00:26share the video comment and like episode 669 a surprising discovery. Although police had
00:35confirmed that the dog attack had been an accident, Emma had a lot of lingering questions
00:40about the attack and about Layla who had seemingly popped out of nowhere to cause trouble.
00:45She looked through Layla's information and realized that she hadn't exactly popped out
00:50of nowhere. Emma just hadn't taken notice of her before they had met in a parking lot.
00:56Almost half of the top songs on the charts were Layla's. She was an extremely talented and
01:01prolific songwriter and she had a beautiful singing voice. On top of that, she was also an
01:08impressive screenwriter. She had started off as a famous author but had later been invited to help
01:14write script adaptations for tv dramas and films and she had quickly become well known in the
01:20industry. Even though she's so arrogant, she's still the whole package. Emma thought.
01:28No wonder Kaleidoscope snapped her up as soon as they had the chance.
01:33She looked through Layla's accomplishments for a while and then sighed before picking
01:37up the phone to call Lewis. Have you checked the surveillance cameras yet? She asked.
01:43I did, Lewis whispered, trying not to wake Caitlyn. Let me have a look at them, she said. Do you think
01:52you'll find something suspicious? He asked. I already looked through the footage multiple times.
01:59It was definitely an accident. Just let me have a look, she insisted. I know you must be exhausted
02:06from everything and you might have missed something. He couldn't argue with her so he emailed
02:12the footage to her. If you find anything new, let me know right away, he said. But honestly, I feel like
02:20you're being kind of paranoid. We'll see if I'm paranoid or not. After I examined the footage,
02:26she thought and then hung up the phone. She took her laptop into Eric's study and played the footage
02:32on the projector so she could look at it in detail. The footage showed that Caitlyn had used a valet
02:39in the underground parking garage in her apartment complex to park her car.
02:44Maria didn't like the smell of garbage and was afraid of the dark. Afterward, Caitlyn held onto
02:51Maria's hand as they headed for the front door of the apartment block. Just as Caitlyn started
02:56punching in the password for the main lobby, a large black dog had pounced onto Maria as it
03:02tried to tear her jacket off. Caitlyn tore Maria's jacket off and threw it toward the angry dog,
03:09but it had let go of the jacket and pounced for it again. Caitlyn tried to run away with Maria in
03:15her arms, but the dog locked its teeth onto her leg and wouldn't let go. Once the owner had seen
03:21what was happening, he rushed over and tried to pry the dog off Caitlyn's leg. Emma played the
03:26footage over and over again. It certainly seems like it was an accident. She thought the owner
03:32had no idea his dog had gotten loose. But why did it jump on Maria like that? She picked up
03:40her phone and called Louis. Did you keep the clothes that Maria wore during the attack?
03:46She asked. I threw everything away, he replied. They were all covered in blood.
03:54I didn't want to keep anything around that might remind Maria of the attack. Forget about it then.
04:01She said with a sigh. What did you find? He asked. It did look like an accident,
04:08but it's weird that the dog pounced on Maria for no reason. She said there has to be something
04:14that caused it to attack her. She must have either provoked the dog or been carrying something that
04:20it wanted since Caitlyn was with her the whole time. I don't think Maria would have had a chance
04:27to provoke the dog, so that only leaves the second option. Is there anything she might have
04:33been carrying that would have triggered it to jump on her? Not that I can think of, he replied.
04:40By the time I got there, the doctors had already removed her bloody clothes to check if she had
04:45any injuries and put her in a hospital gown. I took her clothes and threw them in a trash can
04:50outside the operating room while Caitlyn was having surgery. Let me see if they're still
04:56there. He left Caitlyn's hospital room to check the trash can outside the operating theater.
05:02Luckily, the custodian hadn't emptied it yet, and the clothes were lying inside as he pulled
05:07the blood-stained clothes out of the trash to examine them. His stomach turned, but he kept
05:13his composure as he searched every pocket to see if there was something they had missed.
05:18He felt a hard lump in her pants pocket and pulled out a small dog treat. What's this doing
05:25in here, he wondered, turning the treat over in his fingers. Maybe this is what set the dog off.
05:33He picked up his phone to call Emma back. I found a dog treat in Maria's pants pocket, he said. I
05:39have no idea where she would have gotten it. Let's start the investigation and find out where that
05:45treat came from, Emma replied. If this was a planned attack like you're suggesting, I don't
05:51understand why someone would put the treat in Maria's pocket instead of Caitlyn's, he said.
05:59What's so hard to understand, Emma asked. Maria is a much easier target. No one would blame a
06:07child for innocently putting something in their pocket like that without knowing what could
06:11happen. They knew that Caitlyn would step in to save her and get hurt in the process. The culprit
06:17must be truly evil to do something like this. She already had a good idea of who the culprit was,
06:24but she needed to prove it. At the same time, she had no idea that Layla was targeting her too,
06:30and it had become a race to see which woman would outwit the other first.
06:34After she was done examining the footage, Emma looked down at Eric. He had just gotten home from
06:40work and had fallen fast asleep on the living room sofa. He's been trying so hard to get his
06:46work done early so he can spend more time with me, no matter how exhausted it makes him. She thought
06:53he really needs a break. She gently nudged him awake. I finished looking at the footage. She said,
07:01let's go to the bedroom and get some rest. I'm sorry I had to wake you up, but I can't
07:06exactly carry you up there myself. He opened his eyes and laughed as he slowly stood up.
07:13Did you find anything interesting? He asked, holding her hand as they walked upstairs.
07:19We can talk about it in the morning, Emma said.
07:22EPISODE 670 SOME REAL COMPETITION
07:27With the evidence in his hands, Louise met with the dog's owner, but the owner didn't understand
07:32what had happened either. He had told Louis that the dog had bitten someone when it had been a
07:37puppy, but it had just been an excited nip. The dog had never attacked anyone before. Louis returned
07:45home and asked Maria about the treat in her pocket, but she said that she didn't know anything
07:51about it. He then went to speak to her kindergarten teacher. The teacher said that the classroom had
07:57a jar of dog treats for when she brought her dog in to visit. So Maria must have taken one from
08:02there. Maybe Emma really is being paranoid. Louis thought, I should go back to the hospital
08:10and spend more time with Caitlin. None of this would have happened if I'd been there with her.
08:16He called Emma to tell her what the teacher had said, and she sat in silence as she listened.
08:22It seems like he covered all the bases, she thought. I still feel like Layla is behind this,
08:29but what can I do to prove it when everything makes it seem like it really was an accident?
08:35A few days passed after Caitlin's incident, and the media sucked the last bit of her fame dry
08:40before their attention shifted to the latest hot news story. From that moment on, there was no
08:47longer any news about her. Within the entertainment industry, standing out was hard and being
08:53forgotten was easy. As Caitlin's runway shows and endorsements were given away to other models,
08:59Emma's heart felt like it was turning into ash, inch by inch. But there was nothing she could do
09:06to keep as many options open for Caitlin as possible. Emma had made phone calls to several
09:12industry contacts, including TQ's George Benedict, the famous French designer Clementine, and others.
09:19No one else is going to rescue her, Clementine said, no matter how much you worry about her.
09:26She needs to stand back up on her own. No one can do anything about it. I'm just being stubborn,
09:33Emma replied. I agree with you, but I can't help feeling like there's more I can do.
09:39While Caitlin was recovering at the hospital, Layla received an award for songwriting,
09:44and her popularity skyrocketed. Emma clenched her fist. So this is what it's like to finally
09:52have some real competition. She thought a few days had passed since Layla had suggested her plan to
09:58Quinn, but Quinn hadn't put it into action yet. Instead, she had spent most of her time trying
10:05to understand Marjorie's daily routine and secretly following her around. She knew that for the plan
10:11to be successful, she would have to time things perfectly. So she waited patiently for the right
10:17time to arrive. It had been a long time since Marjorie had caused trouble for Emma, although
10:23she hadn't wanted to accept defeat. The entire nation had scolded her, and Jeff had threatened
10:29her. She had no choice but to retreat and temporarily focus on her research. Marjorie
10:35was drinking tea inside a cafe with a few research colleagues, and they started gossiping about Emma
10:41in front of her to see how she would react. Her expression was cold the entire time, and she
10:48refused to take part in the discussion. Instead, she excused herself to the bathroom to avoid the
10:54gossip as she grabbed her handbag and left the bathroom. She bumped into Quinn.
11:00Sorry, she said, and then she started to walk away, but Quinn pointed to her and asked,
11:06Aren't you Emma's mother-in-law? Marjorie's expression turned sour as she waited for
11:11Quinn to ridicule her like the others, so she started walking away faster.
11:16Is everything all right? Quinn asked. I have something I need to do, so I'll be on my way,
11:24Marjorie said as she continued to leave. Quinn nodded and smiled as she watched her walk away,
11:29but before Marjorie had gotten very far, Quinn chased after her and grabbed onto her sleeve.
11:36Actually, I heard a few rumors about Emma, and I'm not sure if they're true, she said.
11:42What rumors? Marjorie asked. I'm not sure if I should tell you, Quinn said. I won't tell anyone
11:49you told me. Marjorie replied after pretending to think about it for a few seconds. Quinn leaned
11:56over and whispered into Marjorie's ear. I'm sure you know the rules at Kaleidoscope, she said.
12:03No one's allowed to leak secrets to the public. I didn't want to say anything, but my conscience
12:09told me to tell you. I hope you can keep this a secret for me. Marjorie's face had gone from pale
12:15to bright red in her fury. I'm an accomplished scientist, she thought. How dare Emma suggest
12:22that I be her baby's nanny now? After everything she's put me through, I don't want anything to
12:27do with her. I won't tell anyone about this, she said. It's just between the two of us. You should
12:34decide what to do as soon as possible, before she floats the idea around even more. Quinn said,
12:41placing her hand on Marjorie's shoulder before walking away. Marjorie was so overcome with rage
12:47that she didn't notice that Quinn had left. She leaned against the wall to support herself as
12:52she trembled. I can't just sit around and let her suggest something so ridiculous, she thought.
13:00People might start thinking that I'm actually going to help her with the baby,
13:04and then they'll never let me live it down when I refuse. But I can't be roped into being a nanny
13:10if there's no baby, she thought. She quietly stalked Emma as she tried to find a chance to
13:17strike. She noticed that Emma went to the hospital for a checkup every Friday, but aside from that,
13:23she barely ever left home. Eliza stayed home alone and cooked Emma's meals while she was at
13:29her appointments. That's my chance, Marjorie thought. If I can sneak in while she's away
13:35and find a way to pin the blame on Eliza, I'll be killing two birds with one stone.
