00:19Now they're ready to play games for keeps and I find it interesting that I always get
00:28a kick out of people acting like when Jerry and Steven have to do a deal like the CD Lamb
00:34deal that took a couple months to finally come to a head and they got it done and they
00:39gave him all this money.
00:41I always find it interesting how people act like, you know, on a daily basis for two months
00:47that it's never going to get done because how will they ever afford it?
00:51How will they ever afford paying Dak?
00:54How will they ever afford paying Micah?
00:57Well, they're worth $10 billion is how they can afford paying all of their players.
01:05It's amazing to me how stupid people are.
01:07They always get these deals done eventually.
01:10It's just a matter of when, not if.
01:12Most definitely, and I want to start off with a couple of things.

01:36Regarding the Cowboys, thank you, and regarding the Cowboys, yeah, they've never not gotten
01:42a deal done with the player they wanted to sign and they always get the deal done under
01:47their deadline.
01:48Now, we can argue all day whether they should have got it done earlier, whether they could
01:51have got it done earlier, but there was never any doubt in the Cowboys' mind that they
01:57were going to get this deal done with C.D. Lamb.
01:58Maybe the fans got anxious, certainly Lamb got anxious when you were sitting out there
02:03by yourself in the wilderness and your teammates in camp, but the Cowboys always knew they
02:08would get this thing done and him in the fold in time for the start of the regular season
02:13and that's what happened.
02:15And he's their, I mean, honestly, he's their whole offense.
02:20I mean, that's all they do, Dak throws to him.
02:22I know they have other players, but let's face facts, he's like, in his entirety, his
02:28offense, what he does with that ball, when they throw to him, big things happen.
02:33They score, they rack it up, he led the NFL in everything, receptions, touchdowns, I mean,
02:40the guy's a freak, he deserved the money.
02:42There's no doubt, and he is the only thing that scares you on that offense, let's say
02:48that, you know, there's no other player on that offense, the defense is, you know, the
02:53defense coordinator is going to stand up at night saying, how do we stop him?
02:56And so he is the focal point of the attack, he's the number one receiver.
02:59He gets the great majority of the targets and that's going to continue, and yeah, they
03:04needed to get him in because he and Dak make this offense go.
03:08So do you think they should give, I don't think they're going to, Dak the money now
03:16as opposed to next year when they're going to have to pay him 60 million per?
03:24Yeah, I mean, let's be honest about this.
03:27You don't invest in CeeDee Lamb, give him the copy of money you gave him,
03:30record-setting deal, and not ensure he has a quarterback that you maximize that
03:35investment, and that's not with some rookie or somebody off the street.
03:39That's with a guy that you know that can get him the ball, and that's Dak Prescott.
03:42Certainly, the Cowboys want to get a deal done with Dak Prescott.
03:44Dak Prescott wants to stay with the Cowboys.
03:47Now, mentally, how do they meet on the money?
03:49The baseline for any deal is 55 million.
03:52Dak has a no trade clause, a no tag clause.
03:56According to everybody that knows these things,
03:58he could get 60 million plus on open market.
04:01So if the Cowboys and Dak, they need to come somewhere in between that before March.
04:07I don't think it's going to happen before the start of the season.
04:10It doesn't have to happen before the start of the season, but
04:12it has to happen before the start of free agency in March, for sure.
04:15Because Dak Prescott, whenever he signs,
04:18wherever he signs, will be the highest paid player in NFL history.
04:23Listen, he's got to win playoff games.
04:27They blame Jerry Jones for everything because he's
04:33this gigantic titan of an owner who obviously can't get enough of himself.
04:38Yesterday, he was doing interviews talking about nobody else can do what I do.
04:42I'm not hiring anyone else.
04:44Everyone else can kiss my ass.
04:46I'm the best GM we've ever had, all the rest, in not so many words.
04:50But the reality is people blame him for their playoff failures, don't they?
04:56Instead of this guy, Dak Prescott, who I think is very exciting,
05:02a very good player, but the bottom line is in the playoffs, he sucks.

05:37That's not Dak Prescott.
05:38The Cowboys have not gone to the NFC Championship game or
05:42the Super Bowl since they last won a title in 1996.
05:46That's Jerry Jones.
05:47Jerry Jones, that whole stink of the Cowboys having four playoff wins
05:53since I showed up in 1997, that's not me, that's Jerry Jones.
05:57He has to take that on, that.
05:59That's included in Detroit, the Quincy Carter years,
06:03the Tony Romo years, all of that.
06:05Now get to Dak, the last three years, they've gone 12-5, 12-5, 12-5.
06:09They have one playoff win to show for it.
06:11Dak needs to be better in the playoffs, there's no question about that.
06:13Mike McCarthy was taking his team to 12-5, 12-5, 12-5.
06:18The only coach that's won more games than him is Andrew Reid.
06:20Andrew Reid has two Super Bowl titles.
06:22Mike McCarthy has one playoff win.
06:25Micah Parsons, great linebacker, who's next year when he gets paid,
06:29he'll be the highest paid non-quarterback in NFL history.
06:32Right now, CeeDee Lamb is the second highest paid non-quarterback in NFL history.
06:37They all need to play better.
06:38Yes, Dak needs to play better.
06:40But that defense was atrocious last year against Green Bay.
06:43They couldn't stop a nosebleed.
06:45The quarterback in his first start had a perfect quarterback rating.
06:48The running back rushed for 150 yards and three touchdowns.
06:51They couldn't stop anything.
06:53Dak didn't play his best game, but the defense certainly didn't give him a chance
06:55to play the best game.
06:56The whole organization needs to find a way to play their best football in January.
07:03That includes Dak Prescott, who again, at some point,
07:06will be one of the highest paid quarterbacks in NFL history.
07:10Speaking of nosebleeds, the Star-Telegram must have a nosebleed after losing you.
07:14They're not gonna be able to stop that nosebleed.
07:18How did that come to fruition after almost three decades there that you walked to do

07:29Obviously, they stole you from the Star-Telegraph, right?

07:36Yeah, I mean, they recruited me, stole me, however you want to do it.

07:43They have a site in Philly, Denver, Phoenix, and Chicago.
07:48And they just opened a site in Dallas.
07:50And I'll be doing more podcasts.
07:52You know, this is a digital game.
07:53The game has changed.

08:12I really felt, you know, a lot of pride working there and representing the city of Fort Worth.
08:18But the journalism industry has changed, as you know.

08:24Certainly, we're going to three days a week at Star-Telegram.
08:27In our print product, we've lost a lot of employees.
08:30I don't know what the future holds in that space.
08:33This is a new future, a new journey, a new frontier.
