Capt Sekhar Ghosh was a valiant officer born on September 27, 1975, in Barrackpore, West Bengal. The son of an army veteran, late Lt Col Shankar Nath Ghosh and Smt Ira Ghosh, he grew up with a deep sense of patriotism. Capt Sekhar pursued his passion for the military by joining IMA. He was commissioned into the Army Service Corps in December 1997 and later served with the 2 Sikh Infantry Battalion in Jammu & Kashmir.

Capt Sekhar Ghosh was known for his exceptional soldierly skills and leadership. He was awarded the Best Young Officer's Trophy in 1999 and a COAS Commendation Card in 2000 for his outstanding performance. His bravery and commitment were most evident during a counter-insurgency operation in Rajouri, J&K, in August 2000. Leading his troops in a fierce battle against terrorists, Capt Sekhar displayed extraordinary courage, eliminating multiple terrorists and saving his comrades. Tragically, he was martyred during the operation on August 12, 2000, just shy of his 25th birthday. For his supreme sacrifice and valour, Capt Sekhar Ghosh was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra, one of India's highest gallantry awards. He is remembered as a true hero, leaving behind a legacy of courage and dedication to the nation.

00:00The last visit that he had come, he told me something like,
00:12Mani chal baate karte hain, it was around 12-12.30 at night, toh maine kaha ki Sheru
00:18aaj nahi kal, unfortunately that kal never came.
00:29I don't know, like, this is one regret that I have, that I could not honour his words,
00:36like, I never thought that I would never be able to meet him ever again, I think.
00:44Shekhar, we used to fondly call him Sheru, you know, Sher, and the reason why, because
01:03he was, I think from the very childhood he was indomitable, like, he was very brave,
01:11very courageous, and always on his toes, always on his toes.
01:42There was nothing like, you know, one fine day that he decides that I would like to join
01:45the army.
01:46It was always there, that he will be there in the army.
01:50Aaya mein toh padikha dila, padikha diye, I was selected.

02:32He had a great sense of humour, so what he would do, he would, you know, send letters
02:38when he would send letters, he would draw the pictures and at that time I realised for
02:43the first time that what a good artist he was.
02:46We never knew that an artist is there in the house, the way he used to sketch.
02:51Sketch that this is how we have been trained for swimming, this is how the trainer is,
02:58you know, is teaching us, and all the funny things he would speak about.
03:08It was 12th August, 2000, and August, so we didn't have a telephone at that time.
03:18Even, you know, at that time it was very difficult to get even a connection.
03:22So my landlord, he said that your parents, your father has called, and you are to go
03:27to your mom's place immediately.
03:30So as I was approaching my house, main dekhne hoon ghar ke saamne itni bheed lagi hui hai,
03:37toh as I was climbing up the stairs, I said, okay, no, ma, she's, you know, crying.
03:43So I was so confused that I thought, has something happened to my father?
03:48But then if something has happened to my father, but then somebody is telling you that father
03:51ne call ki hai, and then I say, my father also crying.
03:55And then it struck me, oh my God, it's Sheru.
03:58I just could not believe it, because he was somebody,

04:15and he came back in coffin.
