01:00The announcement of the Canadian government immediately aroused strong dissatisfaction with the Chinese Embassy in Canada.
01:05They accused Canada of being completely harmful and unfavorable.
01:09The ambassador said that the Canadian government's behavior is typical trade protectionism and political leadership.
01:16This is nothing more than a normal trade cooperation between China and Canada.
01:20He emphasized that China is relying on technological innovation, a perfect industrial supply chain system and a sufficient market competition for rapid development.
01:28He criticized that Canada's accusation of China's over-capacity is groundless.
01:33He said that China will take all necessary measures to safeguard the legitimate rights of Chinese enterprises.
01:41The Canadian government announced yesterday that from October 1, it will receive 100% tariffs on electric vehicles imported from China.
01:48Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Kelly said that although China and Canada have important diplomatic relations,
01:54including $1 trillion in trade every year,
01:57she emphasized that this increase in tariffs is in the interest of the Canadian people.
02:01We've taken a very strategic decision which is to protect the EV supply chain in Canada and of course in North America.
02:09And that's why it was so important for us to impose tariffs like we did.
02:14Now this decision was taken based on what we thought was in the interest of Canadians.
02:19When the Canadian government announced tariffs on Chinese EVs,
02:23U.S. Secretary of State for National Security Sarah Levin was in Canada for an interview.
02:28But she said that this announcement was Canada's own decision.
02:31The U.S. did not back down.
02:33But she believes that a large amount of subsidies for EVs will lose a fair competition environment.
02:39It's not for the U.S. to try to dictate.
02:42And what we see is really two distinct challenges.
02:46One to do with overcapacity, which we have talked about quite openly.
02:51And Canada will make its own determinations.
02:53But the U.S. does believe that a united front, a coordinated approach on these issues benefits all of us.
