01:40they're building the reputation for his destructive power jr but of course
01:48viradi has been able to watch learn from the mistakes of those who've gone before
01:59he's going about it the right way at the moment as well always jr he's using that jab very well
02:04he's also a couple of times just pushed viradi back to the ropes and that's what he's got to do here
02:10and then he can switch the attack viradi has got to stay out in that he's done let's see that's a
02:15bad position to be in the on the ropes or in the corners he's got to try and box in the spaces
02:21and ring center just ring space really so he's got full range of movement but this is a confident
02:29start from alice jr they're working well behind that jab and closing that gap down
02:34and some thought going into his work which is also impressive
02:45big picture the defeat on the opening night the big question mark but there were many people
02:51inside boxing who knew that that was only going to be a blip he's not looked back

05:34bit before he starts his work they make one of them they may have to concede the first two or
05:39three rounds even when always jr's it is quickest and the sharpest but nevertheless
05:45then biradi his main objective early in the contest will be to get through the early rounds

07:11you see you don't want to be too repetitive with his jab so that little faint occasionally
07:16that's what i was junior that's what he's doing there just to be a bit unpredictable

07:26intriguing fight yeah baradi obviously the more confidence he will get that he can get through

09:29that certainly baradi is gaining confidence
09:35so far tonight it is proving to be a step up in class i mentioned the
09:38relevant belts and the rankings that will follow for the winner
09:46but in terms of the quality of the opponent there is a few puzzles to solve against baradi
09:51which is as it should be of course richie at this stage in his career it's only his ninth fight
09:55alice jr yeah this is um much more difficult opponents isn't it it's a bit of quality this
10:03kid baradi their play actually a clever contest on the on the outside and like i say he's just
10:10waiting for i think alice jr just to slow down a little bit what we need to see more from alice
10:15jr he's a little bit more head movement just gets caught with the shot there as he's come forward
10:20so he needs to go left and right with his head a little bit more head movement keep the opponent
10:24guessing before he actually launches the attack so at the moment he's a little bit too far out
10:29he's too far there you go there's that movement with the head creates a problem
10:41right uppercut looks a potential problem tonight for alice jr baradi
10:47pressing forcing alice jr to give ground he went back in a straight line right into the baradi corner
10:52and he's taken a few here yeah there was a good right to become also a good right hook that went
10:56in and that's um really had alice jr struggling a little bit there he's got to try and weather

12:30going always junior just instinctively just keeping those clubs high but a couple of right
12:35hooks got home and he weathered the storm but that was a tough period for him

13:20raucous noise which greeted alice jr from his fan club has abated somewhat
13:28the problem is every time we turn the camera on the trumpet's going to sound up again
13:32so
13:47he's on the outside and just trying to weather the storm of his opponent
13:51then he just shoots forward counter-attacking occasionally but i just think he's just trying
13:56to wear alice jr down up on his toes and on the outside i think that's the tactic here to drag
14:03alice jr into those later rounds and just trying to keep his distance and it's up to alice jr to
14:09try and close that gap down and pressure him pressure his opponents and just get him back
14:14onto the ropes and then against any moving boxer paul try and target the body to slow those feet
14:21down that's what i think he'll have to do again the right uppercut is eaten by alice jr that is the
14:28biggest question you've touched on it richie if it does go to the second half of this fight
14:32jr has got no experience over the longer trip
14:43that's why just a touch more elusive for with his approach
14:47that head movement he's done it occasionally and he's looked really good doing it
14:51but try and draw the jack the jab the lead of the opponent and just move the head then left and right
14:58and then you can launch that counter after veradi's thrown that lead out but it's head
15:04movement in front in front of him you've got to threaten as if you're going to throw
15:08to draw that lead and then whip one over the top there it is there not too far away
15:18so
15:26still largely a pace at which berardi is comfortable
15:30flashes of the explosive adios jr of the night he's been blowing the opponent out
15:36that this is altogether a different magnitude of test tonight puzzles to solve

16:36so our fight starts punch analysis from jabber
16:41landed punches favoring berardi overall richie yes of the odd singles on it from the outside
16:46isn't it i actually thought it was a slightly better round for alloys junior in that last
16:52variety did a little bit too much on the outside for me i've got to do some more counter-attacking
16:57where he just comes forward occasionally but it was a close round paul and you know the judges
17:03may have seen it differently they may have preferred that back stuff boxing from berardi
17:09hard to know very often in these international contests different perspectives not just from
17:14where the judges are positioned around the ring richie but from different parts of the boxing
17:18world judges come with slightly different parameters yeah absolutely
17:34little flashes a nice sharp boxing from junior
17:39see once berardi holds his feet he's got to keep moving hitting and moving i think he's when he's
17:45more elusive on that back foot it's difficult to allow junior to to nail him with a shot once
17:49he holds his feet like he did then i was junior thank you very much just punches away
18:07i already knew enough to get out of the alloys junior corner
18:11he's going the long route around the ring in this round
18:15halfway through round five nearly halfway through this contest
18:28so
18:33of course given our geographical location richie here in great britain we are
18:42more privy to the backstory of alice junior and his development so far but let's also remember
18:47that for berardi this is only a ninth pro fight tonight yes he could be anything couldn't he yeah
18:53absolutely and again he's boxing with a lot more it would appear he's got more experience than nine
19:00contests for boxing the clever contest but he's not he's not winning it for me he's not doing
19:08enough at this stage berardi may think about obviously the latter rounds
19:15so
19:21richie at this point to what degree does the big punching alice junior say to himself nothing i'm
19:27throwing is hurting this bloke or even making a dent in him yeah well that's important paul
19:31that you stay positive you know you listen to the corner
19:37and you know you have to expect this that he's not going to knock everyone out
19:45so
19:56very useful on a night like this to have a man in charge in the corner ben davison who does not do
20:02panic
20:15your scorecard rich yeah i think um that's how i see it a lot of the rounds are close
20:22but um i think alice junior on that front foot is um the more convincing for me
20:28berardi third round he had certainly had a good round but he didn't follow it up in the fourth

20:49so second half of the fight the theory goes something like this berardi looking to draw
20:55junior into a long hard fight over territory that alice junior has never experienced before

21:14oh that was a nice move there again set up behind that lead and that jab
21:19even for a shorter boxer the jab so important to get close enough then to land that backhand
21:26that was a perfect example there and this better work from alice junior
21:31berardi did seem to be breathing very deeply indeed rishi between the two rounds
21:41that would run counter to the theory that they've had a plan to take alice jr
21:47into a trip he's not comfortable with at the moment alice jr is looking
21:52very composed and his gas tank looks full well again i think berardi's feet have just
21:59slowed down a little bit paul and that's just allowed alice jr to land a few nice jabs and set
22:05up the backhand there's less movement from him now from berardi he may be feeling the pace a little
22:10bit maybe he was certainly more awkward when he was on the move it wasn't doing a lot for me in
22:15response but this is certainly suiting alice jr a little bit better because it's a more um stationary
22:22target
22:25berardi had a sense clearly there that he had to start throwing a few more
22:32one or two signs alice jr's beginning
22:35to exert a bit more authority and berardi clearly a very smart fighter read that
22:42that's nice work from alice jr flashes of excellent boxing from him tonight
22:47so again when berardi holds his feet he's in trouble here because it just allows alice jr
22:55then to let his shots go but berardi i think as you said paul he's feeling the pace a little bit
23:02and he's just slowed it down which is suited alice jr might only be the precursor to a big charge from
23:11berardi
23:19not the fight we're expecting in a lot of ways given everything we've seen from alice jr we
23:24expected all-out assault it's been strategic both ways alice jr also doing his fair share
23:32of boxing and moving berardi a cunning operator yeah most certainly
23:52any time you get close he's locking up
23:55so there's a bit of room when he's bouncing directly in front of you
23:59make it sharp jab to the body he's jabbing back put right hand behind him he'll be there
24:09and a bit of distance turn your jab into a left hook sometimes
24:14because when you get close he's locking up so you've got to be efficient keep that going yeah
24:18he's trying to finish with a big 10 seconds
24:30so
24:45alice jr from the center of the ring
24:50was she a sense that that had been a good round for alice jr and
24:54potentially a moment in the fight where he can start to build
24:58a big advantage that seemed to me to be what ben davison was saying to him yeah i mean for two and
25:03a half minutes of the round alice jr i think it was in control it's only the last 30 seconds or
25:09so that berardi has landed a couple of good shots and looks stronger towards the end but
25:14this is a good start again from alice jr and again berardi there just holding his feet
25:21so
25:43just don't know if he's doing enough though richie no he's not you know i'm giving most of
25:46these rounds to alice jr for me he's just not working and hard enough and not and not pushing
25:52alice jr back enough for me
25:57what's intriguing about that for me is they're very passive in his corner they send him out each
26:02round as if to say look the plan's working we're going deeper and deeper into this fight we're
26:07going to get our moment of opportunity but alice jr seems to be growing in confidence
26:14well he's growing in confidence and he's winning the round four i think so anyway so
26:18time is starting to run out isn't it four four rounds left including this round
26:26and alice jr for me i think he's he's he's going he's into a fair lead that's the way i see it anyway
26:44some real flashes of good boxing off that jab tonight from alice jr yeah
27:01little feints here and there and just keeps the opponent guessing
27:06he feints with the front hand with the front foot sometimes and it just um
27:12just makes berardi think the shot's coming and it's not coming then the right hand may
27:17may come that's a little bit better from berardi can he keep it going now that becomes the question
27:24little flurries three or four sharp combinations which are accurate and scoring but he doesn't
27:30maintain it jr walking him across the ring again late in this seventh
27:43that is now the end of the seventh round berardi might be planning a sprint finish
28:00you might have to go back to it
28:02don't get too trigger happy with that
28:04one it'll take a little bit too much out of yourself
28:06two you'll give up soon
28:10jabbing your face mixing up the jabbing your face is what's going to create opportunity
28:14mixing up the jab face today and downstairs keep him guessing and then shots will come up for that
28:20you know when it's locked up it's too many touches touch touch get off downstairs
28:25it could create a little bit of where we might go or he'll step up
28:31a bit more on the middle
28:44three scheduled rounds still to go
28:48annos jr boxing very intelligently in spells
28:52uh
28:58berardi certainly had his moments but in the last two or three rounds he seems to be
29:02taking more ritchie and throwing less it seems to be a pattern doesn't it that alice jr seems to
29:10start the round too strong and um but berardi maybe have a good last 30 or 40 seconds to the
29:16round where he um steps it up a little bit but he's not doing enough for me paul in between
29:22berardi on the outside
29:27you know the judges may see it differently but i think um alice jr is winning these rounds he's
29:31winning mainly in the first two minutes but it's not going to count but when he's immediately
29:37indicated it was not a clean hit
29:39oh
29:54you've been given a good five minutes i should imagine paul if he needs it
30:04alias jr is indicating he thinks berardi's milking it just a little bit
30:10so

30:24i think alice jr might take a little bit of encouragement out of that
30:33again berardi just um holding his feet a little bit the guards good
30:39god is good richie but some of them are scoring shots by alice jr aren't they
30:44that was definitely a scoring shot but smart berardi moves off the ropes
30:52berardi is not offering a lot
30:56needs to offer more for him yeah needs to work a little bit harder doesn't he
31:01so
31:18just a sense that there might be a storm about to break here in the all-course
31:24the possibility of a thundery outburst of power from alice jr
31:31so
31:47to be honest

32:31so let's have a look at this one here this punch yeah there it was look just on the kidney there
32:45from alice jr
32:49so the referee quite rightly gave him a time to recover he's in some distress there
32:56it's a little bit naughty there from alice jr with that shot
33:11punch starts from jabber tonight
33:17high impact certainly favoring alice jr but by now in most of his professional fights the impact
33:24has been overwhelming different story tonight against aronzo berardi who's finding a way to
33:30stay in this even if the work rate seems to quite clearly favor alice jr and that's the same story
33:36early in this ninth round see occasionally berardi when he does hold his feet he lands
33:43with a couple of good shots on the inside but it's the risk element that really comes into it
33:48and there you go look at alice jr now so he's holding his feet and this is alice jr's territory
33:53this is what he wants he wants this type of a battle and this is where he really goes to work
33:59but if you watch berardi occasionally you'll land a good shot but he's taking too many
34:04just landing that's the odd single
34:14just for a moment they normally passive approach from the corner they began to become a bit more
34:19agitated for berardi they're saying you must work a bit harder
34:23he's such an easy target for alice jr in most of these rounds
34:32and the plan we thought the plan paul might have been from berardi to take
34:36alice jr into these latter rounds and this new hit and the movement style was certainly making
34:41it awkward for alice jr but since he's decided to stand and trade and hold his feet he's come
34:47off second best to passive yeah he's come off second best here berardi
34:54and he's starting to tire himself and that's probably because of the punches that he's
34:58actually taking not necessarily because of output it's the shots that he's on the receiving end
35:09i'm looking at alice jr rich and also thinking at times he could become a very good inside fighter
35:15absolutely yeah
35:18seems to be made for that style of boxing he needs a little bit more head movement here and
35:22there but when he does he move his head and he's very dangerous indeed on the inside you can see
35:29what how he's so successful and how explosive he is when he gets into that short and mid-range
35:35that's his territory all day long another big plus for alice jr no panic when he's had to go
35:43the long long route in this fight never thought that uh well i don't know how to do this or i
35:49haven't got the legs for it nothing like that admittedly the pace hasn't been hot not as hot
35:54as the climate in here tonight berardi certainly feeling the pace not alice jr
36:01and again it's a learning fight for him isn't it i mean he's knocked out seven opponents in his
36:06eight contests remember alice jr this is a tough 10 rounder
36:16that was a nice shot right on the end of the right hander
36:20if nothing else a clear round winner surely for alice jr surely
36:37just be sensible come out here
36:41some good action here right at the end of the round that was the best shot of the round from
36:45alice jr he took it well berardi fair play to him he's a tough tough cookie
36:50but that was an excellent shot there
36:58richie woodall scorecard with one to go
37:01so yeah i've got him way ahead i mean listen a couple of rounds might have been closer
37:07but uh for me alice jr has been the one that's been on that front foot and winning this fight
37:23as aronzo berardi saved something for a very big last round which is clear
37:28view is that he's going to need to stop his man
37:33alice jr stopped on his pro debut in this very same venue they all call beth le green
37:40one stride forward after another since then we've seen many different sides to him tonight
37:47he's proven a lot of people wrong he's much more than just an explosive knockout artist there's a
37:53boxer in there there's an in-fighter in there and there's a guy who apparently can go 10 or maybe 12
37:59which is going to be important you just got to watch what he's doing here alice jr i mean he's
38:04finishing the the contest strong but surely the berardi corner would have told them and that he's
38:10behind and that he needs a stoppage so he might just go for it here berardi but it's alice jr
38:15that's going through and finishing the round finishing the contest strong but like i say just
38:21now on that side of caution a little bit because berardi he needs a knockout for me and
38:26he may need he may know that surely he knows that richie surely he knows he's got to empty the tank
38:33it seems to shade reluctant to do that
38:39there's also a dogged determination in the ring and out of it from alias jr
38:45he's saying my destiny is to be a top fighter i will do whatever it takes
38:50to get myself into that level of the game and this is a great contest for him to take him one step
39:01closer to that goal for because this has been you know a good real hard workout for him
39:09again sometimes a tricky opponent actually nail
39:13and someone that's taken a couple of good shots and he's still in there
39:19so close quarters inside the final minute of this 10 rounder
39:24berardi offered a really sharp right uppercut in the early stages if he ever needed it is right now
39:30now better work landing from alice jr heavier punches
39:44almost a clear look to bob williams from berardi which is a little bit of a telltale sign in itself
39:51persistent to the very end alice jr
40:01and now out on his toes final few seconds
40:11competitive to the very end but in all the important moments it seems like alice jr
40:16has prevailed one way or the other celebrating already claiming the victory
40:23alonzo berardi threatened to give alice jr problems he would struggle to solve tonight but to his
40:30great credit he found solutions maybe it wasn't perfect but he has shown more potential
40:39tonight in that 10 rounder than we've seen is in an entire career before tonight couldn't agree
40:44with you more for actually because um alice jr i think mentally going into the contest it's got
40:51to be on his mind you know he's not when he hits guys they get knocked out he's knocked out seven
40:56of his eight opponents coming to this contest and he's in against a fairly decent puncher himself
41:01remember because berardi had knocked out six from from eight but nevertheless that's still in your
41:05mind that you're going to knock the guy out i don't think he caught him early with some good
41:08shots but then he knows he was still there so he had to readjust a little bit and totally had a
41:13different mindset then going into the second half of the contest it's a fair play to him
41:19yeah look at the punches paul the punch stats punch stats from jabber 623 thrown by alice jr
41:27that's a big margin of advantage and what just under five literally one under 500 to the head
41:37124 to the body punches landed 175 a bit closer in when he was throwing he was quite accurate at
41:44times was berardi but not enough not enough the power all on the side of alice jr not enough now
41:50i could see what he was trying to do early on in the contest hitting and moving and trying to
41:54let the steam get out of alice jr a little bit weather the storm but he never really produced
41:59any front foot boxing pushing alice jr back never really counted the tap enough where he's
42:05beaten his opponent to the punch and alice jr like i said he had to reassess things i think alice jr
42:11realized that he wasn't going to knock him out and so then he went into that second half the contest
42:15thinking yeah i might have to go the distance here but he still kept it going
42:19and he kept it together and i think that's a really good performance against a tough opponent there
