00:00For Sudan, peace could not come sooner.
00:04In Switzerland, on Wednesday, US-led talks began with hopes of ending the 16-month civil
00:09war, a difficult task given neither warring parties were in attendance.
00:13These are their manoeuvres to gain power, to gain points, but this will have to stop.
00:25The Sudanese people have suffered enough.
00:27Although paramilitary RSF forces confirmed participation, neither side were represented
00:32at Wednesday's session.
00:34After unsuccessful talks in Saudi Arabia, the US emphasised their commitment to continue
00:39despite absentees.
00:40What is happening in Sudan right now is one of the most dire humanitarian situations in
00:46the world and so there is a moral responsibility for the United States and other like-minded
00:53partners to try and come together and see what else can be done to help alleviate that
00:58situation.
00:59Over a year ago, fighting broke out between the regular army led by General Abdel Fattah
01:04al-Burhan and the paramilitary rapid support forces under Mohamed Hamdana Daglo.
01:10On Wednesday, the army celebrated their 70th anniversary with no signs of slowing down
01:14the fighting, as locals expressed both hope and scepticism for the international talks.
01:21We hope the negotiations will have a positive outcome and alleviate the suffering of the
01:26Sudanese people.
01:28The decision of the commander-in-chief to not participate is right.
01:34The crisis has forced 10 million people to flee their homes and left thousands dead.
01:39Refreshed efforts to resolve the conflict come as famine grips the country at breaking
01:43point.
