Solider stabbed near Gillingham barracks discharged from hospital

Anthony Esan faces two charges in relation to the reported stabbing, including one of attempted murder.

00:04Well Bartholomew, we do know that 24-year-old Anthony Eason faces two charges following

00:10the attack on Lieutenant Colonel Mark Teton near the Brompton Barracks last month. One

00:17of attempted murder, the other possession of a bladed article. After the hearing today

00:22at Maidstone Crown Court, we now know when Eason will be facing trial over those charges.

00:29Eason's trial date is set to start on the 20th of January, where it is expected to last

00:34around three weeks and will be heard by a High Court judge. Meanwhile, formal reading

00:39of the charging document, known as the Arrangement, has been adjourned by the judge until September

00:4523rd. Of course, the reported stabbing of Lieutenant

00:49Teton has garnered a lot of attention from the media and senior politicians alike, as

00:55well as figures within the Army. At the time, at the head of the Army, General Sir Rowley

01:00Walker condemned the stabbing as horrific and unprovoked, while Prime Minister Sir Keir

01:06Starmer said he was shocked and appalled. The soldier, who was in his 40s and was wearing

01:12uniform when the incident took place, was reportedly knifed several times as he was

01:18walking along Sally Port Gardens with his wife around 6pm on the evening of July 23rd.

01:25He was believed to be living just minutes away from the military barracks in Brompton.

01:30Teton was then taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition and four weeks on from

01:37the alleged murder bid was discharged. He's continuing his recovery at the moment. Eason

01:42of Mooring Road, Rochester, was arrested by police around 30 minutes after the stabbing,

01:49with emergency services being called to the scene, including the Air Ambulance and Police

01:54Helicopter. Calls were also established around the location of the alleged stabbing and Mooring

02:00Road. Residents at the time said they were shocked by what happened on their doorsteps,

02:06but for now, we'll have to wait until the trial next year for further details.
