Martin Zubimendi turns down Liverpool move: Are fans expecting business to start to hot up near back end of transfer window?

  • last month
As Liverpool fans may have been questioning the lack of business over the summer, to bring new names to bolster Arne Slot’s first season in charge, will the deals start to hot up near the back end of the window and what areas do The Reds need to strengthen in ahead of the upcoming campaign?

00:00Is there anything expected to pick up from now until the start of the season, now players
00:16are starting to return from the tournaments and hopefully there can be some transfer business
00:21done?
00:22Yeah, I think so. I think, you know, looking at the slots, what the players are at, they're
00:28pretty much starters or the ones you bring on off the bench. Obviously, you know, likes
00:34of Van Dijk, Alexander-Arnold, Luis Diaz, Nunes, Kalista, he already knows enough about
00:40them to know that they'll be in his plans. So it's been the case of who are the back-ups
00:47who I want to keep, who maybe do I want to leave and where do I need to bolster. And
00:53obviously, the number six role is one that's been talked about quite a lot. It's with Tyrone
00:59Wendzel, the player who I'm a slot once for that. Holding midfield's role, is he good
01:05enough on the ball to be progressive enough that I'm a slot once? Well, maybe not. So
01:10Liverpool go and look elsewhere. And, you know, just before we've come, we've started
01:15talking now, it would be a pleasure if Liverpool have identified a number six outside of the
01:20Premier League. So I'm sure that fans will be strolling through La Liga and Serie A seeing
01:25who could fit the bill. So that would be one. Another forward that's been talked about,
01:34the Anthony Gordon links are continuing. But for Anthony Gordon to come in, you'd probably
01:40have to lose a left-sided forward. Joel Jotunen, even Darwin Nunes can play there. And you've
01:48got a couple of younger players as well. And, you know, Fabio Carvalho stays, that's another
01:52option. So did he need another forward? Did he look on the other's flank? Did he look
01:58for a long-term successor for Mo Salah, someone who can give Salah a little bit of respite?
02:04Because when he came back from injury last season, he wasn't the same player. And maybe,
02:08you know, playing all those games that he has done since he arrived at Liverpool, he's
02:12catching up on him. And a centre-back has been talked about as well. The Pearl have
02:17got four stroke five options, if you include Stefan de Beek, who's done well in pre-season.
02:23Obviously, Joe Gomez, there was an agreement with Newcastle for him to go the other way
02:27with Gordon before that deal broke down, before the PSR deadline. But reports suggest now
02:34Joe Gomez is fully committed to Liverpool and they're in the spot. So if Joe Gomez
02:40stays and the Liverpool need another centre-back, they have four stroke five options. Depends
02:45on what happens with Van den Berg as well. But yeah, I think the midfielders, if you
02:50are to have supporters, they want to be in midfield. And it looks like that will be the
02:55area of the pitch that Arnaslott's looking to target now.
