00:00Hi, welcome back to my channel. In this video, I will explain the ending of Somewhere Quiet,
00:04so let's begin.
00:06Somewhere Quiet is a 2023 American psychological thriller film written and directed by Olivia
00:11West Lloyd. The movie follows a woman as she readjusts to normalcy after a kidnapping.
00:16Her sense of reality begins to deteriorate when she travels to her husband's family compound.
00:22Meg is whisked to her husband Scott's family home to recuperate after escaping a kidnapping
00:25months earlier. Her attempts to unwind and deal with what happened to her are thwarted
00:30by the paranoia she begins to feel after meeting her husband's cousin, Maren Ireland, who is
00:34dismissive and eerily close to Scott, for the first time.
00:37Meg begins to question who really was behind her kidnapping and whether her husband is
00:41telling her the truth about any of it, here is everything you need to know about the ending,
00:45just to let you know this video will contain spoilers.
00:48As Meg and Scott head to a remote cottage, Meg comes across some really scary incidents
00:52that mess with her head. First, at a gas station, she sees a poster with her face saying she
00:57went missing, which freaks her out, hinting at a past trauma that still haunts her. It
01:01makes her doubt her husband and feel super vulnerable.
01:05When they reach the cottage, things get even weirder. Meg starts seeing things after getting
01:09to the cottage, like a strange lady in the jungle, which makes her feel like someone
01:13is watching her. Inside the cottage, things get even weirder when she sees Scott sleepwalking
01:18and getting way too close to her. But when she tells Scott about it the next morning,
01:22he acts like it never happened.
01:24To make matters worse, Meg finds a broken plate one night, but it's gone the next day,
01:28leaving her confused and paranoid. She tries to talk to Scott about her feelings, but then
01:33his cousin, Madeline, shows up, making Meg even more uncomfortable.
01:37Meg keeps having hallucinations and struggles to control her emotions. Meg tries to avoid
01:42her, but she still gets roped into things, and Madeline's insensitive behavior towards
01:46Meg doesn't really help either.
01:48She opens up to Scott about how awful she feels, like she is trapped in her own nightmarish
01:52past, and remembers how she used to count her kidnappers' footsteps to prepare herself
01:56for the torment she was about to face.
01:58But then she starts noticing a weird relationship between Scott and Madeline, like they're too
02:02close, and their intimate gestures and exchanged glances stir suspicions within Meg.
02:07As if that's not enough, a guy named Joe at the beach tells Meg that Scott was here before
02:11last winter, which Scott never mentioned.
02:14Meg starts feeling like she can't trust anyone, especially Scott.
02:18She tries to distract herself by fixing an old bike in the garage, but deep down, she
02:22knows something's not right in her relationship with Scott.
02:25All these leave Meg feeling isolated and unsure of what's real and whom she can confide in.
02:30She's desperate for answers about who did the kidnapping and a way out of the psychological
02:33mess she's trapped in.
02:35How did Madeline torment Meg?
02:37As Meg wandered through the woods, she stumbled upon Madeline's house and walked in, hoping
02:41for some respite.
02:43But instead, she found herself in a place filled with unsettling reminders of death.
02:47A portrait of Madeline's drowned little brother hung on the wall, casting a shadow over Meg's
02:51already anxious mind.
02:54Madeline's casual talk about suffering and loss only added to Meg's discomfort, setting
02:57the stage for what was to come.
02:59In the junkyard outside, Meg found the broken plate she had seen before at her cottage,
03:03even though Scott said it wasn't there.
03:06This contradiction left Meg confused and on edge.
03:09During dinner, Meg's unease grew as Scott and Madeline laughed and joked, making her
03:13feel like an outsider in her own home.
03:15When Madeline tried to take Meg's plate before she finished eating, Scott brushed off Meg's
03:19discomfort, making her feel even more anxious, saying that Meg did not know how to eat in
03:22front of others.
03:24This further intensified Meg's anxiety, prompting her to devour her meal in haste.
03:29That night, Scott's apology for the kidnappers poisoning her food brought back painful memories
03:33for Meg, leading to a tense argument that left both of them shaken.
03:37The next morning, Scott apologized to Meg, saying that he would do anything for her.
03:41Meg wanted to leave that place as soon as possible, but a punctured tire delayed their
03:45departure, leaving Meg feeling trapped and frustrated.
03:48Seeking distraction, Madeline suggested they come to the old cabin for a fun game night
03:52to get their minds off things.
03:54But Meg felt even more isolated as Scott and Madeline started mingling without her, making
03:58her feel like she did not belong with them.
04:01The sight of the broken plates quote in a charades game only added to Meg's paranoia.
04:05Things took a dark turn at the beach when Meg saw Scott and Madeline being intimate,
04:09making her feel sick and disgusted.
04:11Unable to bear being around them any longer, Meg fled on her bike, accidentally killing
04:15Madeline's dog in the process.
04:17When Meg returned to the cottage, she discovered Scott and Madeline talking behind her back,
04:22confirming her suspicions that something was very wrong.
04:24Furious, Meg stormed into Madeline's house, only to find a shocking document outlining
04:29the need for help for Meg as an incapacitated person.
04:32Suddenly, Madeline appeared out of nowhere and asked for Meg's help in finding her missing
04:36dog.
04:37But Meg, worried that Madeline might get angry, confessed that she had accidentally killed
04:41the dog and hit her from behind so that Madeline couldn't attack her.
04:44When Madeline woke up, Meg demanded to know if Madeline or Scott had planned her kidnapping.
04:49In a chilling response, Madeline suggested that Meg was doomed to succumb to her torment,
04:53unable to separate reality from illusion.
04:56She hinted that Meg might become a burden or even take her own life.
05:00Meg's screams echoed with the weight of her trauma as she grappled with the horrifying
05:03implications of Madeline's words.
05:05The confrontation escalated when Scott entered the room, with Meg accusing him of orchestrating
05:09her kidnapping for his own financial gain from Meg's trust fund.
05:14Scott denied the allegations, but his aggression toward Meg only fueled her fear.
05:18Terrified for her life, Meg ran into the jungle, haunted by nightmarish visions of Scott and
05:22Madeline plotting to drown her on the beach.
05:25During Somewhere Quiet's ending, Meg tries to escape from the terrible situation she's
05:29in.
05:30Meg gets into a passing car with a gun in hand, desperate to get away from the cottage
05:33and the pain caused by Madeline and Scott's betrayals.
05:36But as Meg drives away, she realizes she doesn't know where she's going.
05:40She wonders if leaving will really help her escape the terrible memories haunting her.
05:45Meg feels trapped, like she's stuck in a maze of her own thoughts and fears.
05:49She wonders if she'll ever be free from the darkness inside her mind.
05:53With nobody to help her, Meg feels lost and alone, weighed down by the burden of her suffering.
05:58Perhaps Madeline's words held a glimmer of truth, she had indeed become a burden, not
06:02only to herself but to all those around her.
06:05Perhaps being trapped in the haunting grip of her past, she might convince herself that
06:08rather than burdening others, she should finally seek solace by ending the nightmarish existence
06:12altogether.
