00:00There was this peanut butter hair mask.
00:03Wait, what?
00:06I don't know, right?
00:07It was supposed to make your hair soft.
00:08I literally took a whole jar of peanut butter
00:10and put it on my hair.
00:16Hi, everyone.
00:16Welcome back to Season 4, Episode 4 of Art of Beauty.
00:21Today, I have the beautiful Calista with me.
00:23Hello.
00:24I'm so intrigued by your red hair, by the way.
00:27And today's topic, yeah, today's topic,
00:29we'll be talking all about trends and hacks,
00:31beauty trends and hacks.
00:32And I'm sure you've come across quite a lot
00:35being on social media.
00:37Yes.
00:37I mean, there's always like the trend of the season, right?
00:41Like something becomes a trend for a while
00:42and then it kind of dies off or it lasts.
00:46There's two ways about it.
00:47So still looking for certain trends.
00:49Yeah, I feel like there are so many like I cannot keep up.
00:53And but do you think like, you know,
00:55like does social media actually dictate what trends are?
00:58Do you think like beauty brands kind of rely on social media
01:02and what people do on social media?
01:05I feel like in 2024, yes, definitely.
01:08I feel like everything is dictated by social media.
01:10Like that's why social media stars are so big, right?
01:13They're literally the ones driving the trends
01:14and like sometimes deciding on like what the new colors are
01:19or like the new innovative like products are.
01:21So I definitely think brands are watching to see what trends are.
01:26Yeah, because I came across this one article.
01:28It was all about like how makeup trends are all like named after food.
01:33Like the latte, eyes, like strawberry, girl look or something.
01:39And I was like, these are all just kind of like normal everyday looks
01:42but then people call it all these funny names.
01:44Because they look so delicious.
01:46They look so delicious.
01:47But like why are they all like food related, right?
01:49It's true though.
01:50Like I never realized until you said it but...
01:52Like glazed donut nails.
01:54You know Hailey Bieber's like being a man.
01:55Like when they used to do the baking.
01:57Oh yeah, like let's bake our face.
02:00Yeah, like bake a cake or a tea.
02:02Yeah, that's actually true.
02:04Huh?
02:04Interesting.
02:05And then like do you see there was one like they would like dip like a broccoli
02:09and like bronzer or something.
02:10And then the freckles.
02:12I was like wait, how come I never thought of that?
02:14But it looks really good.
02:15Like don't you think?
02:16Okay, so I feel like beauty trends are like...
02:19It's just like our body image problems as well, right?
02:23You always want what you don't have.
02:24Like I have a lot of freckles and I've never really liked my freckles
02:27but then there are people on social media like putting freckles on.
02:30So it's like...
02:32Yeah, you want what you don't have.
02:34You don't want what you have.
02:35It's just like a constant thing.
02:37And like I think one that was one of the like funniest ones is like the...
02:41Have you seen like the like strawberry look where they kind of make themselves look like a little like...
02:47You know when you're cold and you have like a red nose?
02:51Yes, like the cold girl or something.
02:53Some people call it the cold girl icy look or something.
02:57I was like, wow, people want to look like that.
03:00So like there's two different ones I keep seeing now, right?
03:03One is the sun-kissed blusher where it's kind of like a line across the face.
03:07And then the winter one is like the most of the blusher is on the nose, not really on the cheeks.
03:12I mean it kind of looks cute but as with every makeup trend, I guess it depends on your face.
03:18Some people can pull off different looks, right?
03:19Right, right.
03:20Have you tried any like beauty hacks or trends that have worked for you?
03:24The sun-kissed blusher is...
03:25Really?
03:26...a kind of fave. Like I always make sure to put it across my nose now.
03:29Kind of like a little bit sunburned like...
03:31Yes.
03:32Blush or bronzer do you like to put on there?
03:34Blush.
03:35Blush?
03:35Yeah.
03:35But what kind of blush girl are you? Like more of a pinky blush?
03:38Pinky.
03:39You are? Okay.
03:40I've always been like a neutral blush kind of girl.
03:44Like I always go for like the tan, brownie, apricot vibes.
03:48Well, I'm...
03:49My...
03:50Have you done the colour theory thing?
03:51I have not.
03:52Okay, so I'm a cool summer.
03:54So like pinks work really well.
03:56I can't use anything orangey or like too bronze.
03:59It just doesn't look natural.
04:00Mm-hmm.
04:01So yeah, it's definitely like the very bright pinks or the muted pinks for me.
04:05Oh, yeah.
04:05Yeah.
04:06Like very girlish, milky colours. I love that.
04:08I mean, I've tried like experimenting this year more with like cooler pinks.
04:11I feel like it's the it colour for blush now.
04:14Everybody's doing that like cool toned like baby pink on the cheeks.
04:18And honestly, I have to say it's like really refreshing and it's really like youthful.
04:22Like it gives you this really innocent look to it, which I kind of love
04:25because I've always been into like that whole bronzy like sculpted face.
04:28And now I'm like, well, not today because I have like smokey eyes.
04:32But most of the time like I'll try and do like the clean girl look
04:35and it's just so pretty with like cool toned blush.
04:38I feel like now it's very much about the youthful look.
04:41Like I feel like when you sculpt too much, you look older, more mature, right?
04:45Yeah, definitely.
04:46But now it's definitely about like the youthful kind of glow.
04:49I mean, even if you like take it back to like music, like K-pop stuff, right?
04:52All those songs are all about like, oh, forever young.
04:55Oh, youth this and that.
04:57So I feel like that's the current trend.
04:58Yeah, which I kind of like. I like that.
05:00Like we're not trying to look older.
05:01We're always trying to look younger.
05:03Because I feel like it was a time in 2016 maybe.
05:06Remember like this block brows everybody was doing?
05:09Like I'm now I'm guilty of that.
05:11Like I used to do it like really like strong.
05:14Like it was almost so boxing.
05:15And when I look at old pictures, I'm like, how is it even a trend?
05:18Like why was it even a thing?
05:20And we were like, oh, brows are fleek.
05:23Yeah, and then the arched ones we used to do.
05:25Yeah, I don't know.
05:26Like brows change your face so much.
05:29And that's also a thing though.
05:31Like the brow trend also changes so fast.
05:33There's also the straight brows.
05:35Everybody wanted straight brows.
05:37Yeah, now it's just I don't really see anyone doing anything with the brows.
05:40I feel like now the brows are more kind of just like fluffed out.
05:43Like kind of like whatever your shape is.
05:45Just kind of just with gel not really filled in kind of like, you know,
05:49Yeah, a little bit more bushy than like bushy natural.
05:53Yeah, I kind of like where the makeup trends are right now.
05:56I hope it doesn't change too much.
05:58Yeah, it's not too hard to follow right now.
06:00I feel yeah, I feel like but then again it changes so so often is so frequent.
06:05Like just by a celebrity doing something the next thing everybody wants to do it.
06:09Like the Sabrina Carpenter blush.
06:11Oh, I haven't tried that.
06:12Okay, so the Sabrina Carpenter blush apparently her makeup artist kind of leaked it.
06:16Apparently, it's like super bright on the apples of the cheeks.
06:19And then she adds like a more bronzy color on the bottom.
06:23So she also always looks very sun-kissed.
06:25Right.
06:25Yeah, and that's she has that.
06:27Like in the middle of the face?
06:28Like underneath the cheeks.
06:30The apples of the cheeks.
06:31Wow, I haven't tried that.
06:32Why haven't I tried that?
06:33Because I've always tried like bronzer and then like blush
06:36but never like blush and like a deeper tone.
06:39Oh, I feel like that will work on like some people's faces,
06:44but not everyone.
06:44I feel like I feel like if you've got a very pronounced like cheek.
06:48Yeah, cheeks and it will probably work like for me.
06:51It's kind of like flat.
06:52So I don't think but maybe would like kind of help me like,
06:56you know help with the appearance of like fuller cheeks.
06:58I feel like because Sabrina is like big on that, you know, very youthful like playful.
07:02Yeah, young vibe.
07:05So they are I'm going to try that out.
07:06Like you guys know I'm on Instagram.
07:10I know but like yeah, we're talking about like social media.
07:13Have you tried any hacks that have worked for you?
07:16Like I know people do like the contour with the spoon for example.
07:19I've never done that.
07:21I feel like it's like the weirdest things you see on TikTok especially.
07:25I'm not big on TikTok because I'm not usually active there.
07:28I'm always on Instagram.
07:29Oh, like I feel like you get the weirdest stuff on TikTok.
07:31So sometimes I'm like trying to find trouble.
07:33I'm like, okay, I'll go on TikTok to see like what stuff I can like.
07:35What's going on?
07:37I don't know.
07:39Weirdest trends I've tried that worked.
07:40I feel like I'm trying one right now and I get the concept.
07:44I'm just not very good at it yet.
07:46So I've got like hooded eyes, right?
07:47Me too.
07:48So apparently like if you draw your liner like straight instead of trying to create a cat eye,
07:54it gives you like a more natural cat eye and I kind of tried it.
07:57It does work.
07:59I just haven't gotten it down yet.
08:00Like it's not perfect yet.
08:01So like draw it straight instead of like it like at an angle?
08:05Kind of winging it just like straight across.
08:08I feel like that's so unnatural for me, right?
08:10I don't know, but my eyes are really hooded.
08:12So when I do do like winged liner, it does kind of look a bit weird.
08:15Sometimes like you can kind of see the ink.
08:17Yeah.
08:18Oh, yeah, I get what you mean.
08:19I don't know.
08:19I feel like it works.
08:21But does it lift the eye though if you do it straight that way?
08:24Apparently.
08:26Okay, when I get it down, I'll let you know.
08:28Okay, cool, cool.
08:29I can see how it would work, right?
08:31Yeah.
08:32I've seen one where like they take like an eyeliner and they
08:36like put it there and they just like, you know, yeah, they're
08:41like, oh, get the perfect wing with like, yeah, I can't do
08:46that, but it's kind of scary.
08:48It's like it depends on your eyes, right?
08:50Like, okay, for me, my eyes are very different, like one is
08:53like slightly like higher than the other.
08:55So like if I do that, it's going to look nice on one eye, but
09:00not together.
09:00Right, right.
09:02Yeah, so I feel like a lot of these trends are kind of like
09:04will only work on some people.
09:06I think if you are, you have a very symmetrical face or if
09:08you're really, really young and you have like a really big
09:10bubbly eyes, maybe it'll work for you.
09:12So I guess it's all like kind of trial and error, but have
09:15there been any like maybe viral trends that have definitely
09:20failed like so far for me?
09:23Yeah, I think overlining the lips.
09:27Really?
09:28You know how Kylie used to do that?
09:30Yeah, like I've got kind of thin lips, but overlining it.
09:35I don't know.
09:35Maybe it's just I'm not used to it, but I just did not like
09:38that look.
09:38It looks so strange on me.
09:40I was like, no, it's fine.
09:41I'll live with these.
09:42Yeah, I feel like in pictures, maybe like they would work,
09:46right? When you can like filter it, blur it out a bit maybe.
09:49Yeah, like in person, maybe it would be a little off.
09:51I've tried it, but then again, I have like already quite plump
09:55lips, so like I've tried it and it literally looks like half
09:57my face is just my mouth.
09:59So I was like, you know what?
09:59Never mind.
10:00Maybe it's not for me, but I have seen some people who like
10:04really overline their lips and it literally like it's quite
10:07distracting when I speak to them and I'm just looking at
10:10their lips the whole time like, oh, yeah.
10:11Okay, I feel like again, it's also like there is such a thing
10:16as overdoing it.
10:17Like if you've already got like big lips, you probably don't
10:20want to like do more, but then again, when you've got like
10:23small lips, if you overline it.
10:25We always want what we can.
10:27Yeah, it's so difficult.
10:29Like some people can pull off any trend, like I'm not one
10:32of those people.
10:32Yeah, me too.
10:33Me too.
10:34I wish I could because I would love to try every single trend
10:37on Earth, honestly.
10:39But yeah, how do you feel about like the rapid like rise and
10:42fall of these trends?
10:43Like yeah, we mentioned that, you know, there are so many
10:45happening and sometimes simultaneously happening, not just
10:49with beauty, but also like skincare, hair care even, like
10:52people put like weird stuff in their hair.
10:55Yeah, I've definitely tried a few of those.
10:57Oh, really?
10:58Yeah, this was like quite a few years ago.
11:01There was this peanut butter hair mask.
11:05Wait, what?
11:08I don't know, right?
11:08It was supposed to make your hair soft.
11:10I literally took a whole jar of peanut butter and put it on
11:12my hair.
11:13It was very messy and it didn't do anything.
11:16So it was not worth it.
11:17Wait, what?
11:18Like people said it would like make your hair soft?
11:20Yeah.
11:21Like you just smeared like peanut butter all over your hair.
11:24Like how you apply a hair mask, but with peanut butter.
11:27That must have taken a long time to get out.
11:29It took a long time to get on and to get out and it was a
11:34waste of peanut butter.
11:36So yeah, some trends don't need to be tried.
11:38I think.
11:39Who comes up with these?
11:40Like who actually like?
11:42Honestly, sometimes I feel like it's a prank.
11:43Like there must be someone.
11:44It's just a joke, guys.
11:45I mean like I bet if I put this online and it goes viral,
11:49people will try it.
11:49And I can laugh at everybody trying it because it's supposed
11:51to be a joke.
11:52Like don't take it seriously.
11:54People really put like, I know there was one like people
11:56put like, what was it?
11:57Like egg in their hair.
11:59Oh, yeah, that one.
12:00I feel like that's a kind of like an old-school trick.
12:02I feel like.
12:03Yeah, right.
12:04Put egg, like egg white on their face as well as a face mask.
12:07Oh, yeah.
12:07Yeah, I've seen that.
12:08I don't know.
12:09Like it must work.
12:11It's been around for so long, but it's like messy.
12:13Yeah.
12:14It's like I feel like, you know, now like there's so many
12:16products that are so accessible that you can find out there
12:18that can make your life easier.
12:20Like really don't trouble yourself to like be a chef and
12:24like be a cosmetologist and blend everything.
12:28There's one right now that people keep talking about the
12:30apple cider vinegar.
12:32Like you can put on your hair.
12:33Oh, yeah, and it's supposed to, it's supposed to make your
12:35hair shiny.
12:36But at the same time, it might dry out your scalp.
12:39Like it's just like, just buy a hair mask, guys.
12:43And also I feel like there are like hair tonics and serums
12:46that you can put in your scalp.
12:48Like when you shower that is going to like maybe detox
12:51your hair because I use one because I have like really
12:53oily hair sometimes.
12:54And I find that like you're using like some sort of like
12:57vinegar on your scalp really helps kind of like cleanse
13:00all the dirt and like oil.
13:01Yeah, there are like the sprays, the apple cider vinegar
13:04like hairspray, which is already like kind of made up
13:07for you, I guess, which is easy.
13:09But if you're taking like actual apple cider vinegar
13:11and trying to do it yourself.
13:12Yeah, it could be too harsh maybe.
13:14Especially like sensitive scalp.
13:15I can't imagine like, I imagine like if you bleach your
13:17hair all the time.
13:19Especially like hair care and skincare.
13:21It's like so easy to like do one thing wrong and mess
13:24it up.
13:24Yeah, it's kind of like a domino effect, you know?
13:26Yeah, then instead of making your skin better, it makes
13:29your skin worse.
13:29And then you have to do all these things to make it better
13:31again just for you to try it, something that's going to
13:34wreck it again.
13:36Like at one point they were saying like, oh 10 step Korean
13:39skincare and now they're like, oh no, you should only be
13:42like, simplify it.
13:43Only need three products.
13:44So it's like, okay, like once you get used to one thing,
13:47it changes.
13:48Yeah, you can never keep up.
13:49That's true.
13:50Yeah, but like if you could, like what was, what is a
13:53trend that you would definitely bring back or like, what
13:55is the hack that you bring back?
13:56Oh, a trend that I would bring back that nobody really
13:58does anymore.
14:00Remember when they used to do blinding highlighter?
14:03I kind of like that.
14:04I kind of like that.
14:05I love it.
14:05I kind of have it on.
14:06I don't know if it's still on, but I had it like this
14:08morning.
14:08I was like, yeah.
14:09Cause I feel like, but I feel like we use normal amounts.
14:12Remember last time it was like, okay, let's like, like
14:15put a pound of highlighter like everywhere so people, and
14:18remember it was like all these weird colors, like people
14:20would put like violet, like highlight, and like glitter.
14:23I kind of like it too.
14:24I feel like there's a time and place for that though, right?
14:27True.
14:27Like I wouldn't go to a business meeting and be like, look
14:29at my green highlighter guys, but I feel like, but I do
14:34kind of like it too.
14:35And I feel like in pictures especially, it looks really
14:38nice, right?
14:39Yeah, it's different.
14:40It is different.
14:41I remember they used to have all these holographic highlighters
14:44and I was like all about, I had like the ABH ones that were
14:47like blue and purple and green.
14:50Oh no, you know the holographic eyeshadows?
14:53Yes, I love them.
14:54The metallic ones.
14:54I still use them.
14:56I'm still stuck in 2016 apparently.
14:58I've never been able to use it.
14:59Like it just looks a mess on me.
15:01I don't know.
15:01I'm not very good at applying like eyeshadow.
15:03So I don't have the, I feel like with those kind of eyeshadows
15:07you need some kind of skill.
15:09You can't blend it out, you know?
15:10You can't just like put it and just like switch to work,
15:13right?
15:13Yeah.
15:14Highlighter, bring it back guys.
15:15I would love to see people with like blinding highlight.
15:17I feel like people like Jaclyn Hill were like one of the
15:19big like influencers, YouTubers at the time that were all
15:22about highlighters and highlighters were like selling out
15:25by like the big pans.
15:27People would just like buy them and I'm like, I never have
15:29ever gone through like a whole tan.
15:32And I'm like, do I really need this much highlighter in my
15:34life? Because where am I going to put it?
15:37Because you literally just put it on like your cheekbones,
15:39like tip of your nose, right?
15:41I like, I don't know.
15:43But apparently like highlighters sell like hotcakes back
15:45then.
15:46Yeah, nowadays.
15:47It's not as much but speaking of like, you mentioned Jaclyn
15:50Hill, that's one thing I would bring back.
15:52The YouTube, the beauty YouTubers.
15:55Oh my god.
15:56That was a time.
15:57Not really a thing anymore.
15:59Like where are they?
16:00Yeah, I feel like YouTube like long-form content has kind
16:03of been replaced in a way by like, you know, TikTok and
16:08like all the short form but I'm like such a millennial that
16:11I'm like, oh no, I can't really let go.
16:14I kind of like still crave that in-depth like tutorial like
16:18back then people were like still learning to do their makeup
16:21and everybody was still like, oh, how do we do a smokey?
16:23How do we do a halo eye or sunset eye?
16:25And everybody was like falling step by step.
16:27I feel like that was kind of like a moment in like beauty.
16:32It was like, it was a time, you know, like every like YouTuber
16:36had some sort of collaboration with a brand, remember?
16:39And like every day was like palette, palette, palette, right?
16:42And now I feel like there are no palettes anymore.
16:44Everything is just blush, cream blush, cream, cream, cream
16:47bronzer, you know, it's crazy like over the years how things
16:50like escalate and de-escalate.
16:53Yeah, I feel like it kind of self-combusted though, like with
16:56all the YouTube drama at the time.
16:58Yeah, and then everyone just kind of went silent for a while
17:01and then TikTok came up.
17:02Yeah, so then you got your new beauty influences.
17:05Yeah, and also I feel like maybe it was like oversaturated
17:08the market a little bit.
17:10Yeah, everybody had a product and it was kind of like repetitive.
17:14I know.
17:14Yeah, but then at the same time we were just like, no, we need
17:17it all.
17:18I felt like I was guilty of that and then I ended up just like
17:21not using a lot of it and like, you know, having to donate
17:23or like throw it out because it expired.
17:25Yeah, but I feel like there was a point in time we were hoarding
17:28a lot of makeup because of what we saw.
17:31I mean, like you said, have you ever got like, I've never
17:33really gone through an eyeshadow palette.
17:35Yeah, me too.
17:36Like we never really use every single, like every single
17:39I've maybe used like, you know, like at most like the like
17:43cool colors sometimes like maybe three, four times and that's
17:46even like a special events, you know, like one day out of
17:50the year.
17:50I feel like I want blue eyes or blue eyeshadow, but sometimes
17:53I'm just like, you know what?
17:54No, I'm just gonna do natural.
17:55I would just do a liner.
17:57So yeah, it's kind of kind of like sad.
18:00I feel bad for those palettes because there were some pretty
18:03good palettes out there.
18:04There were, yeah, of course, but like I feel like it was a
18:07point where like I said, you needed some kind of skill to
18:09do especially like the really colorful stuff.
18:11Yeah.
18:12So like it's either you were into beauty or you weren't, right?
18:15You know, like if you were like a makeup girly or you just
18:19didn't really use any makeup at all.
18:21So there was that kind of thing and now I feel like everyone's
18:25more similar.
18:26Everyone kind of uses like the more natural colors and stuff.
18:30So everyone is kind of including in that.
18:32Yeah, which is nice.
18:33I think yeah, because it's not as complicated as used to be
18:37and it's also quite refreshing, honestly.
18:39But yeah, apart from that, have you tried any like any beauty
18:43hacks that have actually worked out for you that you still
18:45continue to this day?
18:47I think contour is something that I caught on to a little
18:52bit later on.
18:54But now I feel like I can't do without it because like I was
18:57telling you, I've got quite flat cheeks, right?
19:00So to kind of like give some kind of definition, I use like
19:02the contour and I used to do it like here.
19:05I feel like that was a trend at one point.
19:06Yeah, just put it down here.
19:08Yeah, and then now they're like, oh, you're putting it up to
19:11like give it like a more lifted, not exactly snatched.
19:15Yeah, like natural snatch.
19:17Natural.
19:18So I do that a lot nowadays.
19:21Yeah.
19:21Okay.
19:22And like I feel like lately as I get older, I'm a little
19:24dazier with my makeup.
19:25I'm just kind of like, I kind of blend my bronzer and my
19:28contour together.
19:29It's kind of like a two-in-one.
19:30Whereas back then I'd be like, contour is contour and bronzer
19:33is bronzer.
19:33And now it's just like, oh, it's the same thing, you know?
19:35I've never really known the difference.
19:37Really?
19:38I always felt like a contour was more cool tone and bronzer
19:40would always be like kind of like to warm up the face like
19:43all over.
19:44Oh, yeah.
19:45Okay.
19:46Okay.
19:46Like so since I always use cool tone stuff, I never really
19:50touched like the warmer tones, which would probably be
19:53bronzer, I guess.
19:54So yeah.
19:55But now it's kind of like, you know, you have like all these
19:57cream products, which I think is also cool because back then
20:00it was mainly all powders, right?
20:03Do you dig the whole like powder situation or are you more
20:06of a cream girl?
20:08I feel like powder is easier to use.
20:10Yeah.
20:10Cream takes a little while to get used to, but the cream look
20:13does look really nice.
20:15Like, um, Rare Beauty has these like blushes and highlights.
20:19This is also my favorite.
20:21They feel like cashmere.
20:23It is.
20:23Yeah, I love it.
20:24Yeah.
20:25And I feel like they're really reasonably priced too.
20:28Yeah, I've been wanting to get but I have so much blush at
20:31home.
20:31I can't really justify it, but I really want it.
20:34Yeah.
20:34I mean, I feel like that also like made it's round on like
20:37TikTok, like everybody's talking about like single color.
20:40I think it was like Hope or Joy or something like that.
20:43That was really, it's like a bright pink and everybody was
20:46like, I think that's the one I wanted.
20:48I can't remember what it's called.
20:49I have like a few of those actually because I was obsessed
20:53with those for when they came out and it really does go a
20:55long way.
20:56Like it's so pigmented, but not in like a crazy way.
20:58It's super easy to like blend out and I love that about
21:01cream.
21:01So I've kind of like converted from like a full powder girl
21:04to like a cream girl, I'd say and it's funny.
21:07I never thought I'd say that because I have like combination
21:09skin and I never thought like I would be a cream kind of
21:12girl.
21:12I always thought like, oh, yeah, because I always get oily
21:15like on my t-zones and I've you know, it's so hard to get
21:17like makeup to stay on without like touching up but for
21:21whatever reason like I feel like now makeup is so like the
21:24technology behind makeup and formulations have like, you
21:28know been so great.
21:29Like, yeah, I don't know how they make those creams really
21:31lightweight and like long-wearing.
21:33It's definitely come a long way.
21:34Yeah, I feel like now it's also easier to use like just
21:38because it doesn't kind of like separate on your face.
21:41Yeah, like Kiki foundation.
21:42Oh, that's something.
21:45Yeah, sometimes I look back at pictures and I was like, wow,
21:48my face is completely a different shape from my neck and
21:51like how did I think this was a look like I felt so good
21:54then but now looking back, I'm like, oh god, nobody see
21:56these pictures, you know?
21:58Yeah, I feel like especially with foundation at one point
22:01it was like, oh because we were saying that I would like
22:04it doesn't look flawless in person.
22:06You can always kind of like see it but I feel like there
22:09was one thing that we kind of overlooked which was when
22:12foundation sits on your face instead of like blending into
22:15your skin.
22:16That's not the proper formulation for you.
22:18It's not that it should look like this.
22:21It shouldn't look like it looks like on TikTok.
22:22It's you can find the proper formula for you and
22:26it just takes some searching sometimes depending on your
22:30skin, right?
22:31Yeah, that's true.
22:32Not everyone can use the same thing.
22:33Yeah, it's kind of trial and error.
22:34I think that's why a lot of people always like are always
22:37on the hunt to buy like the next beauty thing because they
22:41always think it's going to be better than whatever they
22:43have. I feel like it's kind of like a toxic cycle because
22:46I'm also like constantly buying makeup that I don't need.
22:50I always have to remind myself like, you know what, you
22:52have everything or you don't need to keep trying just
22:54because they like repackaged it or renamed it or it's pretty
22:58much the same.
22:59It's a problem.
23:00It's so pretty.
23:01I know, sometimes I buy for the packaging or like the hype
23:04of it and I'm like, you know, but what do you think is like
23:09the future?
23:10Like, what do you think are some of the upcoming trends
23:12that you think or you foresee happening in the next maybe,
23:16you know, end of this year?
23:17Like, I don't really know.
23:18I don't really know where it would be going right now.
23:21I feel like the heavy lashes are no longer a thing.
23:24Like now it's more like a natural, right?
23:26Like, you know, at one point we were all getting like extensions
23:30like super heavy extensions.
23:31And we're like three lashes in one layer.
23:34Guilty.
23:35Me too.
23:36I still do really love that extension look.
23:38Yeah, but it's just it's really damaging for your lashes.
23:41Right, that's true guys.
23:42But yeah, where it's going to go.
23:44I honestly have no idea.
23:45Yeah.
23:45I mean, I feel like it's kind of exciting but at the same
23:48time it's kind of scary because I feel like one day it's
23:51going to, we're just doing like a big circle.
23:53Eventually, we're all going to end up wearing like layers
23:56of makeup again, eventually.
23:58Oh god, it's like fashion, right?
23:59Yeah, it's fashion.
24:00So we're just going to recycle this and like, you know, maybe
24:02five years we'll all be wearing like, you know, like full-on
24:06caked makeup, like beauty makeup.
24:10I feel like the problem is it always does an extreme 180.
24:14Like last year, it was all about the matte lipsticks.
24:17And this year, suddenly, it's all about like, oh, we need
24:19like the high gloss.
24:20Yeah, the lip oil.
24:21Yeah, which was a trend like, what, three, four years ago?
24:25Like, it's just a constant, we go from here to here to here
24:28to here and there's never any like middle ground.
24:30And we just call it different things now.
24:31It's just the same thing renamed.
24:35But do you have like maybe any favorite content creators
24:39or beauty creators that you, you know, constantly watch?
24:43I feel like someone I really watch now is Mikaela on TikTok.
24:49Okay.
24:52Yeah, the YouTubers aren't really around anymore.
24:55I do watch Anne's content, Anne from Hits.
24:58Mm-hmm.
24:59She does a lot of like makeup stuff and she's really good
25:01with like the eyeshadow and stuff.
25:02Yeah.
25:03So I like watching how she does her eyeshadow.
25:05I've been trying to get her to teach me.
25:06We haven't found the time yet.
25:07But yeah, her content is really good as well.
25:10Oh, cool.
25:11Oh, that's nice.
25:12Yeah, I feel like I personally still follow a lot of the
25:15old-school YouTubers like Tati and all that because I feel
25:18like she still does like pretty good reviews.
25:21And like I know there was one hack that she like spoke
25:25about like, like many years ago.
25:27She used to put like, I think it was like hemorrhoid cream
25:31on her face or something.
25:32Like I was like, wait, do I, am I really brave enough to try?
25:37Okay, this is, but she's and she like there was one hack
25:40that she like did like hairspray on her entire face.
25:43I think this was before like setting sprays existed.
25:46Maybe like it wasn't really, setting sprays weren't really
25:48a thing.
25:48So she would like hairspray her whole face and I was like,
25:51oh my god, I feel like the breakout is gonna just happen
25:54for me at least.
25:56My skin is so like breakout prone.
25:58Like if I put anything wrong on there, it's just the next
26:00day.
26:01I'm just going to have a fun time trying to conceal that
26:03fun friend, you know, but yeah.
26:06I feel like there's no one I like follow because
26:10I think it's also just because of like the TikTok culture
26:13because like last time YouTube you subscribe to them.
26:15Yeah, you just watch, right?
26:17But now TikTok is like once you see something you like
26:20you just keep scrolling and different people come up with
26:23like similar things.
26:24So I don't really follow one person in general, but it's
26:26like you saying that just made me think of one trend that
26:31I'm really liking which is the gua sha.
26:34Yeah, a few people have mentioned that.
26:35Have you, do you do that like frequently? I've tried it.
26:38I'm very inconsistent with it.
26:42Just because like I don't really do a proper night routine.
26:44I always fall asleep.
26:48My face is clean.
26:49That's about it.
26:49But you have great skin.
26:50So you're really blessed.
26:51I feel like great skin.
26:53I think that's one thing that I think especially like a
26:56podcast called Out of Beauty we need to mention a lot of
26:59things is genetics.
27:00Like lucky girl.
27:02You don't need all the skincare that somebody has like just
27:06because they were born with great skin.
27:07Like, you know, but yeah, I have noticed like when I do
27:11do the gua sha, you do see like the shape of your face
27:15change like it's more lifted.
27:17It's more toned.
27:17It's more, you know, your skin is like slightly glowier.
27:22So if you're one of those people who can stick with a
27:23routine, I definitely recommend it.
27:26And everyone has like similar maybe slightly different routines
27:30for the gua sha which I keep seeing on TikTok, which is
27:32why I don't follow one person.
27:34Oh, yeah.
27:34Like I just keep trying all the different ones.
27:36Yeah, because there's definitely a learning curve there.
27:38I feel like right.
27:38You don't just you don't know what to do with it.
27:40I think I have a gua sha too, but I've never really like,
27:44yeah, like you said immerse myself in it and been consistent.
27:47So when I do use it.
27:48Yeah, I feel it feels good.
27:50Yeah, you feel like your face is a little tightened and
27:51lifted, but I know it helps with like blood circulation
27:54deep puffing and all that.
27:56But sometimes I imagine like wow, what if I was really
27:58regimented and disciplined and like did it twice a day?
28:02Like would my face be like super snatched?
28:04I saw this girl on TikTok.
28:06She showed up before after doing gua sha for a year.
28:11Like she looks like a different person.
28:13Really?
28:14Yeah.
28:14And that's like a like almost like what is that just like
28:16does it like eventually fade or is it almost like a permanent
28:19like fix?
28:21I think basically it's like they call it like exercise for
28:24your face.
28:24Like once you stop it will.
28:26Yeah, you have to always like keep up with it, right?
28:29Yeah, I guess it's kind of like working out.
28:33Don't really do that either.
28:35Like a workout for your face.
28:36So if you stop, you know, you're going to stop seeing
28:37those results.
28:38Yeah, but this girl that I saw like her face was she wasn't
28:42like I want to call her like fat or anything but like she
28:46afterwards she was very snatched like her face was like
28:50just very tight and glowy and she just looked more youthful
28:54like you were saying and like, you know, like everything
28:57was up.
28:57Yeah, whereas you wouldn't have noticed it before but when
29:01you see the comparison she did have like her cheeks were
29:03like drooping a little bit like they were a little bit
29:05bigger, the shape was different.
29:07Yeah.
29:08So I think it definitely does work but you have to work
29:11for it.
29:13Beauty is pain guys, beauty is pain.
29:15If you could set like a trend or you could set like a hack
29:18or viral, you know, like a viral tip, what would it be?
29:22I would like to see tips for like those lazy days.
29:25I don't mean like no makeup makeup where there's still
29:27like 10 steps you have to do before you leave the house.
29:30I mean like actual, if you don't have time or you don't
29:34want to put makeup on your face every day, what is there
29:36something that you can do to still look done up?
29:40Yeah, you know, like my tip is always mascara.
29:42Mascara changes everything.
29:44That is true.
29:44Stick mascara on and leave the house.
29:46Yeah, I agree with that.
29:47Like I think like, you know, if your eyes look awake like
29:50you pretty much, you can rule the day.
29:53Yeah, which is why I liked eyelash extensions at one point
29:56because it's like, you literally wake up like this, you
29:59know. Well, yeah, there you have it guys.
30:01Thank you so much Calista.
30:02It was so fun speaking to you all about like beauty tracks
30:06and hacks and trends.
30:08So thanks so much guys for staying in tune with us.
30:12I'll see you guys in the next episode.
30:15Bye baby.
30:16Bye.
