00:00Joining us in the studio today is the skincare queen, Hope Goldman.
00:10You really are the American dream.
00:12Reputation is everything.
00:14Hi Elizabeth, welcome.
00:16Skincare, it's such an intriguing film with a unique premise.
00:20Can you please tell us a little bit about what initially attracted you to this project?
00:26I love this lead character, Hope Goldman, in skincare.
00:30She is a woman who is being sort of steamrolled by progress, wants to stay relevant, is in
00:37the pressure cooker of LA, in the beauty industry, and is paranoid that things are going sideways.
00:45And that paranoia drives her to make terrible decisions with some really insane and violent
00:53consequences.
00:54Yes.
00:55Yes.
00:56I watched it last night.
00:57Loved it.
00:58Loved the movie.
00:59And I think skincare is sort of like a blend between comedy, you've got drama, you've got
01:04mystery.
01:05So how did you as an actress balance these different tones while maintaining the core
01:10of the story?
01:12I felt like Hope was, she is a larger than life character.
01:18So I feel like for me, that's a little bit where the comedy came from.
01:22She is, she's so self-involved, right?
01:25This is not a woman, she's actually very lonely.
01:29There are not a lot of people that she counts on.
01:31She's a woman who's had to fight for everything she has in life, do it all herself, build
01:36her empire.
01:37And now she is being attacked from all sides and that empire is about to crumble.
01:42And really it's her identity is at stake.
01:45What would you do?
01:47I just loved asking myself that question.
01:49What would you do if everything that you worked for was about to be taken away from you?
01:54And you felt like you had no one standing up for you.
01:57I mean, it's such a vulnerable feeling and I felt like the audience, a lot of the audience
02:03would be able to relate to that.
02:05Absolutely.
02:06Absolutely.
02:07And Elizabeth, given the film's focus on skincare, you've got gorgeous skin by the way, but what's
02:12your personal skincare routine like?
02:15I mean, do you have any favorite products?
02:17You got any tips?
02:19Well, my tips are pretty basic in terms of sleep and hydration are the number one thing
02:25to have great skin.
02:27And then I think you have to find products that work for you.
02:30I love Number 7 products.
02:32I'm a big fan of their Future Renew product line.
02:35They have an eye serum that I use every night.
02:39I layer that under everything.
02:44You can wear it during the day too.
02:47And then I just try and stay out of the sun.
02:49That's a big thing too, right?
02:50Like sunscreen, just staying out of the sun has really helped me and my skin stay youthful
02:57looking as long as I am.
02:59I have learned to use that SPF and it makes such a big difference.
03:02But listen, if you could create your own skincare product, what would it be and why?
03:10You know what?
03:13I would love to create something.
03:18I feel like, well, I have two things in my mind right now.
03:21I want to create something wild.
03:23Like I want to put like leeches or like algae or something on your skin, something really
03:28natural that we haven't figured out yet that is the real fountain of youth that's probably
03:33in the ocean, like in some seaweed or something.
03:37I would want to try that mostly because I feel like those trendy things like take off
03:41so easily and it would be very Instagrammable because one of the things my character comes
03:46to learn is that she doesn't have things that are like cool, hip, fun, new and Instagrammable
03:52in this film.
03:53And that's probably why she's losing the race to be the best.
03:57So that's one side of it.
03:59But then the other side of it is I just want to fill in wrinkles and I don't want to, I
04:04want to do it with something that's not needle related.
04:07Oh, those needles.
04:09We don't like those needles.
04:11Elizabeth, I hope Goldman, your character, faces a lot of challenges from her rival,
04:17Ángel Vergara.
04:18I was working with Luis Gerardo Méndez and how did you develop this on-screen rivalry?
04:25So Luis and I have known each other for a long time.
04:28He's actually in Charlie's Angels.
04:29I hired him to be in that film.
04:32I loved him.
04:33I watched his shows, even the Spanish language, Mexican.
04:38He's such a big star in Mexico.
04:40And I mean, he's one of my dearest buddies.
04:44I literally just ran into him in Paris at the Olympics.
04:47We were taking photos together, like doing videos for this movie.
04:51I mean, he is the dearest human being.
04:54I couldn't love someone more like Luis.
04:58Oh, yes, yes.
05:00We love him in the Latino community.
05:02He's such a big star.
05:03We love him so much, Luis Gerardo Méndez.
05:05And finally, Elizabeth, if you could describe skincare in three words, what would they be?
05:13Aged gracefully.
05:15Water.
