00:00Now, Russian prisoners of war captured during Ukraine's lightning offensive into Kursk in
00:05Russia have spoken to the press about why they surrendered. One prisoner of war telling
00:10AFP that he and others were, quote, simply abandoned by their command when Ukrainian
00:15troops appeared. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called these men his exchange
00:20fund, hoping they can be quickly swapped for some of the 6,500 or so Ukrainian soldiers
00:26that Moscow says it is currently holding. Here's the deputy head of that facility speaking
00:32on Tuesday.
00:36When the first ones arrived, they were scared of some fairy tales about what would happen
00:42to them in captivity. They were very scared, afraid of everything. Then they stayed with
00:49us for a couple of days, realised that they were safe and secure, treated like human beings,
00:56provided with everything. Then they came to life, their psychological state stabilised.
