00:00The Philippines has now announced its intention to get a vaccine against smallpox,

00:05which is now being used in some countries as a battle against mpox.

00:14This is a tear-jerking news.

00:16One of the mpox infected in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Africa.

00:22The number of cases of mpox has already reached 27,000 since January 2023.

00:28More than 1,000 are in the wake, most of them are children.

00:32Now, the arrival of vaccines is being waited for in the DRC

00:35from the donation of some countries and manufacturers.

00:38In the Philippines, there is no supply of vaccines against mpox.

00:42But the Philippines has now announced its intention to get a vaccine against smallpox.

00:48The virus that causes smallpox came from the same family that was infected by the mpox virus.

00:54Because the crisis is in Africa, I think that's where they are prioritizing the supply of vaccines.

01:00But we are very much interested and we have already signified our intention to the WHO

01:06that once the global strategy has shifted and the distribution of vaccines has started,

01:10the hands of the Philippines are now raised.

01:12A mpox case is now being monitored by the DOH.

01:15The man is 33 years old and is from Metro Manila.

01:19According to the Kasan City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit,

01:22out of the 28 close contacts that are considered type 1,

01:26the chances of being infected are higher, making it difficult for some to contact them.

01:31We don't know if they are following the home quarantine at this time.

01:36They just don't want to talk to us for whatever reason.

01:40They can't tell us who they really encountered.

01:45So we're asking for their cooperation.

01:50For now, the local government has already written to the SPA's management in Kasan City

01:55on where the mpox patient went, even if they already have symptoms, to get more details.

02:01There are wrong information on the list that was given to them.

02:05There are some that are not consistent because we are looking for some.

02:08According to the Kasan City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit,

02:11they are diligently monitoring the condition of the close contacts of the 33-year-old mpox patient.

02:17It is important to help the close contacts so that the spread of the disease can be avoided.

02:22The Department of Health is also developing guidelines or health protocols

02:27for businesses that have close contacts with customers,

02:31including parlors, barbershops, and spas.

02:34No one will be left out if they wear gloves and face masks.

02:40Why? Because barbers, stylists, and beauticians have intimate contacts.
