00:00Motorists who flout traffic regulations at key locations across Liverpool could now be
00:05slapped with a fine after a six-month grace period came to an end.
00:09A series of automatic number plate recognition cameras have been installed at locations across
00:13the city centre.
00:14It was revealed earlier this year how 1,400 drivers were caught out by new cameras at
00:19Lime Street and Ranley Place in the first day alone.
00:22Liverpool Council were granted the new powers by the government.
00:25In the first two months of the operation, 8,500 notices were issued by the local authority,
00:30resulting in a warning for first-time offenders.
00:33The warning notice period ended at the start of this week for the majority of locations,
00:37with Liverpool Council issuing approximately 40,000 warnings and close to 3,000 fines to
00:42repeat offenders during this time.
00:45Liverpool ANPR cameras are situated at Lime Street from London Road, Lime Street Bus Link,
00:50Copperas Hill at Ranley Place, Ranley Street at Brownlow Hill, Whitechapel Cross, Hall
00:54Street Junction, the Strand at Newquay, Chapel Street and St Anne Street.
