00:00UEM Lestra Berhad, a wholly owned green industry arm of UEM Group Berhad, has set aside 1.5
00:10billion ringgit to help finance the cost of decarbonising Malaysia's industrial parks.
00:16UEM Group Managing Director Amran Hafiz Afifuddin said this is part of the group's agenda to
00:23spur domestic and foreign direct investments, which will lead to job creation and position
00:29Malaysia as a global player. Amran, who is also UEM Lestra's chairman, pointed out that
00:36investors are now keen on zero-emission operations. He said the group is exploring avenues to
00:42set up new sustainable industrial parks and decarbonise existing ones by upgrading current
00:48infrastructure. This could involve integrating renewable energy sources and implementing
00:54other advanced energy management systems and technologies to optimise consumption patterns,
01:00he added. UEM Group also noted that plans for a new renewable energy industrial park are already
01:07in progress, with UEM Lestra having announced in July 2023 that it is leading the development
01:13of a one-gigawatt hybrid solar photovoltaic power plant integrated with an RE industrial
01:20park in the country.
