Baba Yaga: Fairy Tale Witch May be Real

Baba Yaga, the famous fairy tale witch of eastern European folklore is one of the strangest folklore figures, anywhere: living in a strange hut that walks on chicken legs, and flying around in a huge mortar and pestle. But, it turns out this staple of eastern fairy tales, in fact, has her origin in the pagan religion of the ancient Slavs, who populated eastern Europe, centuries ago. That means she has deeper roots, a greater spiritual significance, and (just possibly) is not entirely fictional. Could it be Baba Yaga was seen as real, in the old days?
