00:07While appearing on Bill Maher's podcast Club Random, the filmmaker gave his two cents on
00:11the incident that occurred in October of 2021, when Baldwin, a star and producer on the Western
00:17film, accidentally shot and killed cinematographer Helena Hutchins after being given a prop gun with
00:23live rounds. The topic was brought up when Maher joked that the actor was asked to host the Oscars
00:28but, quote, couldn't do it. He was shooting. Maher then asked the filmmaker,
00:32how can it be Baldwin's fault? Like, either you think he purposely shot that cinematographer
00:36or you think he didn't purposely shoot her. But Tarantino responded, no, noting,
00:41the armorer, the guy who hands him the gun, is 90 percent responsible for everything that happens
00:46when it comes to that gun. Tarantino did, however, state that the actor is 10 percent responsible
00:52in this type of situation. It's a gun. You're a partner in the responsibility to some degree.
00:57Tarantino explained that if Baldwin went through the steps that he's supposed to go through,
01:01then he should know better. When asked by the host why prop guns can't be empty and have gunshot
01:06sounds added in post-production, Tarantino remarked, I guess I can add digital erections
01:11to porno, but who wants to f***ing watch that? He added that it's exciting to shoot the blanks
01:16and to see the real orange fire and not add orange fire. Earlier this year, Baldwin faced
01:20a trial for involuntary manslaughter. The case was ultimately dismissed in July.
