If the Cowboys are worth $10B, why don't they spend like it?

Sportico's rankings of the most valuable sports teams came out yesterday, and surprise surprise, the Dallas Cowboys were atop the list. Their value now tops $10 billion dollars, but as we all know the team doesn't spend like it. If they have all the resources available to improve their team, why don't they throw their weight around like they are rich?

00:00We've mentioned that yesterday, the rankings of the most valuable franchises from Sportico,
00:23obviously the Dallas Cowboys come up at number one.
00:27In fact, I believe their valuation year over year jumped $1.1 billion.
00:35The difference between the Cowboys and the second team on the list is the same as the
00:39second team on the list down to 21.
00:43That is how huge the gap is that the Cowboys are the most valuable franchise in the NFL.
00:49So the top 10 goes like this, Cowboys, Rams, Giants, Patriots, 49ers, and then Jets, Dolphins,
00:56Eagles, Raiders, Commanders.
00:59But the question that got kicked around here is, if the Cowboys are the most valuable,
01:03and they definitely are, why don't they act like it?
01:07Now Corey, I'm going to go over to you first because I really thought this was a great
01:13question by you.
01:15Doesn't it feel like the teams that are the biggest teams in sports will move mountains
01:21to make their team a winner?
01:24Yes.
01:25Look man, we need to get Shohei.
01:27Let's go spend the money to get Shohei.
01:28As a matter of fact, Kevin, since the year 2000, the Dodgers have been as low as 10 on
01:35payroll, but consistently top three in payroll.
01:40The Yankees consistently top one, two, three, actually Kevin, six is the lowest they've
01:47been.
01:48That was in 2018.
01:49Other than that, it's ones across the board in a time, and for that time where it was
01:53all ones, they were a dominant team.
01:57The Steinbrenners would go out and get whoever it was, look at them right now, who hit three
02:02home runs last night?
02:03Juan Soto.
02:04Because they said, is he one of the best players in the game?
02:07Let's go get the best player in the game.
02:09And they went and paid for it.
02:10And here we are haggling with Dak and CD Lamb and potentially Micah down the road, instead
02:16of saying, look, we're going to do everything we can to ensure that we have the best competitive
02:20team on the field.
02:23You know what?
02:24We're going to go higher.
02:25We're going to go draft small because we're a small market team.
02:28No, you are in one of the top four markets.
02:31Are we moving into top three at some point here?
02:33Probably so with the way things are about to turn.
02:36You're in one of the top four markets in the country.
02:39You are the most valuable team by miles, by countries, like you're like that far ahead
02:45of people that you can make these moves and it's not going to hurt you in the same way.
02:51So I don't understand why the Cowboys act like they are poor, like they are scrapping
02:56for pennies all the time, much like Cincinnati and saying, we can't build a winner the same
03:02way as all the best teams out there.
