00:00Good evening. I'm Bret Baier. We have brand new Fox polling on the presidential race out
00:07this hour. Former President Donald Trump holds a slim one-point advantage over Vice President
00:13Kamala Harris in the nationwide survey of registered voters. That obviously is within
00:18the margin of error. The top issue among those voters, the economy, at 38 percent. Nothing
00:24else is really even close. Immigration and abortion follow at 14 percent. Tonight, the
00:30former president says Vice President Harris would ruin the economy if elected. He also
00:35told an audience in North Carolina the Biden-Harris team turned the economy his administration
00:40oversaw into a nightmare. Vice President Harris had no public events today, even as there
00:46are lingering questions about where exactly she stands on some of these top issues. We
00:51have Fox team coverage tonight. Peter Ducey is at the White House with why Harris may
00:56be trying to distance herself from her boss's economic program, plus renewed scrutiny over
01:00her record on immigration. But we begin with congressional correspondent Ayesha Hosni,
01:05who's with the Trump campaign in Asheville, North Carolina tonight. Good evening, Ayesha.
01:10Bret, good evening to you. Former President Trump came to Asheville, North Carolina to
01:14talk about the economy, and he did, for the most part. He also took a few personal shots
01:20at Vice President Kamala Harris, despite the fact that some conservatives out there want
01:25him to tone it down and stick to the issues. Bottom line, he told voters here that things
01:31were better, the economy was better under his watch, and he laid the blame of all the
01:37economic problems of today squarely on Harris' shoulders. If Harris wins this election, the
01:43result will be a Kamala economic crash. Former President Trump taunting Vice President Kamala
01:50Harris today at a packed rally in North Carolina, two days before she rolls through the swing
01:55state to unveil her economic policy. She's waiting for me to announce it so she can copy
02:01it. Trump pouncing on today's inflation report, while the rate of inflation slowed to 2.9%,
02:09its lowest since 2021. The price of essentials, including food, energy and shelter, is up
02:16from the same time last year. Credit card debt is also up 48% since President Biden
02:22and Vice President Harris took office. She wants to talk for the future about these fantasies,
02:28but really what she needs to explain is the present suffering that she's caused along
02:34with Joe Biden. The rally happening in deep blue Buncombe County as Trump tries to hold
02:39on to the critical battleground state. Conservatives here tell Fox News inflation is top of mind.
02:45My business is down over 30%. Gas and grocery prices are just out saying the rally comes
02:52as Trump receives advice from some conservatives who want him to tone down the personal attacks.
02:57Her laugh is career threatening. That's the laugh of a person with some big problems.
03:02Instead, they want him to stick to the issues in hopes of appealing to independents and
03:06moderates. A brand new Fox News poll shows independents currently favor Trump over Harris
03:12by eight points. Trump's running mate defending his campaign style in Michigan today. He's
03:17not unwilling to speak off the cuff. He says was actually on his mind. But if you look
03:22at this race, we're talking about policy. That's 90% of what we're doing. And President
03:28Trump is now headed to Bedminster, New Jersey, where tomorrow he will hold another news conference,
03:34a second one, Brett. In just one week, we will be there. And that's a stark comparison
03:39to the fact that Vice President Harris still not committing to a news conference or even
03:44an interview. Brett, I just live in Asheville with the Trump campaign. I should. Thanks.
03:50We are learning tonight. Vice President Harris may be trying to move away from Bidenomics
03:55as public dissatisfaction with the economy, specifically inflation, and the job she and
04:00her boss have done remains high. This is her record on another top issue. Immigration is
04:06also under the microscope. Senior White House correspondent Peter Doocy has that part of
04:10the story tonight live from the North Lawn. Good evening, Peter. Good evening, Brett.
04:14President Biden hosted 100 social media influencers here at the White House today and basically
04:18told them he hopes they give him better coverage than he's been getting. Vice President Harris
04:24stayed out of view. So that gave us a lot of time to go through the archives. I'm looking
04:30for a job. And his vice president is trying to get promoted with a different platform.
04:39Details to follow in coming days. Axios is now reporting that she is hoping to distance
04:44herself from President Biden's unpopularity on the economy. Can you blame her? Do you
04:49know this is the Biden-Harris administration? Are you aware that this is the Biden-Harris
04:53administration? She is indeed the vice president. A lot has changed for a vice president who
04:58spent years celebrating those policies.
05:01Bidenomics is working.
05:03In a brand new Fox poll, 43 percent of voters polled say their personal financial situation
05:08is excellent or good, a seven-point improvement from last December. But just 28 percent of
05:14registered voters believe the condition of the economy is excellent or good.
05:19Yes, yes, yes. And my policies are working. Start writing that way, OK?
05:26Border policies, an even tougher sell. Trump is favored over Harris on border security
05:30by 19 points and on immigration by 14 points. To date, Vice President Harris hasn't personally
05:37explained major changes in her beliefs, which once included a desire to shut down private
05:42ICE detention centers, which the administration hasn't done.
05:46We're treating them like prisoners. It's an awful display.
05:52Scrap ICE altogether.
05:54We've got to critically reexamine ICE. We need to probably think about starting from
05:58scratch.
05:59And stop deporting border crossers who haven't been accused of other offenses.
06:02Parents, people who had not committed a crime, even by ICE's own definition, were being deported.
06:07Today, the campaign communications director's explanation was vague.
06:12She's obviously wants to secure the border.
06:16So what we're learning with all this is that while the vice president hopes to distance
06:21herself from Biden policies so unpopular they forced President Biden out of the race,
06:27the president and his team at the same time are eager to make sure the entire world knows
06:33Vice President Harris is actually his partner on everything.
06:39And Peter, what about these reports that the Harris campaign tried to manipulate news headlines?
06:44Yeah, there's an item in Axios that the Harris campaign has been editing headlines and descriptions
06:50on Google search ads to include adjectives that are more favorable to the vice president.

06:59The campaign hasn't talked about this yet.
07:01There's a nameless source who claims that they just want to give users more context
07:06before they clip.
07:08But multiple news organizations that had their content deceptively edited in this way tell
07:13our colleagues at Fox Digital they did not know it was happening.

07:22Stocks were up tonight following that inflation data we told you about the Dow gaining two
07:26hundred forty three.
07:27The S&P 500 was up twenty one.
07:29The Nasdaq finished ahead five.
07:32Tonight we follow up on a story we brought you last night that is raising serious concerns
07:37even from some Democrats about sanctuary city policies.
07:41A Haitian immigrant accused of raping a 15 year old girl is back in jail after being
07:46released by local authorities on a bail of just five hundred dollars.
07:51Correspondent Bill Maluchan reports from Los Angeles.
07:54Corey Alvarez, a Haitian migrant and accused child rapist, is in federal custody tonight
08:00after ICE arrested him near Boston yesterday.
08:03Alvarez was charged with aggravated child rape in March after prosecutors say he raped
08:09a 15 year old girl inside of a Massachusetts migrant hotel.
08:13Shockingly, in June, local authorities in the sanctuary state released Alvarez on just
08:18five hundred dollars bond and ignored ICE's request to transfer him to their custody.
08:24That outraged ICE's Boston field office director, who tells Fox Alvarez was a priority risk
08:30and he used his team's limited resources to find him.
08:33When you have to make the choice between going to get the fentanyl dealer or the child sex
08:37rapist, it's really frustrating when local law enforcement and other agencies won't work
08:41with us.
08:42Fox confirms Alvarez first came to the U.S. last year, flying directly into New York City
08:47via the Biden administration's controversial CHNV mass parole program.
08:52DHS has now put that program on hold after an internal audit revealed significant fraud
08:58in it.
08:59The Plymouth County D.A.'s office, which is prosecuting Alvarez for the alleged rape,
09:03is slamming DHS, telling Fox in part, quote, Our office has repeatedly asked questions
09:09of state and federal officials about specifics of the CHNV process.
09:14We have received little to no answers.
09:16Meanwhile, in New York City, prosecutors have charged a Senegalese illegal immigrant with
09:22raping a woman on a park bench in the Bronx and a Nicaraguan illegal immigrant has been
09:27charged with raping a woman at Knife Point in Coney Island.
09:30Democratic Mayor Eric Adams is getting fed up with the city's sanctuary laws.
09:35The laws do not allow us to coordinate with ICE.
09:39That's the law.
09:40And, you know, I'm not happy about that.
09:45And Brett, Mayor Adams and the NYPD are now both calling for changes to the city's sanctuary
09:50laws.
09:51They say it just makes no sense whatsoever that they are banned from cooperating with
09:55ICE when it comes to these repeat violent offenders who are here in the U.S. illegally.

10:05Less than a day away from a new round of talks aimed at achieving a ceasefire between Israel
10:10and Hamas.
10:11The timing is crucial as Israel braces for a promised attack from Iran and casualties
10:17rise among civilians in Gaza.
10:20But now one side may not even attend the negotiations.
10:24National correspondent Jeff Paul has the latest tonight from Tel Aviv.
10:29They are some of the youngest casualties of this war.
10:33Civilians in Gaza rush to the hospital as the intense fighting between Israeli forces
10:38and Hamas shows no end.
10:40But there is a renewed effort to silence the strikes, rocket fire and gun battles as a
10:45fresh round of negotiations begins in hours.
10:48There is no more time to waste and there's no more valid excuses from any party for any
10:57further delay.
10:58The U.S., including CIA Director Bill Burns, Egypt and Qatar will mediate the truce talks
11:03with Israel confirming it's sending a delegation to Doha.
11:07Hamas leaders say they won't attend.
11:09A Hamas official has reportedly lost faith in the U.S.'s ability to work out a deal,
11:14saying they'll only join the talks if the previous plan detailed by President Biden
11:18is implemented.
11:19Both Israel and Hamas have at various points proposed changes, causing both to accuse the
11:24other of creating hurdles.
11:26But the Qataris have assured the U.S. Hamas will be represented.
11:30The resumption of talks on Thursday is an important step.
11:34This hostage deal, this ceasefire deal, this end of war will help lower tensions in the
11:38region.
11:39A ceasefire deal could also be key in preventing a wider regional war.
11:43Tehran reportedly saying it's the only thing holding back Iran and its proxies from launching
11:48a retaliatory attack on Israel.
11:51Secretary Blinken, the President, others across this administration have been deeply engaged
11:55in sending a clear message about de-escalation and sending a clear message that everything
12:02needs to be done to get this ceasefire deal across the finish line.
12:07Now Hezbollah, which continues to exchange fire with Israeli forces on a near daily basis,
12:12well, they'll be watching this new round of negotiations very closely.
12:16They, like Iran, have threatened to attack Israel, but so far have held off.
12:20Beyond that, it'll be the families of the 115 hostages still being held who are praying
12:26their nightmare finally comes to an end.

12:37Republican presidential candidate, former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley.
12:41She is sharply critical of Vice President Kamala Harris's stance toward Israel, specifically
12:47Harris's separate meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after his recent
12:52visit to Washington.
12:55Israel has a right to defend itself and how it does so matters.
13:02What has happened in Gaza over the past nine months is devastating.
13:06The images of dead children and desperate, hungry people.
13:12We cannot allow ourselves to become numb to the suffering and I will not be silent.
13:19It was reported in the Israeli press that the Israeli delegation was taken aback by
13:23some of those statements after their meeting.
13:26One, what did you think of the dual meeting?
13:29And two, where do you think Kamala Harris stands, Vice President Harris stands on Israel
13:34policy?
13:35Take Kamala Harris at her word.
13:38She has made it very clear when we were having campus protests, she was silent.
13:45When we were talking about Israel, she was always taking the side of the Palestinians
13:49in Gaza.
13:50She has made it very clear that she's an Iran sympathizer.
13:54She wants to expand the Iran deal.
13:56She wants to work with them.
13:58Take her at her word.
13:59When you look at Israel and what they're doing, they're trying to make sure that Hamas, that
14:06said, they're going to do it again, that Hamas never does it again.
14:09They can't trust Palestinians because Palestinians joined with Hamas to do it.
14:14And Kamala Harris needs to understand, don't sit there and talk about the images of those
14:19children.
14:20Hamas is sitting there and putting their compound areas in schools.
14:25They're doing it in areas where they know if Israel hits, they can say, oh, look, they
14:29hit a school.
14:30They hit a hospital.
14:31Well, guess what?
14:32The leadership is in that school and in that hospital.
14:36Up next, we will go to the big board to look at Fox News power rankings for some key governor's
14:41races.
14:42And before we head to break, live look at New York City there.
14:47Former President Trump has lost his latest bid for a new judge in his New York criminal
14:53case as it heads toward a key ruling and potential sentencing next month.
14:58Judge Juan Marchand declined again to step aside, saying the former president's demand
15:04was a rehash rife with inaccuracies and unsubstantiated claims about political ties of Marchand's
15:10daughter and his ability to judge the historic case fairly and impartially.
15:14Again, that's Judge Marchand talking about that.
15:17It's the third time the judge has rejected a request from lawyers of the former president
15:21and current Republican nominee.
15:23Former president on True Social today slamming Judge Marchand's gag order in the case, while
15:28a campaign statement said Trump will, quote, continue to fight this scam.
15:40Minnesota Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has won her closely watched primary.
15:44The member of the so-called progressive squad defeated repeat challenger, former Minneapolis
15:49City Council member Don Samuels.
15:52She avoids the fate of two fellow squad members, Missouri's Cori Bush and New York's Jamal
15:57Bowman, who lost in their primaries.
16:01Let's examine our latest Fox News power rankings, looking at close gubernatorial races across
16:07the country.
16:08Eleven states have races for governor this election cycle.
16:13As you see, these states, we can break it down.
16:16Most of them are expected to be solid Republican holds.
16:20You can see Delaware is projected to be a solid Democrat hold.
16:24If you look a little closer at the competitive races, there's one in particular in New Hampshire.
16:31Republican Governor Chris Sununu announced in July that he was not seeking reelection.
16:35Now the state will hold Democratic and Republican primaries on September 10th.
16:40North Carolina, you have our power rankings having this state leaning Democrat.
16:45Incumbent Democratic Governor Roy Cooper is term limited.
16:48So Democratic North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein hopes to replace him.
16:53He'll face another North Carolina politician, Republican Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson.
16:59And in Washington state, our forecast has this gubernatorial race as likely Democrat
17:04win.
17:05Democratic incumbent Jay Inslee is not running for reelection, giving Republicans a long
17:09shot chance here.
17:11Former King County Sheriff Republican Representative Dave Reichert faces Washington Attorney General
17:16Bob Ferguson.
17:18But it's important to point out this could be a difficult race for Republicans to begin
17:22next year.
17:23And this is a live look at Honolulu.
17:25One of the big stories there from a sunny Honolulu, KHON, our affiliate.
17:30The PGA Tour releases its 2025 FedEx Cup regular season and playoff schedule.

17:55Breaking tonight, we are getting new information tonight about what Hunter Biden, the president's
18:00son, apparently did to try to advance his business dealings while his father was vice
18:06president.
18:07Hunter Biden's attorneys say he did nothing wrong, but some in the government felt differently
18:12all along.
18:14Here's correspondent Mark Meredith.
18:15Mr. President, did you know your son reached out to a U.S. ambassador about Burisma?
18:20Tonight, President Biden is facing new questions about his son Hunter's past business behavior.
18:25The New York Times says it's obtained new documents through a FOIA request showing when
18:30Joe Biden was vice president in 2016 that Hunter urged the U.S. ambassador to Italy
18:35to help Ukrainian energy firm Burisma, which he worked for, secure new business.
18:40The president was not in business with his son, and this is the first time, the first
18:44time he's, he was not aware of this.
18:47The Times reports the request left embassy personnel, quote, uneasy.
18:51Today, the State Department vowed to release more details in the coming weeks.
18:55We do not have any additional perspective to offer on the production of these documents
19:00given that it is tied up as part of ongoing litigation.
19:03Lawyers for the first son insist nothing improper happened.
19:06Abby Lowell telling the Times, quote, no meeting occurred, no project materialized, no request
19:11for anything in the U.S. was ever sought, and only introduction in Italy was requested.
19:17Congressional Republicans who for years have investigated the Biden's business dealings
19:21say the timing of the document dump is suspicious as it came shortly after President Biden dropped
19:26out of the 2024 race.
19:28The Times says it sought the documents for years, but officials deny any political malpractice.
19:33I would not read into anything into the timing.
19:37These FOIA processes are long, robust processes, and they are, frankly, independent of what
19:44else is happening in the world.
19:46Hunter Biden will be back in the spotlight next month.
19:49He'll be in Los Angeles facing charges of tax fraud.
19:52In June, he was found guilty of three felonies for lying on a gun application.
19:56He faces up to 25 years in prison for that case alone.

20:10She's going to hide in the basement until she's forced out.
20:15She doesn't want anybody to know what she's for.
20:17She's not Trump, so she has my vote.
20:21So is Vice President Harris getting favorable treatment from the media?
20:24And if so, how is that translating in the polls?
20:26Joining us tonight is Nate Silver, founder of FiveThirtyEight and author of the new book
20:32On the Edge, The Art of Risking Everything.

20:38Congrats on the book.
20:39I want to talk about that in just a minute.
20:40But we have some new polling out tonight that looks at a couple of things.
20:45One is the president's up one point, which is margin of error, but also extremely motivated
20:49to vote in the 2024 election.
20:52It's now tied 68-68 between Trump supporters and Democratic supporters and best describes
20:59your presidential vote preference for my candidate against their opponent.
21:04And you see the breakdown for my candidate, 77 for Trump, 63 for Harris.
21:10Polls are a snapshot of time.
21:11You talk about this all the time.
21:13But where is the snapshot that you see right now in this race?
21:17If you have the election tomorrow, which would be a strange thing to do, by the way, I think
21:21Harris would be a slight favorite.
21:22He's been ahead in most recent polling in the blue wall states, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin,
21:26Michigan, Georgia, North Carolina, Arizona, Nevada, all polling in the margin of error
21:31range.
21:32Look, this Fox News poll is pretty good for Trump.
21:34That'll help a little bit when we update our model tomorrow.
21:36But you'd rather be Harris today.
21:38People should remember, though, two things.
21:40One, we have three more months to go.
21:41There will be more surprises.
21:42And two, the polls have been wrong before.
21:45In both the last two general elections, they underestimated Trump.
21:48Yeah.
21:49And what about that, the underestimating of Trump?
21:51Is it two points?
21:52Is it three points?
21:53Is it people going into the polling booth saying to their friends they haven't voted
21:57for Trump, but they really do?
21:59You know, polling is difficult.
22:01The conceit is that you randomly dial people, but we don't really have like landlines anymore
22:05very much.
22:06Right.
22:07People don't answer calls from from strangers very much.
22:09So there's a lot of modeling and sometimes models go wrong.
22:13You know, in twenty twenty two, there was not a Republican overperformance, a slight
22:16D1 in some of the Senate races instead.
22:19So our view is that the polling bias is unpredictable, but could go in either direction.
22:24Right.
22:25If Pennsylvania is, you know, Harris plus two on Election Day, it could be Trump wins
22:28by two or Harris wins by six, et cetera.
22:33Democratic consultants and legend really, James Carville, was hitting Democrats early
22:39on in this changeover, saying you're getting too giddy.
22:43He sounded a little giddy today in recent days about this race.
22:46Take a listen.
22:48Democrats have to win a popular vote by two and a half to three million.
22:52So that's not is that that comes in a cabinet.
22:55I'm not saying that she's going to win by five or he's going to win by one to half.
22:59But I think that's the range that we end right now.
23:04She's saying it's more likely that she wins by five than he wins by one and a half.
23:08I mean, you're buying that right now.
23:10I don't know which side of that bet I'd take.
23:13I mean, look, Hillary Clinton won the popular candidate, Hillary Clinton.
23:15If you get into the three point range or something, that's a little bit worse than
23:18Biden 2020, a little bit better than Clinton 2016.
23:21So what the polls show now is not unreasonable.
23:24But you know, the other factor here is I think Trump has been knocked off his his campaign
23:29a little bit.
23:30They were underprepared for a change in the Democratic candidate.
23:34They have been, in my view, making some tactical mistakes, focusing on things like her race,
23:37for example, instead of immigration or the economy.
23:41So you know what?
23:42I think August is going to be a good month for Harris.
23:45She's usually going to bounce after their convention.
23:46So you might see late August some really rough numbers for Trump.
23:50But September is a whole new month.
23:51It's a stretch from the race.
23:52You have a debate, at least one, maybe multiple debates.
23:55And she'll have higher expectations than she has right now.
23:58I want to put up your book cover.
24:00It's an interesting read.
24:02I've read some of it.
24:03And it's on one of the edge, the art of risking everything on the edge.
24:08There's this part, the river versus the village.
24:11And you write, people are becoming more bifurcated in their risk tolerance.
24:15And this affects everything from who we hang out with to how we vote.
24:18Maybe Netflix guy and strip club guy aren't even shopping at the same grocery store anymore.
24:24Netflix guy moved to the country now that he doesn't need to be in the office.
24:28And strip club guy moved to Miami.
24:30You have Musk at one extreme and people who haven't left their apartments since COVID
24:34at the other.
24:35The village and the river are going farther apart.
24:38What's the message, you think, from this book?
24:41The message is that risk taking is important to society.
24:43It's important to America, why a lot of people move here and move across the country to go
24:46to California, for example, to found companies.
24:50It's part of what makes America different and exceptional.
24:54At the same time, we do have this bifurcation where you have, in some ways, unrestrained
24:58risk, people like Sam Beckman Freed or maybe Elon Musk.
25:00On the other hand, the village, which is like the liberal progressive establishment, can
25:04be very risk averse in certain ways.
25:05We saw that in COVID.
25:07We've seen that in other ways, like maybe curtailing free speech, for example.
25:10Although I will say they made, I think, a smart, risky decision to replace Joe Biden
25:15with Kamala Harris.
25:17Really interesting.
25:18Again, congrats on the book and we look forward to your insights as the election continues.

27:15There's this part, The River Versus the Village, and you write, people are becoming more bifurcated
27:20in their risk tolerance, and this affects everything from who we hang out with to how
27:25we vote.
27:26Maybe Netflix guy and strip club guy aren't even shopping at the same grocery store anymore.
27:31Netflix guy moved to the country now that he doesn't need to be in the office, and strip
27:35club guy moved to Miami.
27:37You have musk at one extreme and people who haven't left their apartments since COVID
27:41at the other.
27:42The village and the river are going farther apart.
27:45What's the message, do you think, from this book?
27:48The message is that risk-taking is important to society, it's important to America, why
27:52a lot of people move here and move across the country to go to California, for example,
27:55to found companies.
27:57It's part of what makes America different and exceptional.
28:01At the same time, we do have this bifurcation where you have, in some ways, unrestrained
28:05risk, people like Sam Beckman Freed or maybe Elon Musk.
28:08On the other hand, the village, which is like the liberal progressive establishment, can
28:11be very risk-averse in certain ways.
28:13We saw that in COVID.
28:15We've seen that in other ways, like maybe curtailing free speech, for example, although
28:18I will say they made, I think, a smart, risky decision to replace Joe Biden with Kamala
28:22Harris.
28:25Very interesting.
