00:00Hey there, Matt D'Avella here.
00:01Hello, my name is Thomas Frank.
00:03Hello, I'm Ruby Granger.
00:04Hey guys, I'm Unjaded Jade.
00:06Hey guys, I'm Mattie Apoya.
00:08Hey friends, welcome back to the channel.
00:09Today, we're taking a look
00:10at the world's most productive desk setups,
00:12but crucially, what they look like on a normal day
00:14rather than when everything has been cleared up
00:17and everything looks nice for a desk setup video.
00:19I recently released a video
00:20about my fancy productivity desk setup 2021,
00:22which I think looks pretty aesthetic.
00:24So I'm gonna start by giving you a tour
00:26of what my desk normally looks like,
00:27and then we're gonna visit some of my YouTuber friends
00:30who are famously productive
00:31to see what their desk setups look like as well.
00:33All right, so this is what everything looks like
00:36as a very broad brush overview.
00:38The floor usually has random crap on it.
00:40AirPods Max, which got released recently.
00:43This is a random mess of wires that always sort of happens.
00:46iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard on charge.
00:49And this is the Herman Miller Sail Chair.
00:51And currently, I have the desk in standing mode,
00:54which means I can stand at the desk,
00:58with my microphone here if I'm on the Zoom call,
00:59keyboard over here, mouse over here.
01:01Let's take a look at what this looks like now.
01:02So I always have these two pads with me.
01:05One of them is specifically for the book that I'm writing.
01:08That's this one.
01:09And one of them is just for general thoughts.
01:11And I often kind of fluctuate between different pens.
01:13My two favorite ones are the Uni-Ball Air
01:15and the Uni-Ball Air Micro.
01:17The Uni-Ball Air I prefer for writing on bigger pads
01:19because the ink feels more smooth.
01:22I have a deck of cards
01:23that I always use as a fidgeting device.
01:26This is a book, Experiment Without Limits,
01:27which is written by my productivity coach, Chris Sparks.
01:30And underneath, we have two books by Austin Kleon.
01:33We have Show Your Work and Steal Like an Artist.
01:37I've read both of these many, many times,
01:38but I have them on my desk
01:39because I've been referencing them a lot recently.
01:42Here we have the M1 Mac Mini
01:43connected to the CalDigit TS3 dock.
01:45Fake plant, real plant over there.
01:47Audio interface and diary.
01:50Ukulele in the corner.
01:51Second camera, random playing card.
01:53These are for my home workouts.
01:55And an absolute mess of wires over there,
01:57which work nicely when I'm in standing and sitting mode.
01:59Now, on the desk, we have my water bottle.
02:01And the rest of it is a bit of a mess.
02:04So on screen, we have a book.
02:06This is the procrastination equation that I've been reading.
02:09And this is the website short form
02:10where I like reading summaries of books, which is awesome.
02:13We have my iQUNIX F96 keyboard.
02:16We have the MX Master 3 mouse
02:18and the Shure SM7B microphone,
02:21which is on this articulating arm
02:23because I was on a Zoom call earlier today.
02:25Now, I always have coffee cups
02:26of some description on my desk.
02:28This was from the coffee this morning.
02:30This was from my coffee last night.
02:32And this is the Clever Dripper,
02:34which is what James Hoffman sent me
02:37as a productive way of making coffee.
02:38So you put coffee in it and then after three minutes,
02:41you put it onto your coffee cup
02:43and then it automatically drips without causing a mess.
02:45So it's like a nice way to make coffee
02:46without having to wait for the coffee to be made.
02:48This is a microfiber cloth that I've been using recently
02:50for shoulder mobility exercises.
02:52AirPods Max, which I occasionally use.
02:55Box of deck of cards, more pens,
02:58and Command Strips and surgical tape.
03:01So recently I've actually been,
03:04I've been taping my mouth shut at night when I go to bed.
03:06So I bought this for that purpose,
03:07Command Strips to hang stuff on the wall.
03:09I usually have a, you know, piece of perfume.
03:12This is Aloe Home by Channel.
03:14And so occasionally I spray this to make myself feel good.
03:16Diet Coke, of course, caffeine free
03:18because caffeine is bad for you.
03:19This is my wallet.
03:20I'll put a link in the video description
03:21if you wanna check it out.
03:23And over here is my analog to-do list system.
03:25Again, linked in the video description
03:26if you do wanna check it out.
03:27Basically it's a series of key card,
03:29flash card type things that you put on this sort of stand.
03:34And this is how I have my to-do list
03:35in front of me every day.
03:36Random lens, Sony 24 millimeter F1.4 G Master.
03:39And we've got the gather from Ugmonk over there,
03:42which is where I store random desk accessories.
03:44And occasionally I'll put a post-it note on my screen
03:46to remind me to do something.
03:47This one says YouTube story,
03:49because it reminds me that I should be posting
03:51more often on YouTube stories.
03:52So overall, this is what my desk looks like on a normal day.
03:55It's a massive tip and I intend to clean it up,
03:58but hey, helps me be more productive or something like that.
04:01So that was my productivity desk set up in real life.
04:03Let's now turn to some of my YouTuber friends
04:05to see what theirs is like as well.
04:07Hey, what's up, it's Pat Flynn here.
04:08Welcome to my home office.
04:09And this desk that you're currently seeing
04:11where I do some podcasting and some gaming and stuff,
04:13not too bad.
04:14But for most of my work,
04:15especially here on YouTube and my live streams every morning,
04:18this is my setup and it's an absolute mess right now.
04:22This desk has never been this messy.
04:25In fact, when I was asked to film this video,
04:27it was at the absolute worst time.
04:29We're moving stuff out of storage.
04:30We're doing some stuff.
04:31So even this side of the office is a mess.
04:33I have my hoverboard collection here.
04:34It's just absolutely atrocious.
04:37But the stuff that you see on camera,
04:41you don't see the mess.
04:42It's just all perfectly out of frame.
04:44I mean, here's the view from where I sit or stand.
04:47It's just, you know,
04:48I got a new microphone and just cord galore.
04:51It's just ridiculous.
04:52But like I said, this looks okay, right?
04:56It's hard to be productive when it's like this.
04:58And I'm likely gonna take some time
05:00now that the world is seeing this to fix this situation,
05:03but still able to make it work.
05:05It's not always perfect, but I try my best
05:07and hopefully you can too.
05:09Hey, what's up everyone, Oli here.
05:10So Ali has asked me to show you guys
05:12my ultimate productivity station.
05:14Let me show you.
05:15This really is as messy as my desk setup gets.
05:18I have a Herman Miller chair
05:19to show that I have more money than sense.
05:21No, I'm joking.
05:22I'm joking.
05:23It is actually a really great chair.
05:24I have a sit-stand desk from Ergonofis.
05:27I have a cereal magazine to make sure
05:28that everyone knows that I have good taste.
05:31I have a Diptyque candle to mask
05:33all of the productivity sweat
05:35that is produced in this room.
05:36I use the M1 MacBook Pro,
05:38which is connected up to an LG Ultrafine 5K display.
05:42Keychron keyboard, Magic Mouse,
05:44ULX desk mat.
05:46Also have a microfiber cloth
05:47because everyone needs a microfiber cloth
05:49to wipe down all of those dirty screens.
05:52Over here, I have some camera gear,
05:54some lenses, some batteries.
05:56I also have a plant to add some greenery
05:59to my otherwise very dreary setup.
06:02And then finally, I actually do have a mic here,
06:03which is just a cheap one from Amazon.
06:05So yeah, just a quick tour of my productivity setup.
06:09Hello, I'm Ruby Granger,
06:10and this is what my desk looks like.
06:13The main important thing for my desk
06:15is making sure that it's aesthetic,
06:17so I enjoy sitting here to study.
06:18Obviously, that is a lot easier with the snow today.
06:21I have some candles.
06:23Hand sanitizer is obviously very important at the moment.
06:26My favorite pens are in this bust pen pot.
06:30Then I always have my laptop here
06:32and a little SD card reader,
06:36which is always plugged in there.
06:38At the moment, I've just got some pens and to-do lists up.
06:40I always have little notebooks
06:41and pieces of paper dotted around my desk when I'm working.
06:45These pen pots usually live under my desk.
06:48These two pen pots are filled
06:49with all of the pens I use on a daily basis.
06:53These are the Zebra Sarasa Vintage Pens.
06:55They're just very nice colors, write very well.
06:58And then I've just got miscellaneous things here,
07:00like scissors.
07:02Obviously, a letter opener is a massive essential.
07:05This is shaped like the sword of Godric Gryffindor.
07:09I keep lots of pens in these boxes.
07:13So this really is not the most aesthetic thing.
07:15This is a drawer organizer,
07:18which I got when I was about 11 years old.
07:22And it just kind of works really well for stationery.
07:24It fits under here perfectly, so I use this.
07:27And I just keep the things that I reach for on a daily basis.
07:30In the very bottom one, I keep lots and lots of sticky notes.
07:33I don't keep this very neat because with the sticky notes,
07:36I like to just be able to reach for something
07:38and put it up on my desk and start using immediately.
07:41I don't really have a preference usually
07:43as to which one I use.
07:46My iPad, an essential.
07:48I actually have an armchair as my desk chair.
07:51And when I'm working, I always have some blankets here
07:54and I always have a hot water bottle too
07:56because I do get quite cold
07:58and I don't really like being cold when I'm working.
08:00And finally, I have a vision board
08:03on the wall next to my desk.
08:05Again, I just like to be in quite an aesthetic space.
08:07So this is filled with lots of photos
08:10that I very much like and which kind of motivate me,
08:13I suppose.
08:14Just next to my desk under my bed,
08:16I also have a fold-out lamp so that if it's dark
08:19and I'm reading a text or something in the evening,
08:23I can prop this up.
08:24It's like really minimal, really portable.
08:26It's got a variety of options,
08:27so you can change the brightness and the light color,
08:31which is very useful.
08:32And that is my desk set up at a glance.
08:35It's quite simple,
08:36but it's got everything that I need
08:39really, really easily accessible.
08:40And I quite like the aesthetic of it at least.
08:43Hello, my name is Thomas Frank
08:45and this is the current state of my desk.
08:48It's not always super organized.
08:50Now I just moved into a new house,
08:52so the entire studio is a little bit of a mess,
08:54but this is indicative of how I often work.
08:58Sometimes I've just got a lot of stuff on the desk.
09:00So right now we've got some tools, microphones,
09:03some Velcro strips I was using
09:04to put these audio foam panels up on the walls.
09:08And it's really not the most organized place all the time,
09:12which is kind of interesting
09:13because you'd think that a super organized place
09:16is a great place to get work done,
09:18but sometimes, well, you gotta get work done
09:20and the state of the desk just doesn't matter.
09:23Hey, my name is Jacqueline
09:24and this is my productivity and desk set up.
09:26So I have my MacBook Pro,
09:27which is the main thing I edit on and script, et cetera.
09:30I have a couple of products that I'm currently reviewing,
09:33a podcast microphone and my camera in the back.
09:36It's a pretty simple setup,
09:37but it's the one that I'm mainly using
09:38when I'm in the studio.
09:40So guys, I just wanted to share my productivity hack.
09:45This is huge, you guys are gonna love this.
09:48So this is my desk, really simple setup.
09:52Usually it's messier than this,
09:53but what we have here is my MacBook Pro
09:58and this is my productivity tool, okay?
10:03So this is a microfiber cloth
10:05and it is an extremely powerful tool in my arsenal
10:09because if you think about it,
10:11well, let me first explain my use of this tool.
10:14I use it to wipe my screen
10:16so that I can see clearly what I'm doing
10:19because if you think about it,
10:20if you can't see what you're doing,
10:21can't really get a lot done.
10:23So this has represented a paradigm shift for me.
10:30This is just in every sense,
10:32it has multiplied my productivity
10:34by at least seven or eight times.
10:38So let me do a little demonstration really quick.
10:40Okay, so this is me opening up my computer here
10:45and as you can see right away,
10:47and I'll take the brightness all the way down
10:48so that you really just get a full experience of this.
10:51Oh my God, look at that.
10:54Just look at the smudges there.
10:56It's disturbing.
10:58Now with this microfiber cloth,
11:01I just make my way across.
11:04I'm wiping away these smudges and boom, they're gone.
11:07They're disappearing like you wouldn't believe.
11:09They're out of here.
11:10Get out of here, smudges,
11:11is what I say with my microfiber cloth.
11:14So once again, microfiber cloth,
11:16incredible productivity tool in my personal humble opinion.
11:21So consider incorporating this
11:22in your own productivity routine if you haven't already.
11:25Hey guys, I'm Matty Apoia
11:26and this is my productive desk setup.
11:29And yes, this is what it looks like most of the time.
11:32I just finished filming my one mil giveaway video.
11:35So that's why that's there.
11:37I have a fully desk set up.
11:39It's a standing desk adjustable.
11:41I got Mac Pro, XDR monitor, iLoud monitors,
11:45thanks to Jonathan Morrison.
11:47I've been using these recently.
11:48I really like them.
11:49And a 16 inch MacBook Pro here.
11:51I kind of go back and forth.
11:53And then I have a Aputure 120D as my light up there
11:57with this giant soft box that I kind of just move around.
12:01So yeah, that's kind of a quick tour of my desk.
12:04This is the way that I work.
12:06I go back and forth between the two.
12:08And yeah, it's messy.
12:09This is what it looks like normally,
12:10but that's also kind of my philosophy
12:13that I like keeping things tidy,
12:15but I'm also not gonna be cleaning all of the time
12:18because then I wouldn't get anything done.
12:20So sometimes, a lot of the times, it just looks like this.
12:25Hey guys, I'm Simon Clark,
12:26and this is what my productive desk setup looks like.
12:30So my desk itself is a standard standing desk from Ikea,
12:33but the hand crank one, not the motorized one
12:36because I'm not made of money.
12:37And what you can see on here is two BenQ 1440
12:41photo editing screens, monitors,
12:44basically because I do a lot of video editing, obviously,
12:45and having the sort of true colors
12:47is really important to me.
12:48I have two because I'd like to have something
12:50on this window, like for example,
12:52a script or whatever it may be,
12:53and then editing on the other window,
12:54or in this case, Notion.
12:56I like the real estate, basically.
12:58And the rest of it's pretty standard, really.
13:01This is a normal Logitech keyboard with standard speakers.
13:05That's the volume control there, and just the normal mouse.
13:08The sort of more interesting things,
13:11this is a stream deck.
13:12So basically, this allows me to control
13:14certain aspects of my live stream
13:16so I can change which screen you see on stream.
13:20So if I want to change to, you know,
13:22showing one monitor or the other,
13:23and it also allows me to do sound effects.
13:25So that sort of adds a lot of value to the streams.
13:27On that note, we also have a Rode boom arm here
13:30with an AT2020 vocal mic with a pop filter.
13:33And I have a backup webcam here.
13:35This is for when my viewers force me to do press ups.
13:38The main webcam I use is a Canon 80D,
13:42which is hooked into the computer via an Elgato 4K.
13:46And it has an AC adapter,
13:47so I don't have to worry about changing the battery.
13:49And an 18 to 200 mil lens,
13:51basically locked off at 80 millimeters,
13:53so it's a bit overkill.
13:54That's my normal streaming camera.
13:56And I also move that around for when I do painting streams.
13:58And then in terms of just other little things,
14:00I also have space for the cat.
14:02It's very important to have good working conditions
14:05for your coworkers.
14:07And then I have a little thing here,
14:09which is a 3D print of my podcast logo
14:13with me on one side and my co-host on the other side
14:15that was sent to me in the post by a fan,
14:17which was wonderful.
14:18Picture of my fiancee, who is kept private.
14:21So that's why it doesn't always face that way.
14:22I'm not ashamed of her.
14:23I just don't want to dox her, basically.
14:26Basically to remind me why I do all of this.
14:27And on a similar note,
14:29I have these three origami little pieces,
14:32which were given to me by a child
14:34at a talk I gave at Oxford.
14:36Basically, I gave this talk and she came up to me
14:38again with these three little tiny origami animals.
14:41And I love them so much.
14:42And again, they remind me of kind of why I do all of this.
14:44So I keep them on the desk.
14:47And then these, the lights here,
14:49are Nanoleaf streaming panels.
14:51So these integrate with Google Home
14:54and I use them in this configuration
14:55just when I'm working for a bit of extra visual interest
14:58for just behind the screens.
14:59But if I'm streaming, hey Google, set lights to daylight.
15:03Then they become a large softbox.
15:05So I am sort of nicely lit when I'm sat in front of it.
15:08And then they can also flash purple
15:11when somebody subscribes, that kind of thing.
15:13They integrate with what's happening on Twitch.
15:14That was way longer than like a minute.
15:16Sorry.
15:17I hope that you found that interesting.
15:17Hey guys, I'm Unjaded Jade
15:19and this is my productive desk setup.
15:22So every time I've said online
15:23that you need a tidy workspace,
15:25this is what I mean.
15:27You've got to have your bowl of finished food, you know?
15:31You've got to keep yourself there,
15:32motivated with the snacks on the grind.
15:35I honestly don't know why this is here.
15:38I think this is just to inspire me
15:40to maybe pick up exercise, you know?
15:42I've got a break.
15:43Why don't I just pick up this resistance band
15:45and get squatting?
15:46Why not?
15:47I've got two options of headphones, not just one,
15:50because who knows, you know,
15:52maybe people being a bit loud,
15:53I'm just going to trade over to this.
15:55I've got my gorgeous light ready for the late night grind.
15:58I've got my laptop on a laptop stand just to look fancy
16:01and not to kill my neck.
16:03I'm learning Korean and I feel like this book is just,
16:06oh, focus.
16:08I feel like this book is just permanently here,
16:10again, to inspire myself to continue learning Korean,
16:12bit of space repetition, Ali, just for you.
16:15I've got a mug here with the inspirational,
16:17The Adventure Begins,
16:18just to remind me of everything I want to be doing
16:20apart from studying right now.
16:22So that's some good motivation.
16:24And I've got my water bottle
16:26because you've got to stay hydrated.
16:29And that's my productive desk setup.
16:31It's so productive that I even have my phone here.
16:33We love a bit of procrastination.
16:35Don't tell the procrastination police.
16:37Okay, thank you.
16:39Also the real tea is having a roommate.
16:43This is my roommate's desk.
16:44So yeah, we're doing pretty well today.
16:48Hey there, Matt D'Avella here.
16:49I'm about to show you guys something
16:51that I've never shown anybody before.
16:54It's my desk in its messiest state ever.
16:59It's pretty bad for a minimalist.
17:02Alrighty, so this is my desk right now.
17:06And yes, this is as messy as it gets.
17:09I'll give you a little bit of a tour.
17:10This is a fresh cup of coffee I just made.
17:13This is a mug from my sister's book.
17:19So we got here a little rock figurine,
17:23just a little daily inspiration there.
17:25Receipt, I'm currently using a flip phone for 30 days.
17:29So I'm piling up all my receipts right here for now.
17:32That's my laptop and my desktop, not very minimalist.
17:37Let's see, this is my wife's old phone.
17:41Yeah, I'm in the process of downloading
17:43all the old photos and videos from there
17:46because I wanna see what she was doing
17:47with her ex before me.
17:49I'm joking, I'm joking.
17:50This is a printer right here.
17:53I was gonna print off some documents today,
17:55but I ran out of ink.
17:56So it's just gonna stay here for now.
17:58This is my credit card.
17:59You don't wanna see those details, or maybe you do.
18:02This is my flip phone that I was talking about.
18:04This is how I communicate, and it's been awful.
18:09Here's my notebook.
18:10I like to keep a handwritten notebook
18:13for my to-do list and jotting notes.
18:15I really like the tactical feel of it.
18:16It's always great.
18:18Got a little bit of lotion here.
18:21Oh, that's that good stuff.
18:22That's that Aesop, that's when you know you've made it.
18:25So yeah, gotta stay moisturized.
18:28The lens, some just random knick-knacks.
18:31A couple hard drives there.
18:33That's it.
18:34So that right there is my desk.
18:37My favorite part about this desk is right down there.
18:40That is a nice little mesh rack.
18:44I should say, that's a little rack.
18:47As you can see, messy.
18:51Wait, let me see this.
18:52As you can see right here, it's clean right there,
18:55and then a bit of a party in the back.
18:58A lot of cables and cords, and it's a whole mess,
19:01but it looks nice and clean.
19:03This is my chair.
19:05That's my desk.
19:08This is everything.
19:09I can't believe their desks look like that.
19:12It's, how do they consider themselves
19:15to be productivity YouTubers?
19:16It boggles the mind, because you see,
19:19the thing is, if you don't have a clean desk
19:20and you don't have a clean room,
19:23you're filth, you're vermin,
19:25and that's the problem with these males,
19:27these egotistical men, right?
19:29They have these channels.
19:31They've got hundreds and hundreds of thousands
19:33of subscribers, and yet, when it comes
19:35to their own productivity spaces,
19:37it looks like absolute degeneracy.
19:41No, it's morally reprehensible at this point.
19:44Nickel, your desk is not that good.
19:47It's kind of a mess, too.
19:50Well, I'm different, okay?
19:53I've got Indian parents.
19:54Do you know what that's like
19:55on a person psychologically?
