03:36And look at the lead he's starting to build already.
03:41What has happened to Hymus over the break?
03:43Yeah, let's see if Levi can see where Chance is going fast.
03:47He was pretty quick in practice.
03:49And now you're starting to see him awake, Katie.

03:52Yeah, and talking with the team, they said he actually didn't touch the bike for a week and a half just to focus on that ankle.
03:58And as you can see, that confidence and what his body can do is also paying off for a bike that obviously was already working well for him.
04:05Yeah, well, he did win going back to Red Buddy.
04:07It had been trending in the right direction before the injury.
04:10The first moto at Millville was a little off.
04:12Didn't finish fifth.
04:13And then ever since fighting the injury.
04:15This is wild.
04:17Yeah, this kid is riding pretty good.
04:19It's important for him just to try to keep that pace up.
04:21I mean, I know he's got the speed.
04:23And I feel like if Levi can keep it, then maybe some of what that pace with Chance Hymus, he'll start riding behind him.
04:29But right now, if they let this guy walk away, it's going to be a big lead, JT.
04:33Yeah, that's exactly right.
04:34If he can keep this pace to where he can pull multiple seconds a lap, this race will be over before halfway.

04:40It's so critical for Kitchen, Deegan, Antti.
04:42Whoever fancies themselves late in this moto being a factor, they have to latch on to this pace right now.
04:47Because Hymus is all adrenaline.
04:49He's going to try to ride away into the distance.
04:51So it's that yo-yo effect where he's going to try to run away.
04:54Those guys don't have to really close.
04:56They just have to maintain this gap.
04:58And so far, it doesn't look like they can do it.
05:00Well, James, you alluded to it.
05:02Watch Hymus in qualifying as now Sivaci visiting the mechanics area.
05:06You said it didn't even look like it was that hard for him.
05:09No, just the way he rides.
05:11It's very smooth.
05:12And sometimes when you show up, I remember the first time I came to this track, if you just find the flow,
05:17and it seems like Chance has found just the lines, it becomes natural for you.
05:21So with him, there's no bad vibes here.
05:23It's only been positive.
05:25It just looks easy to me.
05:27He's just got to keep racing forward.
05:29He obviously has the speed.
05:30He can walk away from these guys.
05:31Yes, you and JT were joking in our qualifying coverage race day live that he doesn't know any other.
05:37He doesn't have any bad memories of this track, which is so difficult.
05:40His first visit here, and he owns it at the moment.
05:44Yeah, there's no bad memories.
05:46Let's keep it up.
05:47But Levi's doing a good job at now, as JT said, just maintaining that.
05:50Doesn't have to close as quickly as Chance Hymus caught past all these guys.
05:54It would be a big win for Levi if he can just keep it within three seconds,
05:58then Chance will start racing behind him, and maybe they can close back up.

06:06Then it's March Banks making that jump back down to the 250 class.

06:14Shimoda and Schoch, who's returning from a wrist injury, tenth.
06:18And, yeah, kitchen is hanging in there a bit.
06:21Yeah, you're starting to see Chance make a few mistakes.
06:24And the hard part about what he did, he passed all these guys so quickly and pulled a gap.
06:28When that stops, then you start racing back.
06:31So it almost can hurt you as quickly as he was able to catch these guys
06:35because he expected just to continue that going.
06:37Now Levi's closing that gap or keeping it.
06:40It's going to be important for Chance now to just regroup, see if he can start pulling away.
06:44That's Max Anstey still running third place.
06:47I talked to Anstey this morning.
06:49It was a bit of a rushed job as he jumped onto this team,
06:52Monster Yamaha Star Racing for Southwick.
06:54Made a lot of progress here.
06:56He's got about two months under his belt and that break.
06:59Lots of training, testing.
07:01He said one thing he noticed, every rider on the team runs the same handlebars.
07:04And after a while, he's like, can I just try something different?
07:08He's a little taller than a lot of the guys on the team.
07:10So even that, basics like that, he's had to change.
07:13But he's got company from Deegan now.
07:15Yeah, this is what Hayden's been doing all year long.
07:17Even if he gets past, he just kind of tries not to take too many mistakes or lose too many points.
07:22So good to see Max out here.
07:24He definitely looks more comfortable, Katie.
07:26He does look comfortable.
07:28And you know why, guys?
07:29Okay, I'm not taking all credit for this, but he went to Disney World with his family during the break.
07:33And I got to think, that is such a great reset.
07:35He said he was a family guy for a while.
07:37Meanwhile, you can see that there is a battle going on with Hayden Deegan.
07:40And in fact, Hayden and Brian, I was having a conversation with them.
07:44And we know that Hayden went full throttle during those couple of weeks off.
07:47Brian said maybe two weeks in the sun in Florida is catching up a little bit with him,
07:52different than some of these other riders.
07:54So keep that in mind.
07:55He might be a little bit more tired, as Brian was kind of indicating, than some of these other guys.
07:59Yeah.
08:00Yeah, we'll have to watch JT.
08:02Tom Bial just came through the mechanics area to get his bike sorted out.
08:05Now, he went back out on the racetrack, but he's a good 30 seconds behind everybody not named Joey Savage.
08:10So the most important thing here for Hayden Deegan is, as he starts to close in on this championship,
08:15the odds of him clinching this at Bletch Creek become better and better,
08:18because the number two competitor may not even get points in this moto.

08:24Could Deegan maintain that 54-point lead through next weekend?
08:27Well, it gets a lot easier, because now Bial, as you see on the left side, would drop to 30 points,
08:32and Deegan's gap to catch him would be 66.
08:35He needs a 50-point lead by the end of next weekend.
08:38Yeah, I was thinking about what Max, the motivation for going to Disney World.
08:43Yeah, I'm sure he's motivated.
08:45He's probably riding good because of how expensive it was.
08:47He has to come out here and get the podium.
08:49So, yeah, we had a good time on family vacation, but the wallet's a little lighter now.
08:56Ow, that was a hard landing for Deegan.
08:58Yeah, as Katie was saying, a lot of the riders used the break to rest and recover.
09:03Hayden did not, and he told me he's got bigger goals than just focusing on being ready for Unadilla.
09:09Of course he wants to win this championship,
09:11but he does not want to take time that he could use to get better and not utilize it.
09:16So he was willing to take that risk of putting in extra work during the time off.
09:21Yeah, I think really for Hayden, it's more just his mindset mentally.
09:24I mean, he knows he's probably not going to get that much better,
09:27but the fact is other guys are taking the time.
09:30It's just sending the message, when you guys are tired, I'm still able to come out here, still training,
09:34and that's kind of what the message that he's probably doing.
09:37And hopefully he's still young enough.
09:39I don't think it would affect him too much.
09:41Yeah, only 18 years old.
09:42That does help with the recovery, but he's working a lot on riding technique.
09:46The goal wasn't to do long motos, but he's like, man, this time of year,
09:50just standing around in Florida will train you.
09:53So no matter what kind of riding you're doing, you're definitely using some energy.

10:00Well, it's funny.
10:01When you think about Hayden Deegan, he keeps talking about he has higher goals.
10:04He is not only thinking about this pro motocross championship,
10:07not thinking about defending his SMAC championship.
10:10What else is there?
10:11You have to start thinking about he's looking at guys like Jett Lawrence,
10:14guys like Chase Sexton, and he knows to compete at the next level,
10:19to go up and immediately win, he's going to have to be a better rider.
10:22So when he's talking about working on technique, working on fundamentals,
10:25it's for that purpose.
10:27Listen, he's got a 60-plus point lead in his class.
10:29It's not about that.
10:31It's about moving up, moving toward 450, and immediately being a force in that class.
10:35The only way to do it is to be better than he is today.
10:39I think that's it, J.T.
10:40I think he's already set his sights on goals down the road.
10:44Now, this is something new we have.
10:46It's our SMX track view.
10:48We've got a couple of bikes, not the whole field yet.
10:50This is something that they've been working on.
10:52They even used it at the Combines and at Loretta Lynn's with some of the amateur riders.
10:56But you can see Bial, he's in yellow, and Jaimes in red.
11:00That's how far back Bial is.
11:03We're hoping to use this view more as we go on to give you some examples of that.
11:07Almost three-quarters of a lap down.
11:09Yeah, he's almost so far back, it can almost be better to say he was out front.
11:15But, yeah, I think for sure, 100% with Hayden, I think he's looking forward to the 450 class and racing against Jet Lawrence.
11:25But I think he also realizes, too, guys like Chance Hyman, what he's doing.
11:29These guys are good, too.
11:31So even though he has that points lead, he understands that it's not like a huge, massive speed difference,
11:36that he's just way better than everybody else in his class.
11:39He can get better, and so he knows he needs to because these guys are as well.
11:43Yeah, the racing has been very close all year long.
11:46We'll go back to Swole now in fifth.
11:48And there is Marchbank.
11:50Wow. Impressive.
11:52Marchbank sixth on the 250.
11:55It's a 450 racer with the Munkoff FXR Club MX Yamaha team.
11:59They let him go.
12:00He was supposed to move to Pro Circuit for next year.
12:03He called Mitch Payton, the owner, and said, can we maybe do something early?
12:06And they made it happen.
12:07Yeah, that's good for Garrett.
12:09He was one of the guys, you know, younger career coming up like Hayden Deegan.
12:13Supposed to be one of the next guys that was supposed to come up and win this thing.
12:16With that team?
12:17Yeah, with the Monster Engine Pro Circuit team.
12:19So good to see him.
12:20And you got to think mentally, he probably feels like he's, look, I'm going back a class.
12:25So his class should be easier.
12:27So for him, good to see him up.
12:29Probably a lot of motivation the way the deal went down.
12:32Great to see Mitch Payton and Garrett out here.
12:34And I asked him about the switch to the 250.
12:36He said, yeah, that's been an adjustment.
12:38But for him, it's more of the life change, having to go from, we talked about at the top of the show,
12:43you can live at the Club MX track, which he did.
12:46So he not only lost his ride, but then he had to find a new place to stay,
12:49had to get out to California to be able to test that bike.
12:52It has been chaotic, as he has been saying, and not showing on the racetrack.
12:56Sixth right now.
12:57Yeah, well, maybe that change has been a good thing.
12:59When life throws you a spiral like that, you have no choice but to change.
13:04So he looks good, looks really comfortable.
13:07And how this track is and how fast it is, I think if you are going to switch from a 450 to 250,
13:12because this track is really fast, it's going to maybe minimize some of the differences
13:18between those two bikes and having to shift a lot.
13:20So it's probably a lot easier for him with the speeds of this track to adjust to the 250 class.
13:26And there's Mark Banks continuing, and then we'll go back.
13:29Next in the group should be Roderick DeFrancisco,
13:34He's got back home to Bakersfield, California,
13:41about two hours or so out of Southern California, where he had been riding.
13:45And honestly, since then, he's been getting better and better.
13:48He's been right around this spot as of late, Katie.
13:51That's absolutely right.
13:53And Ryder is actually one of those guys who is actually, he has something he's intentionally working on.
13:57Those roll speeds in the corners, he wants to use that momentum better.
14:01So as he's in this battle right now with Joe Shimoda,
14:03that's actually something that he might be thinking about here as he's running around the track.
14:07Talk about roll speed there, James.
14:09Yeah, 100%.
14:10And what she's talking about is, or Ryder's working, is right here in these corners, the roll speed,
14:15you want to continue it up one pace around the whole corner.
14:18Instead of being fast and slowing down, stop and go,
14:21he's trying to carry a consistent pace around the whole corner.
14:25That way it allows him to have a better lap time.
14:28And so far, that's what he's been working for the couple weeks as Joe tries to get up inside.
14:32It's been working for sure.
14:34Whoa.
14:35Joe had trouble in the ruts.
14:36Yeah.
14:37He didn't get stuck in the rut.
14:38He crossed about seven of them right there.
14:40Easily can happen.
14:42This whole track, it's on an angle.
14:44So when these guys, you know, lose and get off balance with all these ruts,
14:47they end up crossing multiple ruts, and that gets sketchy as the day goes on.
14:52This is the battle for seventh.
14:54Dax Venick is ninth, and Pierce Brown up to tenth.

15:35Certainly based on that first lap, I'm thinking the guy's going to be 15 seconds out before long.

15:44Those guys started closing in, so he got it back out to three.
15:47So now the race is going to just play out.

15:51Those guys were able to close in all the way as we're going back to Bennett.

16:00Hyman's kind of stabilized that, so what happened in those first opening laps now is stabilized
16:05because he's gotten back.
16:07Bennett, rookie, first full season as a pro for him, and he admitted that he was pretty gassed
16:11by the time he got to Washougal.
16:13Had some time off, getting better.
16:15Hopefully not gassed now halfway through this photo.
16:18And a reminder that monster energy is available now at Morabito.
16:23And Brown putting pressure on Bennett.
16:25And Bennett said the biggest problem really has been starts.
16:28He's fast during the week.
16:30Says he feels good in the races.
16:32Well, that time, Brown able to get him.
16:35Yeah, Daxton, he must have felt him because he didn't really put up too much of a fight.
16:39But he's able to get back alongside him.
16:42Just that star race in Yamaha has that power.
16:45Able to get it on, but Pierce Brown's going for it.
16:48Daxton, you can start to see him starting to labor a little bit.
16:52And those two could be teammates last year.
16:54Some of the rumors that Brown could be headed to that team on the Yamaha.
16:58And as for behind them, should be Julian Boumer coming through next in 11th.
17:04See what Brown can do now that he's made the pass.
17:08This is part of the season where guys like Daxton, for being a rookie,
17:14now they had an opportunity to race this track last year.
17:17So they're probably familiar on these last three races.
17:19Same thing with Julian.
17:21So now it's starting to get into that second sophomore season.
17:24Just being here the second time, maybe that helped these guys out.
17:29And rookie battle now.
17:31Boumer versus Bennett for top ten.
17:38It's almost like road racing when you get to that section.
17:42It's going so darn fast.
17:44Yeah, and you can really hear when guys, they don't get the shift right,
17:47or they bury their bike because it's so loud.
17:50And you can hear the RPM so high in the RPMs that when they die down,
17:54it's pretty low.

19:19More Deegan might be starting to push up to the rear of kitchen.
19:22This is around the time where we start to see a Hayden Deegan charge.
19:25So keep an eye on him.
19:27That six to seven, seven second window can be eaten up really, really quickly.

19:50Yeah, the great part about this racetrack.
19:52It hasn't, it's still rocky out, but it's not as rocky as it has been in year pass.
19:56So before you couldn't even be close to a guy.
19:58You had to worry about a rocket in the finger and breaking a hand or finger.
20:02So good to see them open it up.
20:04But yeah, you can start to see Hayden start to see that number 48 get away.
20:08And if he wants to win this race, you have to get around these guys pretty quickly.
20:12Well, I think some people might watch this and say, hey, Deegan's got the big point lead.
20:16Is he really worried about that?
20:17What do you think?
20:19Does he want to go all the way to the front here?
20:21I think Hayden, I mean, we heard his comments about like he wanted to get better.
20:25I think his attitude, I just want to win.
20:28You know, I don't have to worry about the points if I just keep beating these guys.
20:31So, yeah, I mean, at the back of his mind, he's not going to take any unnecessary chances.
20:36But I think Hayden, the way he rides, he's got to ride like he's trying to win the race.
20:40And if he does that, a lot of times he does.
20:43But I think for him, it's easier to have that mindset than trying to protect something.
20:47Because then mistakes happen and we see how quickly things happen in championship.

21:10Now Hayden can go around the outside to square him up.

21:19The tricky part about that section is you have to get instantly out of that corner.
21:23You've got to get that part right.
21:25Because otherwise, if you spin up, then you lose all that time going up that hill.
21:28And Max was able to execute that corner on that inside good.
21:31Got that bike on that rear wheel and was tracking forward.
21:34Interesting to see if Deegan picks up on that line the next time around.
21:38Let's look at the advantage that gave Anstey.
21:45And it's now six seconds of a lead for Hymus.

21:50Having a chance got around these guys really quickly.
21:53And then things start happening.
21:55Then it settles down.
21:56Those guys kept it close.
21:57Now he's starting to open it back up.
21:59So you can tell he's getting more comfortable.
22:01And that was all caused because once he passed him, they kept it close.
22:04But he was able to hang on.
22:06And now he feels like he can hold this thing off with eight minutes left.
22:11There's a lap rider that kitchen is getting around.
22:14Oh, Deegan on the attack again.

22:17Max messed that corner up.
22:18Easy pass for Hayden.

22:21That was a mistake he was looking for.

22:28A couple more mistakes from Anstey.

22:31It's easy to happen.
22:32There is a lot of rocks on this track.
22:34And as much as these bikes are spinning, as you can see that hard base,
22:38these guys start spinning up out of the corner.
22:40Just lose a lot of time because you don't execute the corner right.
22:43That's what we saw with Max.
22:46And with Hayden right there.
22:47Exactly.

22:49You know, the conversation for a lot of these guys are,
22:51what did they work on over those last couple of weeks?
22:53And for Hayden Deegan, he worked on his right hand turn.
22:56He said, it's not necessarily a weakness, but more a bad habit.

23:03Why is the bad habit so easy to be formed in that,
23:05in that regard that these right handers are his sticky point?

23:08Well, I'm not sure what he, what he was actually talking about.
23:10Was it, you know, the brake clutch, whatever, like,
23:13what is he working on?
23:14I think for him, you know, I,
23:16I struggled more in the right-handed corner just because the brakes,
23:20you don't have the opportunity to hit the rear brakes.

25:59We saw a few weeks ago how fast he was,
26:03and he was able to beat Hayden straight up at Millville.
26:06That's first moto.
26:07And even the second moto, he looked good.
26:09So Kitchen was closed in Washougal.
26:12Maybe he's back open.
26:13He has an opportunity with almost four and a half minutes left to win this race.
26:18Well, this last section of the track definitely worked for the 47.
26:22Yeah.
26:23Levi's been quicker up in this section,
26:25but then Hayden starts closing it back in.
26:27And a lot of that could be just being in second.
26:29You can see when the guy's braking.
26:31As I say, depending on how you want to attack the corner,
26:34if you go farther inside, you can close in on the guy really quickly,
26:38but you'll lose it coming out.
26:39Maybe that's what he was going back and forth between those guys.
26:44And he'll bump Anstey up to third now.
26:49Jaleed Swole running fourth, nine seconds back,
26:52and Garrett Marchbank still running fifth.
26:56And just a bummer for Hymus, but that is what this racetrack,
26:59it's been heartbreak Hill many, many times for many riders.

27:13it's interesting to see the way this race has changed a little bit.
27:16It looks like Levi kitchen has found a little bit more aggression,

27:21but also for Deegan,
27:22I think he can afford to be a little bit more patient.
27:25The race changed because before he needed to get around kitchen,
27:28and close up another six seconds.
27:30If he wanted any chance to chance time is now,
27:32it looks like the battle is going to be between these two.
27:34He cannot let Levi kitchen get away here,
27:36but he doesn't have to force a pass.
27:38Maybe the way he did a lap ago.

30:23And since it rained, there's a lot of ruts and these ruts are a
30:26lot longer.
30:27So you have the ruts, how long they are.
30:29It's like a mud race.
30:30You know how considering the deepness,
30:32but the tracks dry.
30:33So they're hitting these thing at speed.
30:35What we were talking about.
30:36How come guys don't have what we saw with chance?
30:38I miss hyping more.
30:39And I think a lot of that was because of the way the soil is.
30:42So it's not surprising to see it.
30:43Just it's tough.
30:44This track is very different.
30:46Long ruts.
30:47It's a hard base.
30:48And once that rearing goes, you just saw what happened with chance.

30:52We don't see those crashes all the time,
30:53but you're saying there's a lot of small moments that they may be
30:56fixed or correct or save,
30:58but it's closer to the edge and it looks most of the time.

32:17Keeping that roll speed of momentum up and Levi's just losing too much time

32:21But he's quick and I'm sure he's motivated after watching that whip from
32:24Hayden right in front of him.

32:32Like he's he has no fear of firing up his competition.
32:36He'll do it on the podium.

32:42Because yeah, there's some moments in the past that things happen at this
32:46racetrack where you got to back it up and Hayden for sure.
32:49You got to have an inner belief to be able to do that and know that this
32:52guy's not going to be able to get close to enough to retaliate because all
32:55game with it'll be all fair.
32:57If Levi got back to him to put him down after that one.

33:02Hayden was asked about that at high point in press conference.
33:04And he's like, as long as I'm backing it up, it doesn't really matter.

33:17I mean, this would be a bad look if somehow Levi was able to get back
