00:00This year, the block's located on Phillip Island, Victoria, where five teams of brand
00:10new blockheads set up tents and started building luxurious holiday homes. Week one, the hardest
00:21room to deliver the main bathroom. It's bathroom week! There were busted dunnies. What a disaster
00:29of a start this is. Busted people. I just feel like I'm failing. Mishaps. That's seven
00:34hundred bucks in the bin. Calamities. You need to find some sort of compromise for me.
00:39I've been nothing but accommodating for you. And unfinished rooms. At least it's half crowded.
00:45There was even a block baby birth. Little bundle of joy. Leaving Victorian team mate
00:51Ricky on his own to deliver their other block baby, the bathroom. There's a massive difference
00:56between two and four hands. And a judging, Christian and Mimi from Adelaide won the first
01:01win. Christian and Mimi! Tonight, it's the first bedroom week and rooms take shape. The
01:13race is also on to select their entire flooring and kitchen appliances. All right, let's go
01:19crazy. They buy the latest kitchen whiz-bangery. Twist pad here and you're up the power level.
01:25We say knock to open. You're kidding! Yeah, right. And pressure to make decisions fast
01:33sets off the waterworks. Then Christian and Mimi meet up with block royalty, Steph and
01:42Gianna. The biggest winners ever. And Christian does a bad, bad thing. You can't do that.
01:53That's so childish, man.
02:12It's day one, week two, season 20 of the block. And with seven days to the next room reveal,
02:21tent city on Phillip Island has woken to a mixed bag of emotion. So we've got two ends
02:26of the spectrum here, guys. We've got Christian from house five. And the losers from house
02:34one. We placed last in the judging. It was not a surprise to us in the slightest. I was
02:41actually anticipating to get a lower score. Do you know what? There's actually four losers
02:48because there was only one winner. There's another one. We've got another winner.
02:57We won, which is very exciting. We got a $30,000 Wolf BBQ. We got a $100,000 Camerich voucher
03:08and $10,000 from Forbes. And we just hope to keep winning.
03:19Today we're feeling a little flat. Grant, you're very quiet. Just tired. Are you? Yeah.
03:25How are you feeling off the back of judging? You got pipped by half a point. It is what
03:29it is. There'll be prizes. There's 11 weeks of it. Just obviously, you know, the little
03:34bit of a down moment after not winning. Last night, Courtney and Grant from New South
03:38Wales came second by only half a point. It's hard to sort of get into it without not thinking
03:44about the results. If you're not winning, everyone else is like, we're all feeling the
03:49same. We're all feeling a bit down. I'm not going to lie about it. She had a meltdown
03:53this morning. Full blown meltdown. I don't know. I think I want to go home. I can't camp
04:01for another week. My back, it's literally killing me. Like, how are we supposed to put
04:08in like that many hours, you know, and then like go back to a tent? We can do a f***ing
04:14tell if we want to. I can't. We've got a contract. Oh, then we break it. They may want to break
04:22a contract, but nothing stops Monday's domain open for inspections, where they'll be checking
04:27out each other's rooms. Starting with last place and moving through to the winning room.
04:37Jessie and Paige, a carpenter and claims specialist from WA, came fifth with 18 and a half points.
04:44They are from house one, which is near the front gate.
04:51I think if we did finish, we would have probably had a great chance of being in the top three.
04:56I really think our bathroom is beautiful. I love everything about it.
05:03It's not finished, the poor things. And Jessie is a builder. They're on the block. You do
05:10everything that you can in your power to finish your room. And this is an unfinished room.
05:17Ah, I just love these tiles.
05:23I feel for them that they didn't get to finish.
05:27Because you know that this would be up there. It's just hard.
05:32What did they say about these guys that just they didn't finish?
05:35Yeah, they gave them a hard time about being a chippy and not finishing, I think.
05:39Yeah. But they should have finished. For a small space like this, they should have finished.
05:45Not great lighting to do your make up.
05:48I've got all the shadows that are created on my face from it.
05:55How do we get out of here, mate? Have we locked ourselves in?
05:58Jeez, should have got the cavity slider. You don't get those issues with cavity sliders, mate.
06:03Right on.
06:05Holla!
06:11Carly and Brad are from house four, which is down the back of the block.
06:14The hairdresser and electrician slash plumber from Queensland came fourth with 22 points.
06:21It wasn't actually the judge's comments that made me upset. I think it was just the fact that we
06:26couldn't finish it the way we wanted to and how we wanted to. Especially for the first week,
06:30you want to give it your all. And they'd be like, wow, okay, these guys really bought it.
06:34Even if it's not their style.
06:36If they continue this theme throughout the other rooms, this is going to be possibly
06:42the biggest disaster we've seen in 20 seasons.
06:51Oh my God.
06:55I really like it. Look at that.
06:59I'm so, oh my God. Hello.
07:03I'm obsessed.
07:08Oh my God, they've got black toilet paper. I know!
07:11I reckon I'm pretty unlucky to get harsh comments. Pretty rough.
07:15I'm not feeling nightclub, you know.
07:18And this is Kylie's artwork. I love this. I know, so do I. Yeah, I love that as well.
07:25She did that on like a Wednesday night at two in the morning. She's so talented, hey.
07:28With what the judges were saying and all the feedback, like I was expecting it to be...
07:33Like much more harsh. Much more on your face. Much more harsh.
07:36But they've got a bit of like timber to break it up. You've got like the tiles.
07:40It's actually really nice.
07:42I really understand her vision and her style.
07:47It's so luxe. I think my favourite part is definitely that shower screen though.
07:51Yeah. That curve. That's so nice. That curve's beautiful.
07:54They definitely have space to do two basins and still have adequate benchtop space.
08:01Yeah.
08:03I reckon this is just as good as ours, isn't it?
08:06There's just one thing though. What?
08:08Like if you did a poo, like how are you going to see it with that toilet paper?
08:13That's got to be brown.
08:15What? No.
08:17I didn't even say something serious.
08:19I'd be concerned if your poo was black, Christian.
08:22Yep. You're missing the point. You're like smearing... Anyway.
08:25Anyway, that's enough. Poo talk.
08:27Great job, guys. Enough poo talking.
08:30Oh, my goodness.
08:36Rikki and Hayden, a plumber and IT manager from Victoria, came third with 24 points.
08:43They bagged house three, which is also at the back end of the block.
08:48Definitely felt like it was a winning room and we were pretty disappointed coming third.
08:55We thought we were at least top two and we were hoping to take it out, to be fair.
09:00Colour choice is obviously something that we didn't understand.
09:04We didn't realise that it was the wrong choice.
09:07The colour palette is mismatched, so this is a little bit childish.
09:15Childish?
09:17It's a bit kindergarten. A bit harsh from Shaina.
09:23Wow. This is really nice.
09:26Beautiful.
09:28Yeah, this is really nice.
09:30You did a good job.
09:32I like their shower screens is what we wanted.
09:34Yeah.
09:35The sliding door. How much more spacious is that?
09:37I know.
09:38These boys were more prepared for that than we were.
09:42Are we the only ones without heater tower aisles?
09:45Ah! It's on.
09:47Is it always on?
09:49No.
09:50No, no, no. It's like, it's hot, hot.
09:52Yeah, well that's the whole point, because then you get out of the shower and your towel's hot.
09:56Oh my God.
09:59If this was white and if this was white maybe, I reckon that's like really cohesive.
10:04Yeah.
10:05It's nice.
10:06Good work boys. I freaking love this.
10:08Well done.
10:09I'd have that everywhere in my house.
10:11Nice work.
10:19Courtney and Grant, an events manager and landscape business manager from Sydney,
10:24missed out by only half a point on 28.
10:27They're in house two, located in the middle of the block.
10:33Half a point did hurt, yeah.
10:35Half a point hurt. I would have rather lost by 10 than lose by half.
10:38I mean, no.
10:39No, seriously, it hurts more.
10:41Because we were so close, but overall the feedback was really, really good.
10:47Oh, that feels spacious.
10:49This is Instagramable. Incredible materiality.
10:52Like these tiles are stunning.
10:55Wow.
10:57Yeah, this is beautiful. They've really utilised their space well.
11:00I love how they have space up here for a hand towel.
11:03That is just convenience.
11:06Yeah.
11:08These tiles.
11:09I feel like this room is like really, really luxe.
11:13Yeah.
11:14This is like five-star hotel spec.
11:16Oh, I've got a PowerPoint. Are you happy?
11:18PowerPoint, yep.
11:19Oh, I can't have a shower in that.
11:22It'll be cold by the time it hits you on the head.
11:24Exactly.
11:26So what if they get pulled up on paint, cork?
11:28Yep.
11:29Mate, the corking's mint.
11:32That's stiff.
11:35There's definitely no kindergarten stuff in here, mate.
11:38It's just adult stuff, you know?
11:40This is what adults do.
11:41This is where adults hang.
11:43We better get out of here then.
11:44If we're going to win, we're going to have to grow up this week.
11:46Give us a hand, mate. I can't get out of this thing.
11:49Grant Courtney, well done.
11:52Fish on.
11:54It's a beautiful life, oh, oh
11:57Trisha Damimi, an electrician and restaurant manager from Adelaide,
12:01brought a vacant home with 28 and a half points.
12:04Their home is near the entrance and the only one with two storeys.
12:09It's a beautiful life
12:12It feels incredible to win.
12:14I think it's a rewarding feeling.
12:17And to win, like, week one, it just shows that, you know,
12:20all the hard work that we went through and all the stress and all the anxiety,
12:24all the planning, it just...
12:26Not just that, the prizes.
12:28Yeah.
12:29You bring ten buyers in here,
12:31you're going to have the majority give the big tick.
12:34This is an incredible standard for week one.
12:41Let's see what a winner looks like.
12:42Winner, winner, chicken dinner.
12:46I do like the panelling.
12:48Yeah, I told you, hey.
12:52I wanted to walk in and hate it.
12:58This is probably double the size of the house.
13:01This is the first thing I thought was size.
13:03Massive.
13:04What's that thing?
13:07What is that?
13:08It's artwork, man.
13:09Yeah, right.
13:10Okay.
13:12I like the tiles. Tiles are cool.
13:14Yeah.
13:15It's very, like, pared back and simple.
13:18Wow, they killed it.
13:19Their tiles are beautiful.
13:21I know.
13:22And I love the bronze with it.
13:24Yeah.
13:25I think it's very, very cool.
13:27They've done a great job.
13:28They should be really proud of themselves.
13:32Well, that's it for week one bathrooms.
13:34An amazing job done by most of the blockheads.
13:37I dig it.
13:43Do you know what?
13:44Walking around and seeing everyone else's bathrooms
13:47made me feel so good about mine.
13:50Yeah, it's not finished, but it's really good.
13:53I love it.
13:54I love our bathroom.
13:56Just need to finish it.
13:57Imperfections and all.
14:00Coming up, Paige flies into a rage.
14:03I just feel like I'm dealing with a child sometimes.
14:07When Jessie refuses to go shopping with her.
14:10But no, I'm the crazy one.
14:12Now I'm getting frustrated
14:14because there's a flip-flopping fish that says one thing
14:17and does another.
14:20And Christian's in big, big trouble.
14:22You don't do that.
14:23Not cool at all.
14:24I know you don't.
14:25But then why do you do it?
14:26We've realised both our signatures have been forged.
14:31It's not alright.
14:32You're making it worse.
14:33It's so dumb.
14:36HE LAUGHS
14:41Welcome back to the block, Phillip Island,
14:44where we are transforming an old resort
14:46and building five luxurious holiday homes.
14:53If you look carefully, you'll see that today
14:56the site is dead as a doorknob.
15:00It's a public holiday in Victoria.
15:03That means no building and no trades on site.
15:06But there's still heaps for the blockheads to do.
15:09Planning, shopping and a stack of decisions to be made.
15:19First up, the most important thing to do
15:21is to check the domain website
15:23to see what room they're daring this week.
15:27Ah! It's bedroom week!
15:30What bedroom?
15:33Told you!
15:35That's alright. It's good.
15:40Christian and Mimi last night's winners aren't messing around.
15:44We are going to put a...
15:46Bed there.
15:47Bed here.
15:49Then we'll have a bedside table and a sconce here.
15:54Yep.
15:55But on this side we're going to have a pendant
15:57that goes down like that.
16:02Last week I suggested the couple spend $20,000 on their main bathroom.
16:07My suggested budget for this week is $12,000 for their guest bedroom.
16:12House 5 is the only two-storey home on the block
16:15and this week Christian and Mimi's bedroom
16:18will be on the ground floor in the back corner of their house.
16:21So that's a big, like, different texture.
16:23Yeah.
16:24Then we've got...
16:25This will be another texture and then this will be gyprock.
16:28Oh, yeah.
16:29Do you know what I mean?
16:30Yeah, so some sort of water product.
16:32Yeah.
16:33Yeah, we've come up with this idea to try and have three different textures
16:36where the bed's going to go.
16:37So we're hoping to have a fabric for, like, a soft touch
16:40and then get a timber element to match the sort of timber theme
16:43that we want to keep going throughout the house
16:45and then just normal, just a nice white wall.
16:47Love that, Mimi.
16:48I think it's going to look great.
16:50Came up with it myself.
16:54To build an entire home in 12 weeks
16:56there needs to be stacks of forward planning.
16:59Everything from the floor up.
17:02So all the blockheads drive down the road to flooring extra in cows.
17:12All teams need to pick their floor coverings for the whole house.
17:16That's carpet and hard floors for everywhere except the wet areas.
17:20Big decisions need to be made fast.
17:23Are you going to finish it this time or...?
17:25Oh!
17:26Come up with something better.
17:27No, don't.
17:28It's a bit chaotic with all the teams in flooring extra all at once
17:31but, yeah, we sort of worked our way around.
17:34Tanya, Rikki.
17:35Rikki, how are you?
17:36Very good.
17:37Hey, here we go.
17:38We're going to look at floors.
17:39We're going to look at floors for our entire house.
17:40Do you know what you're looking for?
17:42Not at all, no.
17:43So Tanya gave us some great advice
17:45that down the island it gets very cold for more than half the year.
17:49So she said carpet is often ran through most of the rooms in the bedrooms
17:54and so that was the advice we took and we ran with it.
17:57Do you do carpet in your bedrooms?
17:58No.
17:59No, what are you doing?
18:00The same floor.
18:01OK.
18:02You're going the same floor all the way?
18:03Yeah, all the way.
18:04Yep.
18:05We're from Cairns, we don't really know.
18:06And we don't do carpet because we're from Cairns
18:07so I thought something with rugs.
18:09Yeah.
18:10In here it gets very, very cold in winter.
18:12I do know this.
18:13Yeah.
18:14Look, we're from Cairns, we don't have carpet
18:16and I understand people down here like carpet because it gets cold and it's warm
18:21but for me because I'm doing so many different looks in different bedrooms
18:24I'm going to be swapping between dark carpet, light carpet
18:27and to me there's just nothing that ties it all in together
18:30so I had already sort of predetermined that I wanted to go with a timber flooring.
18:34OK.
18:35There you go.
18:36Perfect.
18:37Done.
18:38My original choice.
18:39Yes, thank you.
18:40Full circle.
18:41Thanks a lot.
18:42Have a great day.
18:44Thanks so much for your help.
18:45No worries.
18:46Have a good day.
18:47Hopefully I don't have to come back but no offence.
18:48Most of the teams now head off to the city to order kitchen appliances.
18:51A two hour drive is a great opportunity to plan their rooms.
18:55Two teams are doing kids rooms while the others are going with luxe guest bedrooms.
19:02Let's get a list going.
19:04Bunk beds.
19:06Teenage room.
19:08TV.
19:09PlayStation.
19:12And Benny's already placed the order with the line of 10.
19:14Perfect.
19:15Message him to invoice us.
19:17We need to know what our budget's like.
19:19We can use the same internals.
19:21Oh.
19:22And we'll just be like we don't want that colour for this room.
19:24Yeah.
19:25It hasn't stood our vision.
19:26Anything in particular you'd want to include in a kids room?
19:29I'll let you decide.
19:31You smashed it this week.
19:33Yeah but I don't have kids but this is one that I might need like some guidance.
19:37Unless I've got kids that you or me don't know about then I don't really have kids either.
19:42Art Page from WA is the only one going on her own.
19:45Because fiancé Jesse is back at the block doing demo.
19:55I said Jesse, it's just a couple of hours.
19:59And it's going to help our long term performance.
20:05It's just like grunting and just like sighing at me.
20:09I just feel like I'm dealing with a child sometimes.
20:14Like it's like I have so much to do.
20:17Like shut up.
20:18Everyone has a lot to do.
20:20Everyone has so much on their plate.
20:24And then he makes it seem like I'm the hard to deal with person.
20:32But no I'm the crazy one because now I'm getting frustrated because he's a flip-flopping fish
20:37that says one thing and does another.
20:41Sorry what happened to your grand approach of maybe talking to me this week.
20:47Maybe planning with me this week.
20:50I'm just at my wits end trying.
20:53I'm sick of the argument before the solution.
20:58Like it's not that hard Jesse.
21:07We rolled into E&S first impression pretty good.
21:11This is insane.
21:13I love it.
21:14That's unreal.
21:15E&S trading like gadget heaven.
21:20You might want to hear this part.
21:21You might want to hear what I just found out.
21:23Pick whatever you want.
21:24Anything.
21:25I've just spoken to the powers that be.
21:27Whatever Asko have.
21:29Alright let's go crazy.
21:31You've got an unlimited budget.
21:32Unlimited budget.
21:36Can I tell you a unique feature of this oven?
21:38Yeah let's hear it.
21:39You can have stage cooking in that.
21:41That means that you can have three different levels.
21:43Yeah.
21:44Three different temperatures.
21:45Wow.
21:46Beautiful.
21:47I'm sold.
21:48I love it.
21:49Oh.
21:50I'm actually just like blown away.
21:53Do you know what?
21:54I was fine by myself.
21:55I was fine.
21:57E&S was so amazing.
21:59It's all touch and swipe a little bit like your phone.
22:01And you just hit the start button.
22:03How good's that?
22:04It doesn't get any easier than that.
22:05You can get the flexi pad.
22:08And what you can do.
22:10Twist pad here.
22:11We just select that and you're up the power level.
22:14Bluetooth pans.
22:15Yes.
22:16So the actual pan is registering the heat of the base of the pan
22:20and that then gives you more control because you now know an exact temperature.
22:24Wherever you want to put your cookware on, you will sense it.
22:27Sorry.
22:28Actually, sorry.
22:29I don't want to interrupt.
22:30For what?
22:31You can move the pan wherever you want and that's where the heating goes.
22:37Concealed range hood which can actually pair with the cooktop itself.
22:41Yes.
22:42So you can actually program these to switch on when you walk up to them.
22:45You're kidding.
22:46When we say knock to open.
22:49You're kidding.
22:50Yeah, right.
22:55Oh, it's so nice.
22:57Tim escorted us to our Smeg Portofino range where he showed us, you know,
23:02a couple of options that we had for our oven and ranges.
23:05There's a number of bright colours available.
23:07Wow.
23:09Did you have a colour in mind from a design perspective?
23:12Do we be really brave and pick a colour that we wouldn't usually go for?
23:16I think I do like that.
23:17That one's definitely my favourite of the colours.
23:25We decided to be a bit bold and brave and we picked an olive green oven and range hood.
23:33We'll take it.
23:36Oh, God.
23:37We met Rob.
23:38Rob was excited to find that we were the winners of his barbecue.
23:41Yes.
23:42Oh, give me a hand.
23:43We're going backwards.
23:44We're going backwards.
23:48This barbecue was one of the prizes Christian and Mimi won at last week's first room judging.
23:54The $30,000 Wolf Barbecue from Air Australia is you guys.
23:59Congratulations.
24:00Thank you so much.
24:02Yep, Christian and Mimi won the barbecue.
24:05And guess who didn't?
24:09Do we have to bring out the Wolf Barbecue again?
24:11Yeah.
24:12I knew there was going to be a risk of me seeing it.
24:15It's like running into an ex at a party.
24:17You know there's a good chance.
24:20Do you reckon we can fit it in the range?
24:21Oh, man.
24:22It's 1.2 metres of cooking interface, dude.
24:24We'll drop the tray.
24:26Sure enough, there it was, the Wolf Barbecue.
24:29Look at it.
24:30This is what we could have had.
24:33Yeah, I can't say that I'm over it yet.
24:35He's going to need counselling again.
24:36Thanks.
24:37Cheers.
24:38Next time, mate, there'll be another one.
24:42Coming up.
24:43No, no, no, no, no, no, I'm not ready.
24:44Christian and Mimi meet block royalty, Steph and Gian.
24:48The biggest winners in block history.
24:52Ha, ha, ha.
24:54Plus their secrets to winning the block.
24:56The house is so consistent.
24:58The stone was the same everywhere, the same colour palette.
25:03Continuity is like the key word, I think.
25:10You too can get exclusive access to this week's rooms
25:13by heading to domains in the Know Hub.
25:16It's the go-to website where every Monday
25:18contestants can find my tips,
25:20plus all they need to know for another big week of renovations.
25:30With the block site shut down due to a public holiday,
25:32there's still a mountain of planning to do
25:35if they want to deliver their first guest bedrooms
25:37in just six and a half days.
25:43Last week's winners, Christian and Mimi, are hitting the road.
25:48Following him.
25:53So tonight we're going away with Scotty!
25:58That's right, as first week winners,
26:00Christian and Mimi get to experience the delights
26:02of a Ford getaway in the Mustang.
26:04Destination unknown.
26:08We don't know where we're going yet,
26:10but we get a dinner and we can sleep in an actual bed.
26:13Oh, my God!
26:15And with the temperature at 42 degrees,
26:17what could be better than a drive to Melbourne?
26:21Scotty messaged us to ask us to meet him at her location.
26:26Is there a sign that said Hampton this way?
26:29More like...
26:30Hmm.
26:32Mimi.
26:36And then we rock up and we see
26:38the beautiful facades of last season.
26:41And I started freaking out.
26:44Oh, my God, oh, my God, no!
26:46Oh, my God, no!
26:47Oh, my God, oh, my God, oh, my God!
26:49If it's Steph and John, I'll die!
26:51Ah!
26:53No, no, no, no, no, no!
26:54I'm not ready, I'm not ready!
26:56Come on, come out here quick, it's hot.
26:58Do we need to bring anything?
26:59No, bring yourself.
27:01Ah!
27:03Oh, wow!
27:04Hello!
27:05We see Steph and John and I was ecstatic
27:08because I'm such a fangirl.
27:12For tonight's Winners and Grinners dinner,
27:14I thought it would be nice
27:15if Block fangirl Mimi and husband Christian
27:18met up with last season's fan fave, Steph and John.
27:21Nice to meet you, Steph.
27:22Hey, John, how are you?
27:23Good, lovely to meet you.
27:24Nice to meet you.
27:25Likewise.
27:27See, we don't do individual hugs.
27:29We do group hugs.
27:31We do group.
27:32I'm not a big hugger, but last series,
27:35I couldn't help myself with these two.
27:37Got to do our traditional thing that we always do.
27:39Come here.
27:40We always hug.
27:41Come on, bring it in.
27:42Been together since they were 12 years old, these two.
27:45And now they've got $1.65 million.
27:48Go, beauties!
27:49Go, go, go!
27:51Steph and John smashed the Block auction last year.
27:53Coming first, they pocketed an extra $100,000,
27:57making a total of $1.75 million,
28:00the biggest win in Block history.
28:02And you got, what was the score?
28:0428.5.
28:05Not a bad way to start.
28:06Amazing result.
28:08Come through.
28:09It's not your house anymore, by the way.
28:12Oh, my God!
28:14Congrats, guys.
28:16Week one winners.
28:17Yeah, congrats!
28:18You see what the Block can do for you, right?
28:20Have a look at Gian.
28:21He's dripping in gold.
28:23Look at him.
28:24He's got the gold up there, the Rolex.
28:27He's like the Sultan of Brunei.
28:31I've got to catch a break.
28:34He's dripping in it.
28:36I was going to say, where are you sleeping?
28:38Outside, by the lake.
28:39Or next to each other.
28:40Nice.
28:41I love it.
28:42It is nice.
28:43Oh, mate.
28:44They're going to be very jealous of you tonight.
28:45I can tell you that much.
28:46Speaking of which, do you want to go upstairs and check it out?
28:48Yes.
28:49Yes, come through.
28:50Off you go.
28:51You need us too.
28:52I've said it before.
28:54Last series, Steph and Gian were the frontrunners
28:57with five room wins by utilising their signature beige,
29:01Japandi style of decoration.
29:04And I think what we did, what we tried to do,
29:07is definitely have, like, reoccurring motifs
29:09throughout the whole house.
29:10Yeah.
29:11So, like, the Taj Mahal stone, like you saw in the kitchen,
29:13and earthy tones.
29:15Yeah, I think that's probably what set us apart.
29:17That was the most recurring feedback.
29:19It was, the house is so consistent,
29:21and there was, like Steph said, the stone was the same everywhere.
29:24The same colour palette, so...
29:26The advice they gave us was to work on flow.
29:30You know, be consistent.
29:31Continuity is, like, the key word, I think.
29:34Wow, wow, wow.
29:36Yes, these are our kids' rooms.
29:38Yes.
29:39I want to be a kid.
29:42Yeah, we love the Taj Mahal.
29:43It's even more beautiful in person, like, honestly.
29:45Oh, thank you.
29:46Oh, my God.
29:47Like, we had to kind of work out on the Monday
29:49that we're having a hanging chair and get the engineering right,
29:52so it can be done quick, all those changes.
29:55I do think, though, seeing that house,
29:57it literally made us think,
29:58how are we going to create anything, like, as amazing as this?
30:02Oh, yeah, the steps out came straight in.
30:04Oh, it literally was just next level.
30:06What did you think?
30:07It was such a beautiful home.
30:08Unbelievable.
30:09Even more beautiful in person.
30:11Thanks, mate.
30:12And, honestly, like, I think me and John had to think,
30:14like, what's our biggest advice that we can give you?
30:17Really embody your style, you know?
30:18Like, we were known as the beige people.
30:20And, you know, the more and more people said that,
30:22the more that maybe they were saying that to be nasty or something.
30:25But I was, like, amazing.
30:27We're building a house that we really embody.
30:30You can just see how much work...
30:32How much planning.
30:33..and planning that they put into it.
30:35And that, you know, forward planning is so important.
30:39So we have a little gift for you,
30:41and it actually is this tray as well.
30:43I was just talking to you about continuity
30:45and how important it is to have that.
30:48Oh!
30:49Oh!
30:50More money!
30:51Sorry!
30:52You also have...
30:5310 Gs, baby!
30:56That is your 10 from Ford.
30:58Oh, look at that.
30:59But the board is not as exciting as that.
31:02But you do need this, and this is for you guys.
31:04Make sure when you go to your kitchen consult tomorrow,
31:06when you go to your tiles, get small samples of everything.
31:09Take it, put it on the board,
31:10take it to every single room that you do.
31:13Layer your concepts.
31:14You need to create...
31:15So, Steph, this is called a flat lay, is that right?
31:17Yes, it's called a flat lay.
31:18Layer your concepts and make sure
31:20that there is continuity between every single room.
31:22How important is winning and then coming to a dinner like this
31:27and getting this info?
31:28Priceless.
31:29It's priceless.
31:30It's priceless.
31:32So, as night falls on this charming house in Charming Street...
31:36Oh, the main course, ladies and gentlemen.
31:38Oh!
31:41It's time to tuck into some charming grub.
31:44Dig in.
31:45Tuck in.
31:46Can you get me me a fork, please?
31:48That's fine!
31:50And just be thankful we're not back at the block
31:53trying to do dinner with some charming chicken.
31:57Nothing to say.
32:00No, no way, bro.
32:09With a public holiday yesterday, the site was shut down.
32:12But today, Jesse from WA is keen to tackle his first guest bedroom.
32:17Morning.
32:18I feel good about doing a bedroom.
32:20Starting positive is key and it's going to be a fun week.
32:23Jesse is confident, but partner Paige is having doubts.
32:27I don't know why I'm feeling nervous about doing a bedroom this week.
32:32I think it, like, has hit me that I'm not an interior designer.
32:38Last week, Jesse and Paige presented an unfinished bathroom for judging
32:42and they came last.
32:44I don't know how to define my style verbally.
32:48All I know is Hamptons and...
32:52What's that one?
32:53Like, Art Deco and just...
32:55That's all I know.
32:56None of them fit me.
32:58Traditional with a modern twist or even modern with a traditional twist.
33:02Yeah.
33:03Do you think my room's a bit coastal grandmari?
33:05Because I think that...
33:07Yeah.
33:09OK.
33:13This week, Jesse and Paige's bedroom is at the rear of the house,
33:17across from their unfinished bathroom.
33:19They want to create a teenager's bedroom, coastal grandma style,
33:23with Graphico wallpaper, green-themed artwork,
33:26throw rug, pendant lights and sheer curtains on a large window.
33:31But before our blockheads can put their plans into action,
33:34first up is the regular morning site safety meeting.
33:37Stay away from the crane.
33:39Hard hats mandatory anywhere around and under the crane.
33:43It's always safety first on the block.
33:45And with that in mind,
33:46the blockheads can get stuck in their week two bedrooms.
33:50Courtney and Grant in house two have already locked in their design
33:53and their bedroom is located at the back of the house in the bedroom wing.
33:58This week we decided to do a kids' room.
34:00So we're thinking younger kids at 10 and under.
34:04I'm actually wearing the kind of colour scheme I'm thinking of.
34:08So what they hope to create in their kids' room
34:11is two beds that nestle in beneath an arched green niche wall,
34:14striped wallpaper, bedside tables either side and some stuffed toys.
34:19The wow piece for this week will be the wallpaper combination with the arch.
34:22The feature wall, yeah.
34:23And that should tie in with the curve that's in the bathroom.
34:25We still want it to be really, really cool and fun for kids,
34:28but we need lots of storage.
34:30We're trying to find that balance.
34:31Structurally, these guys are good, yeah?
34:33We need to go.
34:35With their bedroom plans in hand,
34:36Courtney and Grant need to hightail it to the city
34:39because while it's only week two,
34:41this year our contestants need to design
34:43their Kingsman and Cosentino kitchens five weeks in advance.
34:48One couple who are already in the city
34:50are last week's winners from House 5, Christian and Mimi,
34:53who got to enjoy a sleepover
34:55at Steph and Gian's winning home from last season.
34:59Wow.
35:00I'm not sure I've stayed anywhere nicer than this place before.
35:03Oh, my God.
35:04Two of the loveliest people we've ever met.
35:07Ever, ever, ever.
35:09So now we're on our way to our kitchen console,
35:12where we have to organise
35:14one of the most important rooms in the house.
35:17I think we can make this decision quick.
35:19It's the heart of the home, and they only get one crack at this.
35:23All decisions are locked in today.
35:25Good morning. Welcome to Cosentino.
35:27You're here for your Kingsman consultation?
35:29Yes, absolutely. The team's ready for you.
35:31Just head on through.
35:32Floor planning is very difficult
35:35because these selections and decisions that you're making
35:38they can't be changed.
35:40And what if, like, what I've decided,
35:43by then I don't like anymore?
35:45Christian and Mimi's kitchen will be located upstairs
35:48on the first floor, right next to their living and dining area.
35:52The kitchen is the heart of the home, and I hate kitchens.
35:55Considering that Mimi's a restaurant manager from Adelaide,
35:58you'd think she'd be an expert, right?
36:01There's something about them that just gives me anxiety,
36:04and it might be because I can't cook.
36:07And I don't know how, I don't know how to.
36:10Let's just work from our house.
36:11I just ignore that there's a kitchen there.
36:13I am planning on styling this kitchen green and brown.
36:18So delightful and scrumdiddlyumptious.
36:22Hey.
36:24This is the first time Christian's come to a consult with me.
36:27And he's never coming again.
36:29So this is our mood board.
36:31So the green is a bit different, but I think we can make it work.
36:34Then we'll make it work.
36:35I'm hating this green now.
36:36It just doesn't go with that board.
36:38It's just such a big clash.
36:40Well, that's a big turnaround.
36:42Even though Christian was the one who chose the green colour.
36:45That one's definitely my favourite of the colours.
36:48He's now having serious doubts.
36:51Such a big decision, and...
36:53And we were divided.
36:55Let's not choose a green.
36:57Which other one are you going to choose?
36:59That's so boring.
37:01Yeah, but it's not, it's, you can decorate stuff green.
37:04This still will tie in with the stone that we picked.
37:07I just couldn't see it tying in.
37:09Like, I was looking at our colour palette,
37:11and then I was looking at that,
37:12and I just could not piece the two together.
37:15It just clashes with, like, that colour palette
37:17is literally what we're basing our whole house on.
37:19Yes.
37:20But it's...
37:21More like a foresty green.
37:22Yeah, it's a foresty green.
37:23This is more like...
37:25Shrek.
37:27So while the Shrek-covered oven they've ordered
37:29is creating a nightmare,
37:32Claudia and Grant's design consult is more of a fairytale.
37:36Overall, we're going with a modern Mediterranean look.
37:39Yeah.
37:40We've got a pretty clear idea
37:41of what we want to do for the kitchen.
37:43We're going to have a really long island,
37:44it's going to be about four metres.
37:46And I really want marble to be a bit more of the feature.
37:48OK.
37:49I feel like the kitchen's the most important part of the house,
37:52especially in our home where you walk in
37:55and you're looking directly at it.
37:56We're thinking big island, stone island.
38:00Behind, we're going to have the timber cupboards
38:02and then all of our Asco appliances.
38:05And we've also picked out our cabinetry and then handles.
38:09We had the timber selected,
38:10we had all the handles and the hardware
38:12and it was just a matter of picking the right stone.
38:15So this is the San Angelo in the full piece.
38:17I think it is, yeah, maybe a bit too grey.
38:20Too grey.
38:21I like that one.
38:22This one here.
38:23Lilac.
38:24It was hard because we don't normally go to the appointments together.
38:27What about this?
38:28You want to do a bit of a green?
38:29No, is that green?
38:30Definitely not.
38:31Is it going to be too much or is it exciting enough?
38:33I just genuinely liked that purple and white piece of stone.
38:35We got no purple in the house.
38:37I feel like the stone doesn't need to match anything there.
38:40What are you thinking?
38:42Meanwhile, House 5 Newlyweds Christian and Mimi
38:45are still struggling to integrate
38:47their Shrek green-inspired colour scheme.
38:50You want to elevate the kitchen, you know?
38:54I think it was just the overwhelming amount
38:56of different textures and colours
38:58that threw my feelings towards this kitchen off.
39:02I just can't see it working.
39:04You spiralled, like, bad,
39:07therefore that made me doubt myself.
39:11So you're now trying to talk me out of what I want?
39:14Well, you're making me settle with what you want.
39:16So it's not going to work?
39:18That's why we need to talk about it.
39:20No-one's going to agree with anyone.
39:24And then I cried.
39:28I needed it.
39:35Christian?
39:37It was too much, too many, it was like...
39:43OK, guys, let's move, let's get rid of some colours,
39:46let's get rid of some finishes.
39:48And then that's when they said,
39:50all right, why don't you isolate your favourite handle,
39:52isolate your favourite cupboard, isolate your favourite timber.
39:54What we were going to be looking at is this,
39:57with this, and with more of those tones there.
40:00So picture those colours together.
40:03That's when we looked at it and said, oh, my God, this is our kitchen.
40:06That's when you looked at it,
40:07cos you were the one that didn't like the green oven,
40:09and I just trusted my gut, I'm like, this is what we're doing,
40:12it has so much potential, we're going to make it work.
40:15All right, I'm happy, I'm 100% happier now.
40:18Before, I was like...
40:20It was a very overwhelming day,
40:24and I didn't like it one bit.
40:35It's day two of guest bedroom week,
40:37and all the teams are trying to catch up
40:39after a public holiday yesterday.
40:46Best mates from Victoria, Ricky and Hayden,
40:48have been full steam ahead,
40:50working hard doing demo and online shopping for their kids' room.
40:54We've got walls measured up,
40:57hopefully getting some Truecore walls made up this afternoon,
41:01hopefully delivered by tomorrow morning.
41:03The boys are working pretty hard to get some flooring down.
41:07Plan is to have floor down ready for walls today,
41:10so we're running out of time, but we're away.
41:13Got a heap of demo done this morning, so they've got a clear slate,
41:16so just got to get that floor down and away we go.
41:18Ricky and Hayden's house three
41:20is tucked away at the back corner of the block,
41:22and their kids' bedroom is at the back of the home in the bedroom wing.
41:26The whole room is designed around the wall art.
41:29We chose the map of the world,
41:31which has every animal in the world on it, 1,642 animals.
41:34If we can't make this happen, we ain't winning this week.
41:37This is make or break.
41:38So the boys' kids' bedroom will feature a huge Grafico world map.
41:42There'll also be a bunk bed in the corner,
41:44a TV on the wall and a beanbag on the floor.
41:49Kylie and Brad are in house four.
41:51Their bedroom is at the back,
41:52across the hall from their infamous bathroom.
41:57Last week, they created a black bathroom,
41:59which got savaged by the judges.
42:02The only thing that I like about this room is the skylight,
42:05because when I'm looking up,
42:07I don't have to see anything else in this room.
42:11But for her guest bedroom this week,
42:13our Dark Queen wants to buck that trend.
42:16I don't want it to be too black,
42:18so I was sort of thinking, like, black curtains, black lighting,
42:21black linen on the bed, so I think that's enough.
42:24Hey, Kylie.
42:25First, Kylie will kick off with a home pro by DIY Blinds console.
42:30Bedroom one. Bedroom one.
42:33Awesome. Yes.
42:34Now, we had a chance to speak last week. Yes.
42:37So, Janice done a little bit of work with our supplies,
42:40looking for some black sheers. Lovely.
42:43Because we know what you're into. Lovely.
42:46Look, I really love the ones that ended up in the bathroom.
42:50So I was actually thinking of doing, like, a double layer,
42:55doing a really white sheer, completely see-through,
42:58and then a black... Block out?
43:00Yeah, over the top.
43:01And, like, texture, it's definitely going to be softened
43:05and then there'll just be black features,
43:07and then I'll soften with everything else.
43:09So more whites, we're doing timber flooring,
43:11I'll add some nice rugs to warm it up.
43:13The main feature will be a 3D bedhead with LED strip lighting,
43:18artwork on the wall, soft pastel tones on a throw rug and pillows,
43:22plus blackout blinds with a sheer white curtain.
43:26But still sort of pairs in because it's directly across
43:29from the bathroom we've just done,
43:30so I still want the colour scheme to sort of flow through
43:33but I'm peeling back the black a little,
43:36just to sort of see how the judges feel about it.
43:39Down the road in House 1,
43:41Paige is distracted by the pressure
43:43of designing this week's guest bedroom.
43:45Hello!
43:52Jessie and Paige have spent most of the day
43:54locked down in the lunchroom, shopping online for bedroom stuff.
43:59This is miserable.
44:01Like, I'm having a miserable day.
44:04I just hated everything.
44:06And I was trying to really stick within budget and parameters
44:09and that's what was eating me up as well.
44:11The fact that everything that I liked was not on Blockbox
44:16and we're out of our budget.
44:18Shopping is s***.
44:20I should have been at half the time.
44:23Do they have any other beds that interest you?
44:25Like, what's the point though?
44:28Paige was finding it a bit hard this morning,
44:30couldn't really find anything that kind of suited us.
44:32This is making me miserable.
44:34Key is being clear-minded.
44:35She loves the shops in town here.
44:37Bow, bow, bow, bow, bow, bow, bow, bow.
44:40As Confucius says,
44:42if you don't succeed online, then try again at your local shops.
44:47Today is just a write-off.
44:49It's just a write-off for shopping.
44:51Shopping is not in my bones today.
44:56Hello.
44:57I've been struggling.
44:59This is a beautiful colour.
45:02I love stuff like this.
45:04I might hold two of these if that's okay.
45:07Hold two of these and hold this.
45:09This is why we shop locally.
45:11It is so much easier.
45:12Oh, it is easier.
45:13It's so easy.
45:14You guys have a great time.
45:15Much, much easier.
45:16Coming back to me today.
45:17It's coming back.
45:18Things are happening.
45:22Things are happening up here.
45:24I'm a bit of a hothead,
45:26if no one has picked that up yet.
45:28I go 0 to 100 really, really quick,
45:30but I also go from 100 to 0 very quick
45:33because I don't want to just be consistently angry.
45:38You never know what you're getting.
45:44Thank you, guys.
45:47Oh, there's a whistle.
45:48One more for good luck.
45:51Meanwhile, back at the block,
45:53fiancé Jesse is determined to keep the positive vibes going.
45:57I stayed in the lunchroom with H,
45:59but he would be on the phone.
46:00And then I need two bunk beds.
46:03And I'd be on the phone.
46:04Yeah, the mattress, the two doonas, the two king-size.
46:08I knew that I had to really try and step up creative-wise.
46:12Thank you, mate. Appreciate it.
46:14We saw that the bed apparently wasn't in stock
46:16and I actually managed to get it,
46:17so we're picking that up tomorrow.
46:19There was two bedside tables which weren't on Block Bucks,
46:23but we got a really good discount.
46:25Positive signs.
46:26Start of the week. I'm loving it.
46:27I'm really feeling good.
46:30Hello?
46:31Hey, honey. How are you?
46:33I'm good. How are you?
46:34Good. Got the bed.
46:36You got the bed?
46:37Yeah. We're picking it up tomorrow.
46:39Oh, my God!
46:41Yeah.
46:42Honey, I'm so impressed.
46:44I've ordered the... I've got the bed pickup from Freedom.
46:47Yes.
46:48We've got the... I've ordered through the block shop
46:50the two bedside tables, which we have to pay for,
46:52and I've ordered everything from 40 Wings for delivery Saturday.
46:55Can we talk about little sexy man Jesse
46:58swooping in and saving the day?
47:01I love seeing a man in charge.
47:05It's beautiful.
47:09Is Jesse around?
47:11He's sorting s*** out today.
47:13That's good.
47:14He's a big man.
47:16Hi.
47:18Oh!
47:22Today's been a good day.
47:23It has been, but it hasn't at the same time.
47:26How much better have I been?
47:28You've been so f***ing sexy.
47:33I wish we went in a tent.
47:35It's a beautiful day.
47:40All that I'm hearing from you
47:43is white noise, white noise.
47:46For the public holiday yesterday, no work was done on site.
47:50So today, all the trainees have been working hard
47:53to get their subclause down and approved.
47:56For this week's kids' bedroom, over at House 3,
47:59Ricky's excited about the progress of their build.
48:02Boys are smashing it.
48:04We've got a heap of demo done this morning.
48:07Boren is not too far away.
48:10Hopefully by tomorrow, Arvo,
48:12we'll have some beautiful plastered walls.
48:14Let's go. No more sleeping next to the swamp.
48:17Boys are back in business.
48:19Let's go.
48:21All the teams are making great progress on their demo and flooring,
48:24except for House 5.
48:27After taking out the win for their week one bathroom,
48:30it's Christian and Mehmet!
48:33They got to stay overnight
48:35at Steph and Jian's auction-winning home
48:38and have had a busy morning doing their kitchen consult.
48:43Leaving their builder, Daniel, to hold the fort.
48:46We're building via text message at the moment.
48:51Urgent thing is I need a demo permit,
48:54so he's getting on to that right now.
48:58They need to demo a space for their bedroom,
49:01which is on the ground floor of the only two-storey house on the block.
49:05Until the permit comes through, we can't do a thing.
49:07Right now I'm sipping on some water
49:09and waiting for Dan to walk over
49:11and say we've got the all clear to demo.
49:13Here we go. Nothing come through.
49:16I haven't received any of it. Have you?
49:18Christian said he's done it and sent it through.
49:21But Christian's cut some corners
49:23and he's gone and done a bad, bad thing.
49:27This demolition permit, not great.
49:31What was that?
49:33Not mine or Dan's signature.
49:35Kylie's just got it up on the habitac
49:38and we've realised both our signatures have been forged
49:41by Christian.
49:43Not ideal.
49:45That's just a no.
49:47The purpose of the demolition permit
49:49is just so everyone on site knows
49:51what these guys are doing.
49:53Do we need to get barricades?
49:55Do we need to have extra OH&S in there?
49:57They're a must on our site
49:59because we have five houses going at once.
50:01So to sign off on these,
50:03fraudulently, is just a no.
50:05So we'll have a little chat to him when he comes back.
50:11Hello.
50:13Hello, hello.
50:15G'day, Dan. How you going?
50:17So you obviously know why I'm coming to have a chat.
50:19Yeah, I was coming to find you, to be honest.
50:21So the situation was
50:23our builder called me in the morning,
50:25goes, I need a demo permit.
50:27We were literally ready to jump in the car
50:29to go to our kitchen appointment
50:31and I was like...
50:33I know it was wrong.
50:35Not cool, man.
50:37You don't do that.
50:39I know you don't.
50:41But then why did you do it?
50:43If I knew, I would have shut that down straight away.
50:45That doesn't sit right with me at all.
50:47I've been doing this for 11 series.
50:49Yep.
50:51No one's ever used my signature.
50:53So there's going to be a penalty.
50:55Dan told me that tomorrow morning
50:57I will have to have a
50:59one hour coffee break at the McCafe
51:01for an hour before the day starts.
51:03By trying to save time,
51:05you actually added more time.
51:07It was just literally the heat of the moment.
51:09We were literally about to drive to our appointment.
51:11There was so much going on.
51:13There's no excuses.
51:15You just don't do that.
51:17I made a boo-boo today.
51:19It was a big boo-boo.
51:21It was a silly boo-boo.
51:23I'm embarrassed about it. It won't happen again.
51:25That's so childish, man.
51:27Childish? How's it childish?
51:29Who does that?
51:31It's not childish. It's stupid.
51:33I'm not going to defend Christian
51:35no matter what he does.
51:37If it's wrong, it's wrong.
51:39That just did not sit right with me at all.
51:41It's not alright.
51:43You're making it worse.
51:45You never discuss anything with me.
51:47You know what we'll do? We'll sit down at McCafe.
51:49We've got this to plan anyway to see how it's going to get finished.
51:51The fact that he didn't even
51:53consult with me about it.
51:55Because if he told me about it, I'd be like,
51:57no, no, no, you can't do that.
51:59It's so dumb.
52:01I know it's dumb.
52:03It just upset me because I thought it was just
52:05embarrassing.
52:07It's annoying.
52:09There's a lot going on.
52:11It's only week two.
52:13Tomorrow night.
52:15Why can't you just listen to me?
52:17First guest bedroom week kicks off.
52:19There's everything including
52:21the most amazing kitchen sink.
52:23That is incredible.
52:25Christian's in more hot water.
52:27You've got to use the proper silver tape for it.
52:29You've got to do things right, mate.
52:31We are not going to finish this room.
52:35And Paige drops a bombshell.
52:37And that's why I'm probably not going to be here
52:39as of tomorrow.
52:41If you're listening to this, I think you should
52:43actually start looking for replacements.
