00:00Hello, good afternoon and welcome to the Results Show. Great to see you for what is pretty
00:15much a League Cup special. Special not just because Julie Fleeting and Cammy Bell are
00:19here, although it helps, but because there are four ties this afternoon. One tonight
00:24and three tomorrow as the competition enters the round of 16. At least that's what I'm
00:28calling it anyway. So let's get started, shall we? First up is the Falkirk Stadium, the Bairns
00:34at home to Hearts, and our friend Brian McLaughlin is there. Yes, good afternoon, David, where
00:39it's Falkirk 1, Harder Middle, Lothian 0. The only goal coming eight minutes into this
00:44second half, it came in a breakaway for the home side. Down the right-hand side, Adams
00:48it was. Down the right-hand side, his pace took him into the box. His cross was met by
00:52Ethan Ross, which gave Craig Gordon absolutely no chance between the sticks. But Hearts really
00:57should have had this game out of sight early on in the first half. Indeed, after 30 seconds,
01:01Liam Boyce had a chance after good work by Oda, but he blasted the ball over the crossbar.
01:06Then Vargas did manage to hit the crossbar, beating the goalkeeper, but then it was clear.
01:10Vargas again threw one-on-one. Hogarth again with the save. And then Yutaro Oda had the
01:15best chance, you'd say, for Hearts. He was through one-on-one, looked set to score, but
01:20again fired the ball straight at the goalkeeper. Hearts made eight changes today. Craig Gordon
01:25back in goal. Lauren Shankland on the bench. He's back off it now, trying to get Hearts
01:30back into this game. Just over 15 minutes left to play. It's Falkirk 1, Harrowman Lothian 0.
01:35Next we're off to Ainslie Park, home of League 2, the Spartans. They are playing Premiership
01:41Ross County this afternoon. Amy Canavan is watching.
01:45They are indeed, David. Good afternoon. The Spartans have never beaten a top flight team,
01:49but they are on course for doing just that this afternoon and pulling off a huge cup
01:53shock in their David v. Goliath meeting with Ross County. It is the Spartans 1, Ross County.
01:59Now mere seconds into the second half, Blair Henderson sensationally headed the hosts ahead.
02:03A beautiful looping effort over the reach of Ross Laidlaw. A wonderful cross from the
02:08right by Jamie Dishington. Any lower league or non-league fan will know those pair are
02:13quite the dynamic duo. And you can't say the Spartans didn't deserve it in the first half.
02:18They were the more creative, the more confident, and the more in control, just as Ross County.
02:23They are calling for a penalty, or the fans, the traveling fans certainly are. It's on
02:27the far side to me here at Ainslie Park. But yes, back to the sensational Spartans off
02:33the first half. Kami Russell twice came within close range, while Kieran Watson came within
02:37inches with an acrobatic effort. And in truth, in the last few moments, it really should
02:41have been two. Henderson again with a fantastic header from close range, denied only by an
02:46equally superb point black save from Ross Laidlaw. For County, they've huffed, they've
02:51puffed, they've shown the offside flag countless times as well, yet to truly trouble Jack Hezikorty
02:56in goals. His saves have been simple and straightforward, as my hair is blowing into my face. No trivials,
03:04he hasn't had too much to do. He is now off. He did force a half decent save though, out
03:09of Hegerty. What a result this would be for Dougie Samuel, the longest serving manager
03:13in the SPFL by a country mile. And just remember, Spartans only came into the SPFL this time
03:19last season. What an impact they are making so far. We are a little bit further behind.
03:23We've just got less than 20 minutes left here at Ainslie Park.
03:26Thanks very much, Amy. Let's hear now from Kerdin Edsan. It's destination dens for him this afternoon.
03:31Dundee of the Premiership at home to Championship Airdrie.
03:35And Dundee's destination is tomorrow's quarterfinal draw because they lead here by four goals to one in an incredible game, really.
03:45We've had all those four goals, numerous chances. Dundee, the bulk of the play as well,
03:49which you'd expect against lower level opposition. But Airdrie haven't been too bad.
03:53They've just not been able to cope with Dundee's extra level in quality.
03:58They'll also lose some of the goals. Three of Dundee's goals have come from corners.
04:03The first two in the first half, a scramble in the box.
04:06And Seb Palmer-Holden was on hand to strike home from close range.
04:09Then a powerful Jordan McGee header was just too good for Diamonds keeper Kieran Wright,
04:14who made a valiant effort to keep it out.
04:16Triple substitution at halftime helped Airdrie's momentum.
04:18Sub Rhys Armstrong hit the crossbar right after the interval.
04:22But after an hour of the game was done, a terrific through ball from the much sought after Luke McCowan was perfect for Scott Tiffany to run onto and smash the ball home.
04:303-0 tie over. Things got worse from there because Dylan McDonald was then sent off for hauling down Simon Murray.
04:37McCowan curled the resultant free kick off the post.
04:40But just moments ago, another corner, another header, another goal.
04:44Antonio Fortalez for Dundee, that was 4-0.
04:46And then Airdrie went right up the park, and Adam Frizzell has curled in a nice consolation goal, you would think, for them.
04:53Because with 13 minutes to go, it's Dundee 4, Airdrie 1.
04:57And it's Premiership vs Championship at Petaudry as well.
05:00Aberdeen are home to Queen's Park, let's welcome Tyrone.
05:04Yeah, David, we're 76 minutes gone here at Petaudry, it's Aberdeen 0,
05:09Championship, Queen's Park, I have to say, this is a game at the moment that has the feel of extra time.
05:14The Dons' life after Wojnar Majewski officially begins today,
05:18after the talismanic striker's big-money move to Girona in midweek,
05:22and you have to fancy he would have tucked away a few of the chances that his old side have created in this game.
05:28Aberdeen made a pretty impressive start, with Nicky Devlin, Jack McKenzie and Gavin Malloy all going close,
05:33but it was Queen's who almost broke the deadlock on 16 minutes.
05:38Zac Rudden's goal-bound effort was kept out by a sliding Jack Milne clearance,
05:43Dons keeper Dimitar Mitov then had to look very lively to parry a Jack Turner shot away.
05:49As the break approached, Habib Gueye's glancing header looked like it was going to nestle into the top corner,
05:56but Queen's keeper Callum Ferry really produced a wonderful save to tip the ball over the bar.
06:02Aberdeen striker Esther Sockler had the ball in the back of the net just after the interval,
06:07but the offside flag was up moments later.
06:11Jack McKenzie then Nicky Devlin, both fired wide from close range.
06:16Fair to say the home side are turning the screw a bit at the moment,
06:20but it remains Aberdeen 0-0.
06:24Thanks very much, Tyrone, I think we'll just start there.
06:27Aberdeen had been flying, but Queen's Park have clipped their wings a wee bit.
06:31Yeah, I think Aberdeen are off to such a good start this season.
06:35I think their League Cup campaign really strong, started the league really well,
06:41so I think they were always going to be the favourites on the home side.
06:45Yes, they've lost their top striker.
06:48Life after Majowski starts is a wee bit of an anti-climax.
06:52Yeah, he's probably a really tough player to replace.
06:56He had everything, he was an all-round striker and not only scored goals,
07:01but he probably was involved in an awful lot of their play.
07:04Sometimes it can be difficult to readjust.
07:07Certainly Queen's Park have gone and really made a game of it.
07:11You would have expected at this stage in the game for Aberdeen to be goals up,
07:15so it's still an exciting tie and all to play for.
07:18A wee bit of overtime coming for Tyrone, I think,
07:20because there could be extra time in penalties, extra time back in this round.
07:24Again, it's a tight game, as Julie said.
07:27Queen's Park will go up there with no fear,
07:29because there's not a lot for them to lose.
07:31There's everything to game, everyone expects Aberdeen
07:33at the start of the season to go and run over the top of Queen's Park,
07:37but they've proven to be a difficult opponent today
07:40and have kept it tight at the moment in time.
07:43Big story brewing at the Falkirk Stadium.
07:45Brian McLaughlin will bring us the details on another goal, Falkirk Hearts.
07:48We have a second goal for the home side.
07:52A little mix-up in the back of the defence for Hearts.
07:55They just made a change, the substitution with Taylor coming off,
07:58and it really was a mess at the back for Hearts.
08:01It was Dylan Tate, eventually, who knocked the ball into the back of the net.
08:05Falkirk now looking all set for a place in the last eight of the League Cup.
08:09What an upset this would be.
08:11It's Falkirk 2, Armad Lothian 0.
08:14Would that be A, an upset, B, a shock, C, a surprise,
08:17or D, none of the above?
08:19Or all of the above.
08:21No, listen, I think going there, Hearts would expect to win that game.
08:25They've got a strong squad, a huge budget compared to Falkirk.
08:28Falkirk have been winning games for so long,
08:30they're so used to it, they've got that momentum, confidence.
08:33Certainly at the Falkirk Stadium as well.
08:36They were expected to put on a performance,
08:38we'd known it was going to be a tough game,
08:40but they would have believed they could have won this tie.
08:43But it still is a surprise for me,
08:45because Hearts are one of our top teams in this country.
08:48Hearts haven't really got motoring, have they?
08:50No, they haven't.
08:51I think certainly the first half, it was a really good game.
08:54I think Hearts had a decent level of possession,
08:57really different for Falkirk.
08:58They're a possession team, they like to have the ball.
09:01They probably had to be patient,
09:03because they knew that Hearts would have a lot of the play,
09:06which they did.
09:08But what Falkirk still managed to do
09:10was always still pose that threat going forward.
09:13They've got their rewards from it,
09:15they've been such a strong side.
09:17Playing at home, their record there
09:19over the last year.
09:20So to have that home tie,
09:22they would have been going into it without any fear.
09:246,000 there as well.
09:26Yeah, a brilliant occasion.
09:28A team, for me, it's not a massive upset,
09:31but it is a shock.
09:33It is probably...
09:35It's a shock no bigger than an upset?
09:37Well...
09:38LAUGHTER
09:40For me, I think, you would have had your eyes on that game.
09:43The fact that Falkirk were playing at home,
09:46the fact that they're at home,
09:48and Hearts maybe haven't had the greatest of starts
09:51to their league campaign.
09:53It's been a brilliant game, though.
09:55Again, there's been a number of chances.
09:57Hearts probably could have been out of sight
09:59if they took their chances early on in the game,
10:01but the goalkeeper, Hogarth, has had a few brilliant saves.
10:03But then Craig Gordon at the other end
10:05had a brilliant save in the first half.
10:07So it's been very open and very tight.
10:09It's been a great game to watch.
10:11Is that Falkirk beating Hearts,
10:13is that a bigger surprise than the Spartans
10:15on course for their first ever win
10:17against a Premiership team?
10:19I think that would be a bigger surprise.
10:21As League Two against Premiership.
10:23Yeah, and I think the fact that Falkirk have been in form
10:26going into this game,
10:28they've played against top opposition already
10:31and got decent results,
10:33certainly decent performances.
10:35For Spartans, that's absolutely huge.
10:37If you're going to put out a Premiership side,
10:40that's an absolutely incredible, incredible result.
10:43They beat Livingston in the group stage,
10:45but this is a step up again.
10:47Yeah, and again, it's a one-off game
10:49that they need to win.
10:51It's a knockout game.
10:53And again, it's that man, Blair Henderson,
10:55he's done it for so long.
10:57He scores so many goals for Spartans,
10:59he's so important for them where they got.
11:01They just missed out on promotion last season.
11:03It looks as if the start of this season is fairly decent,
11:05but that's a massive result.
11:07As I look at 27 goals last season,
11:09you can't say Ross County wouldn't have been warned.
11:12No, they would have known the danger.
11:14I'm quite sure Ross County have had a lot of the ball,
11:18but of course, if you still have a striker
11:20in the other team who all they need
11:22is that one chance and they'll put it away,
11:24then you've got to really keep your eyes on them.
11:26All right, players all over the pitch,
11:28putting them away for Dundee this afternoon.
11:304-1 up against Airdrie,
11:32coasting into the next round.
11:34What a start to the season.
11:36Yeah, brilliant. They've been brilliant
11:38at the start of the season.
11:40Airdrie have conceded a lot of goals last week,
11:42conceding five against the United
11:44and then four today so far.
11:46It's been a difficult period for Airdrie,
11:48but again, what a period for Tony Docherty.
11:50Brilliant start to the season.
11:52I was working at Aberdeen against Airdrie
11:54in the League Cup group stage
11:56and Airdrie ran Aberdeen really close,
11:58but it sounds like they've just been blown away today.
12:00Yeah, and I think last week,
12:02like Cammy was saying, to concede five,
12:04they're probably not in a great place
12:06going into this game.
12:08When it is the cup,
12:10but Dundee are coming in on form,
12:12goal-scoring form as well.
12:14Brilliant result last week against Hearts.
12:16And what they do have,
12:18you've talked about four different goal-scorers,
12:20I think last season they were the same.
12:22They were getting goals chipping in
12:24from all areas of the pitch
12:26and I think that's one of the strengths
12:28that they've got and again this afternoon
12:30they're managing to hit heights.
12:32Just one game in the Championship this afternoon,
12:34but plenty of goals in the match
12:36Gullysingh will tell us all about it.
12:38Yes, David,
12:40it's been quite the turnaround here.
12:42It was Hamilton who went into
12:44half-time 2-1 up
12:46after going behind early on.
12:48It was a goal from
12:50Jamie Murphy for Ayr United
12:52after eight minutes. He gave the home side the lead.
12:54Ayr United did threaten to score
12:56a second before Hamilton found their way
12:58back into the game.
13:00They found a response on 26 minutes.
13:02It was through.
13:04He collected a Ewan Henderson lay-off
13:06to rifle the ball into the top right-hand corner.
13:08Then Jamie Berjonis in 38 minutes
13:10gave Hamilton the lead.
13:12A bit of a shock here for the home crowd,
13:14but Scott Brown, whatever he said at half-time,
13:16he got a response from his side.
13:18It was Marco Roos, who's just been named
13:20Man of the Match. A quite sublime effort
13:22from just outside the box
13:24got the better of Hamilton's keeper, Charlie
13:26Aubinson. Then on 66 minutes,
13:28George Oakley, who else?
13:30He gave Ayr United the lead after a remarkable
13:32pass and run from substitute
13:34Dylan Watret.
13:36Still currently Ayr United 3,
13:38Hamilton 2. We'll see if there's any more goals to come.
13:40We've got a few minutes left
13:42here at Somerset Park.
13:44Thanks very much, Gully. This is curious, isn't it?
13:46The sides played a couple of weeks ago, opening day of the season.
13:48Ayr United, comfortable winners then
13:50at New Douglas Park 2-0. This sounds
13:52a bit closer, but if Ayr United
13:54manage to get the win there, that's three wins
13:56from three. A brilliant start. They'll go clear
13:58at the top. Yeah, I think that's important
14:00as well when there aren't any other games
14:02on in the league. It's that opportunity
14:04for you to get ahead
14:06and I think to score three goals.
14:08They'll probably be disappointed to concede at home
14:10but they have the ability
14:12of scoring goals. Five last week.
14:14Five last week to the week
14:16before. So
14:18they'll be really pleased with that
14:20performance and also to get the three points
14:22on the board. It sounds like
14:24this is their first goal. They've been goalless
14:26in their first two games. It looks like they've
14:28run Ayr United close. I draw
14:30last week, it looks as if
14:32they're not going to be the team
14:34detached at the bottom by the looks of things.
14:36No, I think they're finding their feet
14:38in the league as well. Obviously they've just came up from
14:40League One last season so
14:42I think it will take a little bit of
14:44time for that transitional period to get used to
14:46Championship football. It's a much more
14:48competitive league than League One
14:50but yeah, they're showing signs today
14:52that they can compete but Ayr United have been brilliant
14:54at the start of the season. Really, really good.
14:56It looks as if, I said it before, a club on the up.
14:58They've got things going on behind the scenes, taking
15:00the club forward. Scott Brown in there
15:02as manager and some really good signings.
15:04George Oakley for me will be a really good signing.
15:06I think he's scored a number of goals this season for them
15:08and he could be one of the difference makers.
15:10Yeah, he's scored plenty
15:12of goals. Dow just scored plenty of
15:14goals as well, not scored today. And Henderson
15:16so it looks like plenty of goal threats for Ayr United.
15:18Yeah, I think so. I think they've built a
15:20really competitive squad for that league. I think
15:22Scott Brown will know
15:24from last season how
15:26tough a league it is, what it takes
15:28to get out of it and goal scorers is
15:30exactly what you require
15:32and at the moment it looks as if Ayr have
15:34got their strikers in top form. Yeah,
15:36Dundee are in top form as well this afternoon.
15:385-1 up.
15:405-1 they lead Airdrie at Dens Park
15:42there. It's Curtis Main, the old St. Martin
15:44and Aberdeen striker with the fifth goal for
15:46them so that's another goal threat.
15:48Yeah, and another goal scorer. I think
15:50that will really be
15:52pleasing for Tony Daugherty because
15:54to have five different people on the score sheet
15:56you're spreading out. They're obviously getting
15:58different types of goals when you look at the players
16:00who are scoring for them
16:02and if you can have a goal threat in all different
16:04areas of the pitch then that's a
16:06huge asset. I tell you what folks, Rangers
16:08are back at Hampden tonight as they start
16:10the defence of the League Cup. They're
16:12at home to St. Johnson in the last
16:1416 of the competition. It kicks off at
16:16a quarter to six. Live commentary
16:18in SportsZone but Alistair Lamont joins
16:20us now from the National Stadium.
16:22Mr Lamont, set the scene for us if you will.
16:24Well, it's a very quiet Hampden
16:26at the moment, David. It's what we got
16:28about an hour before kick-off but
16:30ticket sales by
16:32all accounts haven't been great. I think this
16:34could be only about a third full
16:36even come kick-off time. A few
16:38punters have made their way inside the
16:40National Stadium already
16:42to see if Rangers can recover from
16:44the European setback of
16:46Tuesday or whether St.
16:48Johnson can continue
16:50a decent start to the season. Certainly from last
16:52week they're a terrific 3-0 win down
16:54at Rugby Park. They're only
16:56making the one change from that side. No
16:58real surprise that Craig Levine sticks by
17:00most of that team
17:02with Aaron Essel out of the squad altogether.
17:04Graham Carey comes in for him.
17:06Rangers have made five changes
17:08altogether. Yilmaz, as we knew,
17:10is out injured. Lawrence is out of
17:12the squad as well. Baron, McCausland and
17:14Dessars drop out of the starting line-up.
17:16The big news is there's a first
17:18action for Danilo
17:20of the season. First action, in fact, since
17:22he was injured against Hearts back
17:24in December. Sterling
17:26Dowell, Czerny and Matondo
17:28also coming in. Zhefti
17:30retains his place in the starting
17:32line-up but he'll move back to left-back
17:34that after his dismissal here.
17:36Very harsh dismissal. I think pretty
17:38much everyone agrees against
17:40Dynamo Kiev on Tuesday.
17:42It's a big game. It'll be interesting to see
17:44how Rangers respond to that
17:46setback and whether St. Johnson
17:48can take advantage of maybe some bad
17:50feeling negativity around Rangers
17:52just at the moment. Thanks very much.
17:54That's Al-Hamdan Park there.
17:56It's early days yet. I mean, there's still
17:58time for fans to get in but
18:00can you kind of
18:02gauge how disappointed,
18:04disillusioned maybe Rangers fans
18:06are at the moment by the size of the crowd
18:08tonight or do you think, well, wait a minute, you've had to
18:10shell out for Champions League. You've got your
18:12ticket and you're paying for League Cup as well?
18:14I think there's a lot going on at Rangers at this
18:16moment in time. I think there's the
18:18disappointment of playing at Hamdan first and foremost.
18:20Fans don't want to be there. They want
18:22to be at Ibrox and then you've
18:24just fresh off the back a huge European
18:26disappointment. And as you say,
18:28there's financial implications with regards to
18:30season ticket holders don't get these tickets
18:32so I can't see there being a huge
18:34crowd there but Rangers, listen, the players
18:36need to go out on the pitch. They need to do the business.
18:38This is a trophy they want to win.
18:40They want to retain it. Absolutely.
18:42Again, they've got to react to the disappointment
18:44from Tuesday night. It was a hugely
18:46disappointing game but
18:48there was massive factors
18:50obviously.
18:52You don't think this was a foul?
18:54No, not for me. Absolutely not.
18:56Not even a foul. No chance of being a yellow
18:58card. I've always said the second yellow
19:00card, the referee has to be
19:02100% sure that it is a
19:04yellow card to give that second
19:06yellow card because that's a massive
19:08decision and it totally changes the
19:10complex of the game. He's jumped up early.
19:12He's put his arm in his face. No.
19:14He's not got his arm away from his body
19:16and then Rangers defended
19:18for long periods after that
19:20and this was a real disappointment with
19:2210 minutes to go to lose a goal like that.
19:24It was a good strike but
19:26it was a massive disappointment the whole night.
19:28Well, Philippe Clameau says
19:30that was the worst decision he's seen
19:32in 30 years for the
19:34second yellow. I don't know if you agree with
19:36that but it definitely changed the game but Rangers
19:38hadn't exactly been, it wasn't a vintage
19:40Rangers performance up to that point either.
19:42No but then, I mean
19:44I certainly thought that they looked like a better
19:46side in front of goal even before
19:48the sending off but Rangers
19:50were well in the game.
19:52For me, I don't know about the worst
19:54decision in so many years
19:56but certainly for me, I agree with Cammy. I don't
19:58think it's a foul. I think he's got up early
20:00and yes, his arm is in
20:02an unfortunate position because of where the
20:04ball is but there's always going to be some
20:06form of contact when you're going up for a header
20:08and it doesn't always necessarily
20:10need to be a foul and for me
20:12I don't think it was a foul. I think it's a flaw
20:14with VAR, the fact
20:16that you can't check a second yellow.
20:18You don't want more VAR though do you?
20:20You can't check a second yellow because that
20:22has massive implications in the game
20:24not just the game but
20:26financially for the
20:28team that's going to go through and for me
20:30to not be able to check
20:32that for them, not to say you've made a mistake
20:34or come and have a look at the monitor
20:36I think that's something that
20:38we'll need to change going forward.
20:40We'll return to our League Cup discussion
20:42but we're heading now
20:44to Pittodrie. Aberdeen against Queen's Park.
20:46Tyrone, big news.
20:48You can probably tell by the noise in the background
20:50that the deadlock has been broken here at
20:52Pittodrie in the second minute of
20:54added time and it's Aberdeen
20:56who have broken that
20:58deadlock. It was some lovely build-up play down
21:00the right-hand side by Vini Bezayan.
21:02The ball was then rolled across the face
21:04of goal. It was picked up by
21:06New signing, Big Money, Finnish signing
21:08Topi Keskinen and he did a
21:10beautiful little roll away from his defender
21:12before smashing the ball high into the net
21:14to make it 1-0
21:16to Aberdeen here at Pittodrie.
21:18Four minutes of added time still to play.
21:20Thanks Tyrone. Still playing there but it's all over at
21:22Dens, Kennedy Edsan, Dundee
21:24Airdrie. Dundee
21:266, Airdrie 1.

34:08What an occasion for them.
34:10To get into the quarter finals is absolutely incredible.
34:12One game from Hamden.
34:14For a club of that size.
34:16Unless they get Rangers next time.
34:18Yes, they're growing.
34:20They're growing every season.
34:22But to be at this stage
34:24and to get that result
34:26is just absolutely incredible for them.
34:28It just shows you if you've got a goal scorer
34:30and you can try and create opportunities for them
34:32then you're always in with a shout.
34:34As Amy alluded to
34:36it's a real community club, isn't it?
34:38It is, and they're growing as a club as well.
34:40They've recently just got into the leagues
34:42and they're progressing, but that result today
34:44is astonishing to be honest.
34:46League 2 to a Premier League team
34:48there's a massive difference between that.
34:50As Julie said, having that striker
34:52that focal point, Blair Henderson
34:54he's a big lad, he puts his seal about
34:56but he's a goal scorer. Having him in your team
34:58you've always got a chance.
35:00It's quite a disappointment for Ross County
35:02because that was an opportunity for them to get into the quarter-finals
35:04and have a good cup run.
35:06Dawn Cully would be disappointed today.
35:08Hearts would have been desperate for a good cup run as well
35:10and the League Cup probably their best chance
35:12of silverware.
35:14A club like Hearts
35:16they're always going to be pushing in the top half
35:18of the Premiership, but also
35:20what they do want is the opportunity
35:22to get to a cup final, to have that chance.
35:24They're going to have a really busy schedule
35:26that's the only thing that
35:28possibly could be a consolation for them
35:30is that they're going to be really busy
35:32with European football.
35:34They made lots of changes
35:36so eight changes to their starting line-up
35:38they had players playing who probably
35:40haven't played a great deal of football
35:42over the last few weeks
35:44or even months or more.
35:46Players who have been out injured
35:48but when you look at their bench
35:50their bench should have been good enough to come on
35:52and change the game and make a difference
35:54you have to give all credit to
35:56Falkirk to come up against a really good
35:58Hearts side and to win
36:002-0 is just a massive result.
36:02You talk about coming on off the bench
36:04and making a difference, that's what Aberdeen's
36:06new signing did, what a way to announce
36:08yourself, come on and score a
36:10stoppage time winner.
36:12Brilliant start for him, brilliant start for Aberdeen
36:14in general and it just kind of sums up where they are
36:16at the moment, they're getting over the line, they're getting victories
36:18and they're keeping that momentum going
36:20and the manager will be delighted that it's not
36:22went to extra time.
36:24He's got the job done in 90 minutes
36:26and as I say it just keeps that feel good factor at Aberdeen going.
36:28Time for a quick shifty
36:30of what's coming up football wise on BBC
36:32Scotland folks, the League Cup last 16
36:34action in sports and continues
36:36tomorrow at midday, three
36:38tasty ties there, there are two
36:40live matches in the SWPL
36:42Rangers vs Partick Thistle
36:44from two on the iPlayer
36:46and Celtic v Glasgow City on BBC
36:48Alba at four, Jane has highlights of all
36:50the weekend's SWPL one action on
36:52Sunday at seven on BBC Scotland
36:54and there's two live European matches
36:56courtesy of Sportsland on Thursday
36:58with Hearts in the Czech Republic
37:00and Kilmarnock in Denmark
37:02so there you go.
37:04Now there are three League Cup ties tomorrow
37:06after their Nordic exertions, Kelly
37:08and St Martin are away to Motherwell and Dundee United
37:10respectively while Celtic are at home
37:12to Hibs just a week
37:14after the teams met at Easter Road
37:16in the Premiership, Julian
37:18it was a convincing
37:20win for Celtic. Yeah it was
37:22and I think just looking here
37:24at the first goal you can see
37:26Kyogo playing on the shoulder, really dangerous
37:28I felt he should probably have slipped
37:30Koon in then, a goalkeeper
37:32maybe going to be disappointed that he hasn't
37:34got more on it, more on the shot
37:36but all credit James
37:38Forrests, follows it in
37:40and it's a good finish in the end but for me this
37:42is a brilliant goal, just absolute
37:44typical Callum McGregor
37:46looking to get on the ball, adjusting his position
37:48all the time and he takes a great
37:50first touch on his left foot
37:52and absolutely smashes it into the net
37:54and yeah it was quite
37:56a comfortable victory for
37:58Celtic in the end and it sets them up
38:00nicely to take that fixture
38:02back to Parkhead
38:04It doesn't set Hibs up very nicely
38:06though and it's been a poor start to the season
38:08for them, lost to Celtic
38:10which you might expect, lost quite heavily
38:12away to St Mirren
38:14Yeah I think the St Mirren one is the damaging one
38:16I think losing to Celtic
38:18there's probably no shame in that for Hibs
38:20where they are at the moment, in this moment in time
38:22but the damaging one was the St Mirren one
38:24I don't think they should be getting beat to a team
38:263-0, albeit St Mirren have sat out the
38:28season really well, but yeah
38:30it's going to be a tough sort of
38:32three weeks for David Gray and he's going to have to
38:34turn it around pretty quickly
38:36St Mirren meanwhile away to Dundee United tomorrow
38:38this is an intriguing
38:40fixture for a number of reasons
38:42not least Jim Goodwin who won
38:44the League Cup as captain of
38:46St Mirren 2013
38:48the year after cameo on it
38:50and he's got a Dundee United side
38:52trying to put the buddies out
38:54what's your thoughts
38:56going into this one?
38:58I think it's probably a good time
39:00to play against St Mirren if you're
39:02Dundee United, you're probably happy about
39:04when this fixture's came about because
39:06I think it's going to be
39:08difficult for St Mirren
39:10having came off the back of the game on Thursday
39:12that would have taken an awful lot out of the players
39:14and the travel as well
39:16although they're not
39:18quite
39:20they have still had a strong start
39:22this season, St Mirren, and you do feel
39:24for them, but to go to Tannadise
39:26coming off the
39:28back of that game on Thursday, I do fear
39:30that it could end up
39:32falling into Dundee United's favour
39:34Is the Thursday-Sunday turnaround more difficult than the Sunday-Thursday?
39:36Yeah, but again what I would
39:38say is this is a huge opportunity for
39:40both clubs, I think St Mirren need to dust
39:42themselves down because they'll want to progress and try
39:44and get to a final and try and win a cup
39:46I think it's a huge opportunity for Dundee United as well
39:48and in no disrespect to Falkirk or
39:50Spartans, but both sides know
39:52that they've progressed today and that
39:54could be a tie you could face in the quarter-final
39:56so I think it's a huge
39:58tie and St Mirren's
40:00focus will completely have went
40:02from Thursday night disappointment straight on to
40:04the game tomorrow because it's a big game
40:06No disappointment for Kelly
40:08Cam, he's quite happy there
40:10No disappointment for them, great result
40:12for them away in Tromso, knocking them
40:14out of Europe and Kelly
40:16go into a game against Motherwell which
40:18they'll fancy themselves
40:20They will, but again, they'll just be
40:22absolutely over the moon with that result
40:24the European game, it was just
40:26absolutely incredible for a club like
40:28Fomarnock to progress and
40:30still have European football to
40:32play, so a huge, huge
40:34result and a difficult
40:36tie again coming off the back of that game
40:38it would have taken an awful lot out
40:40of the players, they're not a club who probably
40:42have a massive squad where they can make lots
40:44of changes and still continue
40:46to keep the standard high
40:48Motherwell having not won
40:50so far this season
40:52they'll look into the cup to try and
40:54really kick start their season and
40:56get them grinding out results
40:58so a big game for them
41:00Huge week for Kelly because they've got this
41:02game and then they're away in Denmark
41:04to Copenhagen on Thursday
41:06Yeah, difficult for Derek McInnes
41:08to find a team to win both games
41:10I know he spoke about...
41:12What's the priority? Can you have such a thing?
41:14No, I think he's just got to take it
41:16as you're all saying, game by game, but I think he did
41:18speak after the game and said he's going to have to rely
41:20on the guys that haven't played because they put
41:22so much into Thursday night, there'll be guys
41:24probably carrying a few knocks
41:26Has he got a big enough squad? He's not at the moment
41:28No, I don't think he does have a big enough squad
41:30but I think he's got a good enough squad
41:32to compete with Motherwell
41:34Yes, he would like his fresh
41:36starting XI, his first choice starting XI
41:38to be on the pitch to take on them, but
41:40I think he's going to have to rely on
41:42these guys that have been on the bench
41:44putting in big performances to try and get them over the line
41:46tomorrow. Yeah, if Motherwell
41:48didn't have bad luck, they'd have no luck at all
41:50their new striker's out for six weeks
41:52Apostolos Stamatolopoulos
41:54Just when you've managed to
41:56That might be right
41:58It might not be
42:00Yeah, I think it's difficult when
42:02I mean, we've talked about the budget that Komarnik
42:04have and they've not got as big a squad as
42:06your old firm teams and probably
42:08Hearts, etc
42:10but Motherwell are exactly the same
42:12you're relying on trying to keep your best
42:14players fit, your goal scorers, which
42:16I'm sure they were hoping he was going to
42:18come to Motherwell and hit the back
42:20of the net, so it'll be
42:22a huge blow to them that they can't rely on
42:24him and looking to see
42:26who's going to step up to the plate
42:28Has it been such a run of injuries
42:30this early on in the season, Kevin?
42:32Listen, it's been really tough for Stuart Kettlewell
42:34but again, they need to try and navigate their way
42:36through this, it's really difficult
42:38and it's such bad luck
42:40I'm pretty sure he's looking at everything at the moment
42:42the training schedule, is it anything
42:44to do with that or is it just pure bad luck
42:46so I'm really disappointed for Motherwell
42:48but they've got an opportunity tomorrow
42:50to try and progress into this quarterfinal
42:52of the Cup. Right, now I didn't talk about St Johnson
42:54because we get cut off with lots of stuff
42:56happening but St Johnson Rangers tonight
42:58St Johnson actually go into this on the back of a really
43:00really good result. Yeah and
43:02I think a result that probably surprised
43:04quite a few people because rugby
43:06is a difficult place to go to
43:08and get a result and I think
43:10the fact that it was such a convincing
43:12result as well, yes
43:14Kilmarnock did lose a man
43:16when Joe Wright sent off but
43:18certainly they looked convincing
43:20from the very start, St Johnson
43:22and yeah I think coming
43:24off the back of that result, they'll go to Hamden
43:26pretty confident. And it's Craig Levine, former
43:28Scotland manager, back at Hamden
43:30That's it for today's episode of
43:32The Result Show, we're back on league duty
