Liam Keen & Nathan Judah discuss the Wolves standouts that impressed during pre-season.
Transcript
00:00We are back, baby. It's the Keenan-Judah Show. We are talking about five players who have
00:10impressed throughout pre-season. Before the break, we discussed Pedro Lima and Pablo Sarabia.
00:16Who is number three, two, and who gets the coveted number one spot? Wait and see. In
00:23at three, very interesting player and one who I have not forgotten about at all before
00:30I read my list and my script. And that is someone who didn't start on Saturday, actually.
00:36A little bit unlucky not to start, but someone I think has impressed both of us and definitely
00:41impressed Gary O'Neill because he's been captain a couple of times this season that we've seen
00:47on the pitch. And that is Mr. Tommy Doyle. Yeah, I'm a big fan of Tommy Doyle. I really
00:51am. I think the kind of infielder he is, is very different in many ways to what Wolves
00:57have. And that makes him unique and that makes him useful for Wolves. But his performances,
01:03look at last season, the way that he developed in a Wolves shirt, he's carried that in really
01:07to the summer. He played superbly well, I think in pretty much every opportunity and
01:12every friendly that he played in. As you rightly say there, when Lamina hasn't been on the
01:16pitch, he has been captain, came on full Lamina against Valeriano and took the armband
01:21as well, which at 22 years old is a big thing to have. And it's an unusual thing as well
01:27to have a player of his age taking the armband. But it seems to me, and this is coming from
01:34not only watching his performances on the pitch, but also having interviewed him after
01:39the game and been around the training camp that we have been from preseason. He seems
01:45to me like someone who is maturing as a person and as a player. The interview I did with
01:53him, it's not always necessarily an indicator of where someone's at, but I do think that
01:58it plays some part. The interview I did with him after the Leipzig game, he seemed like
02:03a very confident, mature, composed and quite impressive professional actually. And it was
02:09the best interview he's done with me by, by some way. Now, obviously you have to see
02:15how the rest of the season goes. I'm sure I'll speak to him on several other occasions,
02:18but it feels like he's very confident and very happy with the role he now has in the
02:23Wolves dressing room. And I think that will certainly impact his performances as well.
02:27And then ironically, he's probably not going to start at Arsenal, which is a shame because
02:31as I said, I think he's a very good player, very technically impressive, but Joe Gomez
02:38and Mario Lamina are going to be the starters again, certainly to start the season. But
02:43Tommy Dore will play lots of games this season, whether it's coming off the bench consistently,
02:47whether it's starting tactically, there'll be changes to the starting 11 and he will
02:52come in. Also, Wolves could very easily play a midfield three. They have been playing with
02:57a 10 anyway. They play with a deeper 10, play with a midfield three and Tommy Dore comes
03:02in. They may even do that for Arsenal to try and crowd the midfield and look after possession.
03:08I think he'll have a big role to play for Wolves this season. And I think he's had an
03:12excellent start really in pre-season.
03:15Amazing really, at 22 years old and taking some of the captaincy duties. Crikey.
03:20It's really impressive. I spoke to him about this as well to say, look, this is unusual.
03:25And he said, he feels like he backs himself. He feels like he's got the leadership qualities.
03:31Gary clearly trusts him. And if you've got all of those things combined, you get opportunities and
03:37he's certainly got an opportunity in front of him right now.
03:40My decision at 22 was whether to watch Scooby-Doo or The Regrets.
03:44Great shows though.
03:45Great, great show. It was absolutely unbelievable.
