed by the president and re-elected president
09:30of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, who presented an appeal before the court with the objective
09:39of bringing all of these matters regarding the electoral process to justice and to the
09:49Supreme Court, which is the Venezuelan institution, capable of investigating and determining anything
09:58that needs to be clarified regarding the election.
10:01One of the highlights of this day is that re-elected president Nicolás Maduro is also
10:10being summoned, as were all the other former presidential candidates before him.
10:18So what we're looking at now is the beginning of the hearing of the legal representatives
10:24of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, and afterwards the presidential candidate
10:35and now re-elected president himself, Nicolás Maduro, will also be present at this hearing
10:43as were all of the others, except the case, as we were saying before, of far-right representative
10:53Edmundo González.
10:56So we see that people are now standing up.
10:59That is because the authorities of the chamber, the electoral chamber, are coming into place,
11:06led by Carlicia RodrĂguez, as we were saying before.
11:10And she is now about to initiate, formally initiate the session.
11:19Let's listen.
11:21Good morning.
11:23I declare this hearing open.
11:24Citizen Clare, you may proceed to announce the purpose of the current hearing.
11:30The purpose of the current hearing of this electoral chamber is in accordance with this
11:34stipulated in Article 85 of the Organic Law of the Supreme Court of Justice, 12 and 14
11:42of the Code of Civilian Procedure, and applicable to the court, and in order to deliver the
11:54pieces of evidence requested by this electoral chamber, as well as responding to questions.
12:03And this case is in August 9, 2024, and we are giving record of the presence of Diosdado
12:14Cabello, representative of the Socialist Party of Venezuela, and assisted by lawyer, also
12:25Julian José Benavides Rondon, representative of Tupamaru Organization, and Vanessa Montero,
12:36representative of the political organization Movimiento Somos Venezuela, Alvaro Zamora,
12:42representative of the political organization Renovadora of Venezuela, and Hidalgo,
12:52representative of Podemos political organization,
12:56Randell, representative of Partido Verde Pari.
13:04Gilberto Jimenez Prieto, representative of Movimiento Electoral del Pueblo Pari,
13:14Alok Contreras, political representative of Futuro Venezuela Pari, and Henry Hernandez,
13:27representative of Venezuelan Popular Unity Pari, and the representative of Alliance for Change,
13:41among other political representatives, and it is present the Attorney General of the Republic.
13:48So, we're looking at images with the Supreme Court of Venezuela as the hearings continue in
14:04the process that is underway regarding the electoral process of July 28, that was the
14:10hearing of representatives of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela. We'll have
14:14more information in upcoming news briefs. Stay tuned with Telstra English.
