00:00This is a moment in a matrix, bro.
00:02The vibes is better.
00:03Welcome to WatchMojo.
00:05And today, we're counting down our picks
00:07for the most intense meltdowns from famous musicians
00:10during their sets.
00:12The problem, technical difficulties.
00:16Number 30, John Mellencamp leaves after shouting match.
00:21Being a famous musician is a double-edged sword.
00:24While you get to play in front of large crowds,
00:26you also run the risk of being heckled.
00:28Longtime rocker John Mellencamp is done with the yelling,
00:32done with the screaming, the heckling,
00:33and the drunken environment at his shows.
00:36Most know how to ignore them.
00:37But John Mellencamp proved how disastrous
00:40it can be when you don't.
00:42In between songs, he addressed the crowd,
00:44only to be told to get back to the music.
00:47This immediately made him irate, causing
00:49him to launch into an expletive-filled diatribe.
00:52Now, here's the thing, man.
00:54You don't know me.
00:56You don't fucking know me.
00:58He then took things further by declaring
01:01he was slashing the set list, only to suddenly end
01:04the whole show during an angry rendition of Jack and Diane.
01:07While the initial comment was annoying,
01:10many felt that his reaction went too far,
01:12unfairly punishing those who had been well-behaved.
01:15They say life goes on long after the day of living is gone.
01:23Number 29, Action Bronson throws fans offstage.
01:27Sometimes, fans mess with the bull and get the horns.
01:31Or in this case, they get classic wrestling moves.
01:33I'll be hard to rip out so slap you with the whole head.
01:36While Action Bronson performed a 2014 set,
01:39one viewer crowd surfed onto the stage
01:42and was swiftly dealt with.
01:44Bronson pulled the fan into a chokehold
01:46and lifted him up before tossing him back into the crowd.
01:50Unfortunately, that encouraged the wrong behavior,
01:53causing another man to follow suit.
01:55The performer had lost his patience,
01:58this time opting to strike the intruder across the face.
02:01Things escalated into a full-on brawl
02:04between multiple people, all while the instrumental
02:07kept playing in the background.
02:14Despite the chaos, the crowd kept cheering Bronson's name,
02:17making it clear they didn't mind his response one bit.
02:20Keep your mind straight, focus on the prize.
02:22Always diving in the thighs, blowing smoke into the skies.
02:26Number 28, Wes Scantlin's bizarre accusations.
02:30Some instances of erratic behavior
02:32are so extreme that you can't help but wonder what's
02:34going on behind the scenes.
02:36In a trap, trip, I can't grab.
02:39At a 2016 concert, Puddle of Mud's Wes Scantlin
02:43brought things to a halt to call someone out,
02:46while he started out calmly.
02:48He quickly escalated the situation
02:50by accusing the fan of stealing his house.
02:52You stole my house?
02:56Then he tried to get the cameras to reveal
02:58his target's identity, putting a potentially
03:00innocent person at risk.
03:02In the end, Scantlin abruptly walked off,
03:05leaving his bandmates behind.
03:07While the singer had lost his home
03:09to foreclosure the previous year,
03:11there was no proof that the person he called out
03:13had anything to do with it, making his tirade
03:15all the more unsettling.
03:17You can't explain.
03:20Number 27, Lil Wayne versus the DJ.
03:24Even the most meticulous plans can go awry.
03:27While this may seem like a universal truth,
03:29not everyone can handle such sudden change as well.
03:32I told myself to save yourself, because I can't save you.
03:36While Lil Wayne was performing at a 2015 show,
03:39his backing DJ kept making slight errors.
03:42The rapper even rallied the crowd
03:43to heckle the onstage help, but that wasn't enough
03:46to get things back on track.
03:48After the wrong version of Coco began to play,
03:51Lil Wayne completely snapped.
03:53He threw his microphone in frustration
03:55and stormed off the stage, ultimately punishing
04:02the crowd for the DJ's sins.
04:04In his defense, he had been a victim of swatting
04:07just the week before, so this could
04:09have been the straw that broke the camel's back.
04:11I'm still in the building.
04:13I just had to knock a couple walls down
04:14to kick y'all out.
04:15Number 26, Nikki Sixx goes off on a security guard.
04:20Wanting to defend your supporters is commendable,
04:23but some artists take that too far,
04:25turning a good deed into a riot.
04:27And I was just a young boy, had to take a little break.
04:31At a 1997 performance with Motley Crue,
04:35Nikki Sixx caught sight of a security guard allegedly
04:37assaulting a woman in the crowd.
04:39He was so enraged that he started yelling at the guard
04:42and quickly went off the rails.
04:44And you guys deserve better than that.
04:46His rant became racially motivated,
04:49and he even encouraged the crowd to intervene.
04:51While the incitement was bad enough,
04:53the audience's elated reaction only made things worse.
04:57Any good intentions the musician may have had
04:59were instantly ruined by his abhorrent execution.
05:02Years later, Sixx seemed to acknowledge
05:05his mishandling of the situation

05:28The multi-week experience has provided

05:34When Grimes kicked off her set at the 2024 edition,

05:39until it was clear they weren't.
05:41Everything kept malfunctioning,

06:39security grabbed the offender
06:41and forced him to join the musician.
06:43Without giving him a chance to explain,

06:50His stunt ended up backfiring when it was revealed
06:52that the fan was a teenager,
06:54resulting in a misdemeanor charge for the singer.
06:57There's no doubt that his actions were effective,

07:21She came up behind him,
07:22startling him enough that he turned her around
07:25and punched her in the face.
07:26The backlash was swift.
07:28The rapper was escorted off stage and hit with a charge.
07:31His reaction was especially bizarre,
07:33considering he had at least a dozen guards on stage
07:37who could have handled the situation differently.
07:39Afro Man eventually released his own statement,
07:42explaining that he had mistaken her

20:31at the KROQ's almost-acoustic Christmas concert
20:34when Homme kicked a photographer,
20:36seemingly without reason.
20:38According to the photographer, Chelsea Lauren,
20:41Homme violently kicked her camera,
20:43which was driven into her face.
20:45She was forced to seek medical treatment
20:47at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
20:49Homme later apologized,
20:50saying that he was, quote,
20:52lost in performance.
20:54I was a total dick.
20:56Number eight, Ted Nugent on Obama and Clinton.
21:00Ted Nugent is one of the most outspoken Republicans
21:03in entertainment,
21:04and it was clear that he abhorred Democrats
21:06Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
21:08While performing in 2007,
21:10Nugent brandished two assault rifles on stage
21:13and told Obama to, quote,
21:15suck on my machine gun.
21:17I was in Chicago last week.
21:19I was in Chicago.
21:20I said, hey, Obama,
21:21you might wanna suck on one of these, you punk.
21:24He also told Clinton to, quote,
21:26ride one of these into the sunset.
21:29His suggestions were met with some cheers
21:31and applause from the audience.
21:33Hey, Diane Feinstein, ride one of these,
21:35you worthless whore.
21:37Nugent, who famously said of apartheid that, quote,
21:41all men are not created equal,
21:43would later call Obama, quote,
21:45subhuman and escalate his threats,
21:49leading to investigation by the Secret Service.
21:51Freedom!
21:56Number seven,
21:57Father John Misty rants about American idiocracy.
22:01He may go by the stage name Father John Misty,
22:04but chances are most fans didn't shell out
22:06music festival cash for a sermon
22:08about the numbed collective consciousness.
22:10Do we think that our hilarious tyrant
22:13is going to be met with a hilarious revolution?
22:17Tillman was set to perform at WXPN's Exponential Festival,
22:21but rather than grabbing his guitar and putting on a show,
22:24he decided to smoke a cigarette
22:25and lecture about the numbing effect
22:27of the entertainment industry,
22:29the nature of evil and the stupidity of the world.
22:31No, no, no, look over here,
22:34put your self-awareness on.
22:36He then improvised a winding piece
22:38before covering Leonard Cohen
22:40and prematurely walking off stage.
22:42We don't know if he was on something,
22:44but it sure killed the audience's buzz.
22:47Number six,
22:48Axl Rose jumps into the crowd.
22:51Axl Rose, vocalist of Guns N' Roses,
22:54certainly has a flair for the dramatic.
22:56He's infamous for his tirades and meltdowns,
22:59but the best of the bunch has to be this one,
23:01which sees him literally jumping into the crowd.
23:03Hey, take that, take that.
23:06Now, flip that guy and take that.
23:08After telling security to take away a man's camera,
23:11Axl proceeds to jump into the crowd
23:13and take action into his own hands.
23:15He then blames the, quote, lame-ass security
23:18before slamming the microphone down
23:20and storming off stage.
23:22Well, thanks to the lame-ass security,
23:25I'm going home.
23:26Bam!
23:29It's not every day you see an entertainer
23:31leaving the stage to literally attack their own fans,
23:34but hey, Axl Rose has always been one of a kind.
23:38Number five,
23:39Courtney Love freaks out.
23:41Okay, this one we can understand.
23:43I don't need to see a picture of Kurt, asshole.
23:46While playing in Brazil,
23:47Love stopped the show to deride a fan
23:49who was constantly throwing up a picture of Kurt Cobain,
23:52frontman of Nirvana and husband to Love for two years
23:55before he tragically took his own life.
23:58Go see the f***ing Foo Fighters and do that shit.
24:01She called the fan rude,
24:03explaining that she has to live
24:04with the memory of Kurt every day
24:06and that throwing up pictures of him
24:08is disrespectful and stupid.
24:10The man apparently does it again
24:11because she curses him out,
24:13flips him off and leaves the stage.
24:15Most onstage freakouts are childish,
24:17but this one, while still unpleasant,
24:19feels heavier and more personal.
24:22Number four,
24:23Kurt Cobain has a tantrum.
24:25Speaking of Kurt Cobain,
24:27here he is in action doing very Kurt Cobain things.
24:31Kurt was seemingly hammered for this performance
24:33as he randomly stops performing in the middle of the song,
24:36staggers backwards and slams his guitar into the ground.
24:39He then goes on a rampage of destruction,
24:42which includes destroying the drum kit,
24:44knocking over and viciously head-butting the amps
24:47and using the drum cymbal as a blunt instrument.
24:58Like his similarly weird freakout
25:00at the Hollywood Rock Festival,
25:01it's hard to tell if this is just a drunken escapade
25:04or an unwell man desperately crying out for help.
25:08Number three,
25:09Danita Sparks throws her tampon at the crowd.
25:13Now this is surreal.
25:14Sparks, co-founder and vocalist of metal band L7,
25:18was truly not feeling up to facing the wrath
25:20of the crowd on this day.
25:22While playing at England's Reading Festival,
25:25the band experienced technical difficulties
25:27and the irate crowd began to fling mud at the stage
25:30in frustration.
25:32In retaliation, Sparks took out her menstrual product,
25:35spoke to the crowd and flung the used item at them.
25:38You can't use tampon.
25:42Oh Jesus.
25:45It's hard to know where to begin with this.
25:47We're used to vocalists yelling at people,
25:49jumping into crowds and destroying equipment,
25:51but this, this is something else.
25:53Today, if you're invited to Reading next year,
25:55I will be giving birth and eating the placenta on stage.
25:58Number two, Billy Joe Armstrong's meltdown
26:01at iHeartRadio.
26:02Come here, you wanna stop here and fight?
26:05I'll fight you right now, come on, get up on the stage.
26:08Green Day's Billy Joe Armstrong
26:09is no stranger to confrontation,
26:11having jumped into a crowd to fight a patron
26:13who was supposedly bothering others in 1997.
26:17But it's his infamous 2012 meltdown
26:19that takes our entry here.
26:21Green Day was performing at the iHeartRadio Festival
26:23in Las Vegas when the singer noticed
26:25that they only had one minute of stage time remaining.
26:28I've been around since 1980, and you're gonna give me
26:35one minutes?
26:37Rather than putting on a hell of a final minute,
26:40Armstrong stopped the song and went on a slurred,
26:43profanity-filled tirade, complete with declarations
26:46of how long he's been around
26:47and that he isn't Justin Bieber.
26:50Let me show you what one f***ing minute f***ed me.
26:57He then destroys his guitar, flips off the officials,
27:00and saunters off stage.
27:02We've seen angry people before,
27:03but this is a full-on meltdown for the ages.

27:23Number one, Kanye West's rant in Sacramento.
27:26Kanye West has always been a controversial
27:28and dramatic figure, but he elevated his game here
27:31and delivered what was surely the greatest meltdown
27:34in music history.
27:35I am putting my career, my life, my public well standing
27:40at risk when I talk to y'all like this.
27:42This is a moment in a matrix, bro.
27:45After showing up 90 minutes late to a show in 2016,
27:48West performed very briefly before randomly exploding
27:51into a diatribe that touched on many topics,
27:55including fellow celebrities like Beyonce and Jay-Z,
27:58the politics of Hillary Clinton, and pop radio playlists.
28:01Get ready, get ready,
28:04because the show's over.
28:06He then dropped the mic and stormed off stage.
28:09Later, he canceled the remaining dates of the tour,
28:11citing stress and exhaustion.
28:14Have any of your favorite musicians
28:16ever freaked out mid-performance?
