00:00Hi, hello and Vanakkam friends. You are watching Tamil Drive Spot and it's me Giri. Today we are at the technical centre of Ashok Leyland in Chennai.
00:15Today we are going to do a test drive of two commercial electric vehicles. Switch IEV 4 and Switch IEV 3.
00:28We have done a lot of tests like gradeability, steering test, highway test etc.
00:34We wanted to shoot this video, but we couldn't because of the plant. I will tell you how it drives at the end of the video.
00:41Since it is a commercial vehicle, you will mainly focus on technicalities and specifications. So, I don't want to talk much about the design.
00:49Both of them have a typical commercial vehicle design. All of them have halogen lighting and similar headlights.
00:55Since this is an IEV 4 with a high payload capacity, the stance will be a little big. Other than that, the design is the same.
01:04If I talk about the design, you will get a different series of badging.
01:14The capacity of this vehicle is a fixed side deck. You will get a drop down deck and a high deck.
01:26The length is 8 feet. The width is 5 feet. The height is 1.6 feet. The payload capacity is 1.2 tons.
01:41If you want to do a cube test, you will get 270 cubic feet of space.
01:53You can see that the lid is already open. The lid is not too heavy. It is easy to access.
02:01There is a metal stock on both sides. It is not a grippy stock. It is an easy metal stock.
02:06There is a rubber bushing at the end so that it does not scratch anywhere.
02:10There is a white reflector at the front. There is a spare wheel at the rear.
02:17There is a safety reflector at the back.
02:21There are 14-inch wheels at the front. There is a 15-inch wheel at the back.
02:28There is a 25.6 kWh battery pack at the front.
02:35There is a separate battery for the lighting setup.
02:39There is a PMSM motor at the back.
02:42There is a charging socket at the front.
02:47I will show you how it works in this video.
02:53Let me tell you about the battery charge time.
02:57If you charge it with a normal 15A socket, it will charge in 8-15 minutes.
03:02If you charge it with a DC fast charger, it will charge 0-80% in 55 minutes.
03:09It produces 90Nm of peak torque and 40kW of power.
03:14Let's see how the cabin looks inside.
03:17I felt a little weird.
03:20There is no driver's side handle.
03:23Since the footstep is offset, it is difficult to get in.
03:28You will know when you see it.
03:30We have to find an entry and exit position for us.
03:35The door handles are very subtle.
03:39There is enough space for the cabin.
03:42There is no jazz.
03:44There is a fold down screen.
03:46You can use your phone for navigation.
03:48There is a hard metal steering wheel without any leather wrap.
03:51There is an instrument cluster.
03:53There is an MID screen.
03:55You can see the speed, regen and braking modes.
03:58Since this is an automatic, there is reverse, neutral, driving and sport mode.
04:03You can change the driving and sport mode on the go.
04:06If you want to reverse, you have to press the neutral button.
04:09You can activate the reverse mode by pressing the brake button.
04:12This is a two-seater.
04:14You can travel with one driver.
04:16I don't know if you have such an accommodation in the front.
04:19They have given my favorite handbrake.
04:21There is an IRVM here.
04:23They have given a quick access window for easy access.
04:26There is no AC or anything like that.
04:28When you travel for your convenience,
04:30They have given two type A sockets and a water bottle holder.
04:36These are all about the capability and capacity of the iEV3.
04:39Next, let's see about the iEV4.
04:48Next, let me tell you about the capacity of the iEV4.
04:51First, let me tell you about its dimensions.
04:53It is more than 1 inch long.
04:55It is 9 feet long.
04:57But the width is the same. It is 5 feet long.
04:59The height is 1.7 feet.
05:01The cubic feet is 340.
05:03The payload capacity is 1.7 ton.
05:07They have given 1 inch higher wheels.
05:09These are 15 inch wheels.
05:11Next, let me tell you about its powertrain.
05:13They have given a 35.5 kWh battery pack.
05:17It has the same PMSM motor.
05:19Let me tell you about its power figures.
05:21It produces 60 kW power and 230 Nm of peak torque.
05:26Let me show you the socket.
05:28They have given a different type of open and close.
05:31But it is similar.
05:33If you use a DC fast charger,
05:35you can charge it from 0% to 80% in 55 minutes.
05:39Similarly, if you use a 15A socket,
05:41you can charge it in 8 hours.
05:43It takes 15 minutes less than that.
05:45These are the charging times.
05:47Let's see how this EV4's cabin is.
05:51Compared to the iEV3,
05:55this one has a grab handle.
05:57It is easier to get in.
05:59It is very easy to get in.
06:02They have given a premium door.
06:04There is a water bottle in it.
06:06The main change is that
06:08they have given a driver and two seaters.
06:10They have given a premium leather upholstery
06:12and a handbrake.
06:14Another change is that
06:16they have placed a center console here.
06:20They have given a cubby hole here.
06:23You can use your phone wallets here.
06:25There are two IPS sockets here.
06:27There is a bottle holder here
06:29and a glove box.
06:31You can keep your documents here.
06:34Another advantage is that
06:36there is a pocket here.
06:38You can keep your phone here
06:40or you can keep your documents here.
06:44The size of the instrument cluster is the same.
06:47We can see the same details here.
06:49This is a design change.
06:51It has typical commercial handles.
06:53There is a night lamp here.
06:55There is a night lamp and a quick access window.
06:58These are about the interior design of
07:00the iEV 4 and iEV 3.
07:02They are about the payload capacity
07:04and the weight of the vehicle.
07:06These two vehicles are for driving.
07:24We have tried these two vehicles
07:26in different terrains.
07:27For example, in a U-shaped long run track,
07:29there was slope and tarmac.
07:32I liked the initial power of this vehicle.
07:36It is not that bouncy.
07:38It has a good suspension.
07:40The initial torque is good.
07:42When we shift in drive mode or sports mode,
07:45we can feel the throttle variation easily.
07:49The regen braking is very accurate.
07:51When we brake at high speeds,
07:53it feels a little spongy.
07:55We tried this in a fully loaded vehicle.
07:57But, the push of the regen braking
07:59lags in the initial bite of normal braking.
08:03When we perform this in the same track,
08:06I felt a little bounciness.
08:08The suspension is on the softer side.
08:11So, I felt a little bounciness.
08:13When you travel on highways,
08:15you can feel the smoothness.
08:17But, the power lags a little.
08:19The regen braking is very mild.
08:21When we navigate in drive mode or sports mode,
08:24I don't feel much difference in this iEV3.
08:28Next, we tested the gradeability.
08:31One side was given 10.6 degrees.
08:34The other side was given 8 degrees.
08:36When we tried to climb at 10.6 degrees,
08:39when we tried this in drive mode or standstill,
08:42it didn't go up.
08:43We switched to sport mode and pushed.
08:45But, when we tried this in standstill or drive mode,
08:49it pushed.
08:51It was a very slow pickup.
08:53It was a very easy pickup.
08:55If we climb from crawling speed,
08:57it will be very easy to climb.
08:59The hill hold assist is very good in both.
09:01When we tried this in 1.2 and 1.7 tons,
09:04the hill hold assist was very good.
09:06It was good to hold for 2 to 3 seconds.
09:08Similarly, when you activate instantly,
09:10it will be very easy to increase the load in sports mode.
09:13Next, when we tested the steering,
09:15I liked this steering very much.
09:17Because, this is a fun to drive vehicle.
09:19I didn't feel like testing the steering of a commercial vehicle.
09:22Full load capacity is 1.7 tons.
09:24I enjoyed the power of the steering
09:26as much as I enjoyed the drift.
09:28The power was very good.
09:30This is also the same.
09:32But, the turning radius of this
09:34was a little more.
09:36In a typical narrow,
09:38we could do this easily in a single turn.
09:40But, this could only do a 3 point turn.
09:42Next, if we talk about the range,
09:44this has a high battery but more power.
09:46The range of this is 130 km per charge.
09:49This is 140 km per charge.
09:51The top speed of this is
09:5380 km per hour.
09:55This is 70 km per hour.
09:57What do you think about this switch's
09:59initiative to give this EV
10:01to a commercial vehicle instead of a passenger vehicle?
10:03What do you think about the features
10:05and performance of this?
10:07If you own an EV,
10:09do you own an iEV3 or iEV4?
10:11Do you own an iEV3 or iEV4?
10:13Do you own an iEV3 or iEV4?
10:15Do you own an iEV3 or iEV4?
10:17Do you own an iEV3 or iEV4?
10:19It's me Giri signing off for Tamil Drives Park.
10:21See you in the next video.
10:23Until then, stay safe and drive safe.
