02:34career is about to end. Just ignore her, Luke said as they drove away. She may be talented,
02:42but she's way too arrogant. She's right, though, Emma replied with a sigh. I'm not young anymore.
02:48You're 27, he said. Your whole life is ahead of you. But I feel way too old to be playing these
02:56entertainment industry games, she thought. I don't care about fame anymore. Why can't I keep acting
03:03and start a family at the same time without dealing with all this drama? Have baby formula
03:08companies actually come looking for me? Emma asked as Layla's snarky comment echoed in her head.
03:15No, they haven't. Luke replied. Emma let out a relieved laugh, knowing that he had never been
03:24good at lying. Soon after they arrived home, Eliza had prepared a healthy meal and was waiting for
03:30Emma to return. You forgot your phone, she said, pointing to the bedroom upstairs. You had a few
03:37missed calls in the afternoon. Emma fetched her phone and sat down at the dining table.
03:44She saw the missed calls were from Caitlyn and called her back.
03:48Emma? Caitlyn said, her voice trailing off. Emma's expression turned serious as she sensed that
03:54Caitlyn was upset. What's wrong? She asked. It's nothing, Caitlyn replied. I just got back from a
04:03dinner party and I'm exhausted. I wanted to visit you earlier, so I called you, but you didn't
04:09answer. Did something happen? Did you get into an argument with Louise? Emma asked. You must
04:16have heard about Kaleidoscope's new secret weapon, Layla Green, right? Caitlyn said. She's something
04:24else. What happened? Emma said. Louise was handling her events, but she was taking up a lot of his
04:31time, and he kept coming home late because of it. Caitlyn replied. He decided to share the workload
04:38with somebody else so that we could have more time together. I'm not sure if I'm just being paranoid,
04:44but I feel like Layla is mad that he isn't giving her his undivided attention anymore.
04:49She's up to no good. I just know it. Emma's heart dropped. Caitlyn has plenty of experience with
04:56industry drama. She thought if her gut is saying something isn't right, then something is definitely
05:01off. Why do you say that? Emma asked when I met with a client in the hotel to discuss a job.
05:08My assistant suddenly disappeared from the room for a few minutes. Caitlyn said. I didn't think
05:15too much of it at the time, but during my lunch with Louis this afternoon, he received an anonymous
05:21email with a picture of the client and me in the hotel room together. I'm sure Louis knows that
05:27someone is just trying to stir up trouble, so you shouldn't worry about it, Emma said. Why do you
05:33think it was Layla's handiwork? The only reason I'm suspecting her is because she warned me to
05:39be careful. Caitlyn replied. Maybe you should be careful then, Emma said. That is a bit suspicious.
05:47Thanks for calling. Caitlyn said as a background noise began to drown out her voice. I feel a lot
05:54better now that I got that off my chest. I hate to do this when we barely have a chance to talk,
05:59but I have to go pick Maria up from school now. It's okay, Emma said. Drive safely.
06:08I'll talk to you soon. Layla probably sees Caitlyn as a threat since she's one of Kaleidoscope's top
06:14artists too, she thought as she hung up the phone. Just what is she planning? Emma turned to Luke.
06:22Send me all the information you have on Layla, she said. We should definitely look into her
06:27further after that incident in the parking lot. He replied. I'll get right on it. Luke returned
06:34to the agency the next day and gave Layla a verbal warning and sent Emma some information on her.
06:42After dinner that night, Emma lay on the sofa and looked through the files Luke had sent.
06:48She's got a pretty impressive pedigree, she thought. There are celebrities in three generations
06:54of her family. No wonder she got famous so easily. As she waited for Eric to get home from his trip,
07:01she fell asleep in the living room and had a nightmare that Layla was strangling her
07:06and kicking her stomach when she woke up in a cold sweat. She was back in her bed and Eric
07:12was lying next to her. She wrapped her arms around him to calm herself down.
07:18I'm not dreaming, am I? She asked. Not anymore. Eric said, hugging her tightly. I came home
07:26earlier than expected. His face grew concerned as he turned to Emma. Something happened to Caitlyn,
07:32he said. Episode 668. A Brutal Attack. What happened? Emma asked as her stomach sank.
07:43We were just talking on the phone last night. Eric hugged her as he handed her his phone.
07:49News stories flooded social media saying that Caitlyn had been attacked by a dog while protecting
07:53her daughter. The bites on her legs were so severe that the doctors were considering amputation.
08:00Are you sure this is her? Emma asked in shock. Maybe there was a mix-up. She's at the hospital
08:07right now, he said. I'll take you to see her. I need a minute. She said that she felt the
08:14room close in around her. She sat up on the ledge of the bed and read the full news story.
08:21Police have confirmed that the vicious dog attack on international supermodel
08:25Caitlyn was an accident and have taken the dog's owner into custody.
08:30The dog was known to be aggressive and it had escaped from the owner's yard.
08:35Emma tried to process the information, but her head spun as she thought about what Caitlyn
08:40had told her the night before. The news had detailed the entire incident and said that
08:45the dog's owner had already offered to compensate Caitlyn for the accident.
08:50How can the owner possibly compensate her? She wondered. Her modeling career is ruined and she
08:57might not even be able to walk anymore. Seeing her distraught expression, Eric kneeled down
09:03and brushed his hand across her cheek. Lewis will make work arrangements for her and try to reduce
09:09the impact of the accidents on her career, he said. I hope so, Emma replied. I can't imagine
09:17how crushed she feels right now. After they ate breakfast together, they drove to the hospital
09:24as the incident had happened the night before. The doctors had already performed surgery to
09:29try to save Caitlyn's leg, but when Emma and Eric arrived, she was still unconscious.
09:35Lewis was sleeping on the sofa with Maria and she woke up when she heard the couple enter the room.
09:42Daddy, someone's here, she said as she tugged on his sleeve. As soon as he spotted Emma,
09:48he quickly sat up. We managed to save her leg from amputation, but she'll be scarred forever,
09:55he said as he looked at Emma. She might never be able to walk on the runway again.
10:00I can't bring myself to tell her. Maria burst into tears. She was trying to save me. She said,
10:09it's all my fault. It's not your fault, sweetheart. Lewis said he took hold of her shoulders and
10:16turned her so that he could look her in the eyes. You didn't do anything wrong. This was just an
10:22accident. Nobody could have prevented it from happening. Okay. As Maria slowly nodded, Caitlyn
10:29started to open her eyes, struggling to remember what had happened the day before. It's okay,
10:35Maria, she said as she reached out toward her. Maria ran over and hugged Caitlyn gently,
10:41and Emma joined her at the bedside. What happened? Caitlyn asked. I just remember jumping
10:47in to stop the dog lunging for Maria. Everything went dark after that. Emma's face softened as she
10:54looked at Caitlyn. There's no easy way to say this, but your injuries are severe and you might
11:01not be able to walk on the runway for a while, she said. The bites are going to leave some
11:05scarring on your leg, too. Is that so? Caitlyn replied. She seemed to not react to the bad news,
11:15but Emma could practically hear the sound of her heartbreak. Although Caitlyn had often said that
11:20she didn't want to model anymore, left now with no choice. Sadness and disappointment consumed her.
11:28Louise grabbed her hand. I won't give up, he said. I'm going to make sure you get the best
11:33treatment possible. This won't end your career, I promise. As long as Maria is okay. It doesn't
11:41matter what happens to me, she said. I need some time to think. Please give me some space. Everyone
11:49looking at me with pity. It's just making things harder. I'll get going then, I said. Call me if
11:56you want anything. I'll be here for you whenever you need me. On the way home, she received a text
12:04message from Caitlyn telling her not to worry. How can I not be worried? She wondered. She was
12:11fine yesterday, and her whole life got turned upside down in an instant. Life is so unpredictable.
12:18Worst of all, no matter how much Louis tried to help Caitlyn, the fact that she had been so badly
12:25injured meant that she would lose opportunities to advance her career. People were always coming
12:32and going in the industry, and if she took too long to recover, she might be completely forgotten.
12:39Emma leaned her head against Eric's chest. Caitlyn is such a proud person, she said.
12:45We need to keep her options open for her sake. Eric wrapped his arm around her shoulder and
12:52pulled her into his arms, and they sat in silence as they thought about how to help their friend.
12:58That afternoon at the Green Home, Layla woke up and found her assistant Quinn
13:03waiting for her in the living room. Quinn hadn't been assigned as Layla's assistant by Kaleidoscope.
13:10They had been close friends since high school, and she had followed Layla into the industry
13:14after her debut. Everything went according to plan. Quinn said that dog really did a number on her.
13:21I guess I overestimated Emma and her friends, Layla said as she sat down on the sofa.
13:28Ruining their lives isn't as difficult as I expected. Your plan was pretty clever though,
13:34Quinn replied. I never would have thought to slip a dog treat into Maria's pocket.
13:40The dog couldn't help himself. Now that we've taken care of Caitlyn, what should we do about Emma?
13:47Layla rubbed her chin with her hand and fell into deep thought. We're going to need something
13:54different to deal with her, she said. Another dog attack won't cut it. Her baby, she said,
14:01her eyes widening at the thought. That's her weak spot. If she suddenly had a miscarriage,
14:08she would be devastated. She's already eight months pregnant, Quinn replied.
14:13Miscarriages are very rare. So late in pregnancy, what are you suggesting? We need to hit her where
14:21it hurts, Layla said, but we have no chance to make a move, Quinn said, her stomach turning as
14:29she realized what Layla had in mind for Emma. How do we not have a chance? Layla asked. Emma and her
14:37mother-in-law are on bad terms. Isn't this the perfect opportunity to get rid of her, using
14:42someone else to do the dirty work? Hasn't Marjorie gone through enough because of Emma? Quinn said,
14:49we can use her anger to our advantage, Layla said. She'll be happy to help us take Emma down.
14:56I just need you to set the wheels in motion. What do you mean? Quinn asked. You're a part
15:02of Kaleidoscope now, so you know what's going on in the agency. Layla replied, you just need to
15:09make up a story and leak it to Marjorie. What story should I make up? Quinn said, you could
15:15start a rumor that Emma wants Marjorie to be the nanny after the baby's born and that she won't
15:20take no for an answer. She said, use that as a starting point and go from there. How do you come
15:27up with these schemes? Quinn asked, looking at Layla with admiration. It's why I never fail.
15:35Layla responded, I hate it when people get in my way. If we get rid of that baby, we'll actually
15:42be doing Emma a favor and saving her career. She should be thanking us. Quinn felt a cold chill run
15:49down her spine, but she still did what? Layla asked. They've been working together for many
15:55years, so she understood Layla's temper well and didn't want to trigger it by refusing to help.
16:02Their target was Emma's baby, and Emma viewed her baby's life as more important than her own.
16:09What if we mess this up? Quinn wondered as she bit her fingernails.
16:15Emma will never let us get away with it.
