Astros Lead AL West, Mariners Struggle with Offense

00:06straight games. The Mariners got clobbered yesterday in
00:09Detroit. Fifteen to one. The Tigers putting on a pounding.
00:13So now a game and a half advantage for Houston atop the
00:17American League West. They are the odds on favorites at a
00:20minus 280 number to win the division. How do you compare
00:26these two teams right now near the top of the division? The
00:29Astros and the Mariners. Hey, before we get into it, let's
00:32pour one out for George Kirby, the Mariners right-hander who
00:35just had his ERA torpedoed yesterday. Brutal. I mean, we
00:40were geared up for Tarek Schuble, George Kirby round two.
00:43Kirby, the line on him was what? Three and two-thirds,
00:47thirteen hits, eleven earned. ERA jump from three one three
00:51to three seven three. So, absolutely brutal. Like, it
00:55stinks that that guy has that on his season because he was
00:58throwing so darn well but Ben, to answer your question, I I
01:04really struggle to see how the Mariners offense drastically
01:08improved at the deadline and I I like the addition of Randy
01:12Rosarena. I do. I know that you have the additional year of
01:15control of Randy Rosarena after this year. So, I liked it uh at
01:19the moment and I I still like it. I I like that influx of
01:23talent. Justin Turner was a fine get like it just feels like
01:27a B minus C plus get. Hey, you got, you know, a little bit
01:29better but that isn't a lineup altering yet. I just, I doubt
01:35this Mariners team's ability to score runs over the course of a
01:39given week and the Astros, I don't have that doubt. Jordan
01:43Alvarez should absolutely be in the conversation with an Aaron
01:47Judge with a Shohei Otani when it comes to best hitters in all
01:50of baseball. Jordan has been a menace and that Astros lineup
01:55is like deep enough to get it done, man. Not to mention
01:58Justin Verlander is on rehab. He just looks sharp in AA as
02:02well. Um you know, like you pair from Valdez and Hunter
02:06Brown and Justin Verlander at the top. It's not the Mariners
02:10technically. It's not a Gilbert Castillo, Kirby, Wu Miller mix
02:14that has made the Mariners the best starting rotation in all
02:17of baseball but they paid a lot of money for that bullpen and
02:20you know, who knows if that bullpen will blow it or not in
02:23Houston. Uh they paid a lot of money for that lineup and that
02:26lineup is just objectively better than Seattle. So, I'd
02:29say it's the Astros and they're not looking back at this point
02:32but I mean, they're both playing good ball right now.
02:34Who's gonna slip up first and II don't know. I guess fifteen
02:38to one in the seventh inning would be a slip up but you know,
02:41again, this is baseball. You gotta blank slate every single
02:45morning.
