00:00All right, kapuso!
00:02Of course, a lot of people are inspired to do gymnastics
00:06after the victory of the Philippines in Paris.
00:09And this morning, we have exclusive lessons from an Olympic gymnast,
00:14Ms. Suzy Ann Shira,
00:16Gymnastics 101 partner. Let's go!
00:23Hello, good morning!
00:25Good morning! Good morning!
00:27Good morning!
00:28I'm so happy to be here with Shira.
00:30This morning, we have young, inspiring, and hopeful gymnasts here.
00:35We also have gymnasts who are scholars.
00:37Yes, that's right.
00:38Of course.
00:39She's our special guest.
00:41I agree.
00:42We're very, very lucky today because she's here with us.
00:46And of course, we won't miss the chance to ask her questions,
00:50talk to her, and teach her.
00:52That's right.
00:53We're going to have fun.
00:54That's why we're here.
00:55Let's welcome everyone!
00:57Ms. Levi Ruivivar!
01:03Wow!
01:05Stick it!
01:07Stick it!
01:08What an entrance, man!
01:10Good morning!
01:12Good morning, everyone!
01:14First of all, congratulations and thank you for representing the Philippines
01:18here at the Paris Olympics.
01:20And how was the experience?
01:22It was incredible.
01:24I mean, where do I even start?
01:26It was amazing just being able to go out there and showcase all the years of training
01:31since I was 18 months old.
01:33Oh my gosh!
01:3418 months old.
01:35How does that even work?
01:37I don't even know.
01:38You just learned how to walk?
01:39I didn't even know what gymnastics was.
01:41I mean, my mom just kind of, I had so much energy.
01:43I was hanging off the furniture.
01:45So, she's only 18 months old and she's already hanging herself.
01:47For sure.
01:48She said she was hanging herself.
01:50So, maybe she was hanging herself when she was a kid.
01:52That's so cute!
01:53It became a dream.
01:54Right.
01:55And then you made it to the Olympics.
01:57Alright, so how does it feel for you and the rest of your team?
02:01It's like the first time in six decades that we had an artistic gymnastics representation
02:07at the Olympics.
02:08It was meant so much to me because, you know, when I first qualified to the Olympics,
02:13I actually didn't know that.
02:15And then someone told me that this is the first time in six decades that anyone's gone
02:20to the Olympics for the Philippines.
02:22And I think that it really meant a lot to me because, you know, it was always a dream of mine.
02:27I know it's a dream of a lot of other Filipino athletes here today.
02:31And I think because of that, it meant so much more to me.
02:35And to be able to make that history for this country is just incredible.
02:39And then to share that experience with everyone else in the Philippines too is amazing
02:43because it makes other people excited, which makes me even more grateful and happy.
02:48And we're so glad you're here.
02:50And of course, because you're here, and these kids are seeing you,
02:53and they know that the dream is real.
02:55It's achievable.
02:56It is.
02:57I can't wait to go to the Olympics just like Levi.
03:00And their age, the kids here.
03:03Some of the kids here are close to your age.
03:05You're 18, right?
03:06Yup, I'm 18.
03:07So this is the first of many Olympics maybe?
03:09Hopefully.
03:11How young were you when you started?
03:1318 months.
03:1418 months.
03:16I can't actually walk.
03:18I just started, and my parents were just like,
03:21Do you want to do gymnastics?
03:22I did not even know what it was.
03:24And I was like, Yes, Mommy!
03:26I can only say, meant to be Olympian.
03:29And you enjoyed it through the years.
03:30That's why you reached that level.
03:32And of course, we're seeing the kids here behind you,
03:34so inspired by you being here.
03:36So they're doing their warm-ups.
03:38There are still a lot of people interested in the Olympics,
03:41I mean, sorry, in gymnastics.
03:42Gymnastics.
03:44Because of the great showing of our Olympians at the Olympics.
03:47So what are they doing now?
03:49They're doing a bit of their warm-up?
03:51Right now, they are doing some splits.
03:53As you can see, the coaches are making sure they are in the right posture.
03:58What you want to see is make sure their toes are pointed,
04:00their chest are up, their hips are square.
04:03That's really important.
04:04If you're doing beam or something, and your hips are crooked,
04:07and you try to do a leap, you're going to fall off.
04:09So that's why they're making sure their hips are square.
04:12Is the beam the hardest? It looks the scariest.
04:14The beam is the scariest, I would say.
04:17The beam is 4 inches wide.
04:20And it's also hard.
04:22It's a hard surface, yeah.
04:23If you miss the beam, and you slip down the side, and get bruises,
04:28it's not very fun.
04:31So that's what they should learn, right?
04:33To focus.
04:34And now, Ate, these kids are so lucky
04:37because Levi himself is going to teach them.
04:42This is our first gymnastics skill that they will learn.
04:46Alright, I'll give you the mic.
04:48There you go.
04:50Alright girls, can I see some handstands, please?
04:54And stand down.
04:58Wow!
05:00Wow!
05:04We're going to talk to one of the aspiring gymnasts here.
05:07Good morning, what's your name?
05:08Hi, my name is Andy Valdes.
05:10Andy Valdes.
05:11Andy, how long have you been doing gymnastics?
05:13I've been here in PGAA for 10 years already.
05:1610 years!
05:17Oh my gosh!
05:18And how old were you when you started?
05:20I started when I was 4, but I came to PGAA when I was 5.
05:23Oh my gosh!
05:24You're already old when you started.
05:26Because she's 18 months.
05:27Wow!
05:28Wow, she's 4 years old.
05:30What's your dream for yourself?
05:33Right now, I don't have a necessary goal,
05:35but I just want to do my best here in PGAA,
05:37and serve my role as a gymnast here.
05:39Nice.
05:40What's your favorite routine in gymnastics?
05:42Favorite routine, I have to say floor,
05:44because it shows off my artistry,
05:47and I have to say I have pretty good leaps in artistry.
05:50I also want to have confidence, right?
05:52I know what I can do, right?
05:54I know what I'm good at.
05:55How does it feel to meet Levi?
05:57It's such an honor because she's been my idol for so long.
06:01And seeing her in the Olympics,
06:03representing the Philippines,
06:04it's really amazing.
06:07You've inspired a lot of young gymnasts, right?
06:11The dream is real and achievable.
06:13Maybe you can show us, Levi?
06:16I heard you can do an amazing backflip.
06:18There.
06:20There, okay.
06:22A beautiful line.
06:24Wow!
06:28That was gorgeous!
06:29Look at her legs, her posture.
06:31It's beautiful.
06:33Her legs are beautiful, and the long line.
06:35Usually, what does a judge look for?
06:37How can you tell that you did a good job?
06:39Because sometimes, when you guys are done with routine,
06:41I can see on your faces that you know you did a good job.
06:44That's very true.
06:45We have a lot of time and energy into perfecting our gymnastics,
06:49and you work with your coach in figuring out
06:51what the judges are specifically looking for.
06:54As you can see, when she went, she did an excellent job.
06:57The judges would be, yeah, excellent job.
06:59Wow!
07:02The judges would give that a really good score
07:05because she had a beautiful body line and posture
07:08before she started this skill.
07:10She's already beautiful.
07:12Chest up, chin up, straight line,
07:14her toe is pointed, her knee is straight.
07:17It's like she's bending.
07:19Yes.
07:20For instance, if your foot is flexed,
07:23and your knee is bent, that's a deduction.
07:25If your toe is pointed and your leg is straight,
07:28that's less of a deduction.
07:30You get points taken away from your skill if it's bad.
07:33Minus, minus, minus.
07:34Whatever they see as a mistake, minus, minus.
07:36All right.
07:37Well, it was such a pleasure talking to you
07:39and, of course, learning from you,
07:40especially for the kids that we have here
07:42who are aspiring Olympians maybe someday.
07:44Thank you so much for joining us.
07:46Thank you so much.
07:47We wish you all the best.
07:49All right, more training, more training.
07:51Rubina Champ, thank you so much.
07:54Thank you for joining us this morning.
07:58Let's give a round of applause to Ms. Aliva.
08:02Wow.
08:03Okay.
08:04All right.
08:05All right, all right.
08:06Let's try this, Ate.
08:07Okay.
08:08I can't do handstands.
08:09Ready.
08:16Yeah!
08:17You did it, Ate!
08:20Good thing you didn't jump.
08:23Wow!
08:27All right.
