00:00Hi, welcome back to my channel.
00:02In this video, I will explain the ending of Mars One.
00:04So, let's begin.
00:06More than the political aspects, Mars One, Marte, ummm, originally, explores the humane
00:12facets of a family and its members' individual lives.
00:16Written and directed by Gabriel Martins, the 2022 drama movie narrates the story of a middle-class
00:21family in Brazil.
00:23As they navigate their way through changing political regimes and economies, certain issues
00:27make it harder for them to stay united.
00:30The stirring tale of familial relationships, evolving dreams, and parental pressure to
00:34be flawless form the heart of the narrative.
00:37Cicero Lucas, Camila DamiĆ£o, Carlos Francisco, and Regine Faria play the focal characters
00:42of the movie.
00:44In their own unique ways, the four family members want a better life for themselves.
00:48They want to break free from the shackles of their routine life stricken with money
00:52problems.
00:53Furthermore, all of them are quiet dreamers.
00:56Their dreams and aspirations go beyond the usual hopes for success.
01:00Without further delay, let's find out how the ending of a Mars One impacts the main
01:04characters, spoilers follow.
01:07The movie starts out with subtle glimpses into the lives of Diovinho, Eunice, Wellington,
01:11and Tertia.
01:12Diovinho plays soccer and loves stargazing.
01:16His father, Wellington, encourages Diovinho to play the sport with enthusiasm.
01:21In the meanwhile, Eunice, Diovinho's sister, helps out their mother, Tertia, in the kitchen
01:26with household chores.
01:28She tries to urge Tertia to make Diovinho contribute to menial tasks around the house.
01:33Accentuating the set gender norms of a patriarchal society, Tertia brushes away the topic and
01:38the conversation.
01:39Eunice goes to a bar to let loose and have fun.
01:43She meets a wonderful woman named Joanna and they dance together.
01:46Eventually, Eunice and Joanna start dating in secret as the former's parents are unaware
01:51of her sexuality.
01:53Back at home, Diovinho explores the avenues of becoming an astrophysicist and watches
01:57space exploration videos.
01:59With their mother's birthday around the corner, the siblings huddle together to decide on
02:03a gift and a party.
02:05The latter goes smoothly as all guests enjoy dancing and drinking.
02:09Tertia temporarily works as a housekeeper.
02:11However, it is not a stable income and often burdens her.
02:16As she gets lunch at a diner one afternoon, a horrible prank unfolds where a man explodes
02:20a small dynamite bomb.
02:22The incident traumatizes Tertia and leaves her in horror.
02:26From that point on, she feels terrorized whenever she hears fireworks or any loud noise.
02:31When she tells her family about the prank, they laugh and dismiss her fears.
02:35Consequently, she feels ignored and neglected.
02:38On the other hand, Joanna and Eunice decide to move in together as they both want to live
02:42away from their parents and have some freedom.
02:45Tertia and Wellington reluctantly agree as Eunice comes to terms with coming out to her
02:49parents.
02:51Moreover, this seems to be the tipping point in the plot as things start sliding downhill.
02:56How does DiAvinho break his leg?
02:58Since the beginning of the movie, we see Wellington living vicariously through DiAvinho in terms
03:03of playing and enjoying soccer.
03:05In a lot of ways, Wellington is fulfilling his dream by pressurizing, more than encouraging,
03:10his son.
03:11From regular practices to even taking a leave from school, everything is acceptable as long
03:15as DiAvinho sustains his position as a star soccer player.
03:19Additionally, this shows how popular the sport is in Brazil.
03:23When Wellington meets a famous soccer player at his workplace, he asks him for help with
03:27DiAvinho.
03:29The player makes arrangements for DiAvinho to perform in the tryouts for a popular soccer
03:33club.
03:34While Wellington gleefully agrees, he doesn't know that DiAvinho has other plans on that
03:38day.
03:39At the family dinner, DiAvinho tells his dad that he has to attend another event that day.
03:44With the help of his sister, DiAvinho books a ticket to a live session with famous astrophysicist
03:49Neil deGrasse Tyson.
03:51Caught in a tense situation, DiAvinho gives in to his father's persistence and does not
03:55fight further.
03:57The next day, as usual, DiAvinho's friends call him a chicken for not riding his bike
04:01down a hill.
04:03Tired of hearing the insult, he closes his eyes and rides his cycle to the bottom of
04:07the hill.
04:08In the blink of an eye, his bike tumbles over.
04:11To his father's dismay, he breaks his leg in the accident.
04:15A plaster on his foot translates to the fact that he will not be able to play in the tryouts.
04:20More than caring for his son's safety, Wellington yells at DiAvinho for not being careful.
04:25Furthermore, Wellington feels his dreams coming crashing down due to DiAvinho's carelessness.
04:30On divulging further, we believe DiAvinho purposely breaks his leg.
04:34In the movie, he comes across that hill and his friend's name calling at least twice.
04:39But his decision to ride the hill at that exact moment comes from more than petty insults.
04:44He feels pressured to do something he does not want to do by his father vis-a-vis soccer
04:48and professional tryouts.
04:50Without caring about DiAvinho's dreams, Wellington imposes his decisions on him and expects him
04:54to do as he says.
04:56The pressure and subsequent inability to fulfill his father's dreams culminate in DiAvinho
05:01falling from the bike and injuring his leg.
05:04On some level, he feels it's easier to hurt himself rather than hurt his father's feelings
05:08by telling him no.
05:10Does Tertia's curse get lifted?
05:12The mother of the family, Tertia, gets an unusual feeling that she attracts bad juju
05:16to the people around her.
05:18It starts with the horrible prank that leaves her stunned.
05:21The second incident happens when Tertia is on the dance floor and feels claustrophobic.
05:27As she steps outside, another woman faints and falls to the ground.
05:31Tertia is terrified as she keeps experiencing bad things following her.
05:35On top of that, she is unable to fall asleep at night and feels a constant tightening in
05:39her chest.
05:41Things get worse when she mistakenly threatens the life of her employer.
05:44Due to bad juju, DiAvinho throws up constantly and feels sick.
05:49Tertia blames herself as she bought the groceries for him.
05:52Moreover, she goes to a traditional shaman to get the negative energies lifted.
05:56However, they still keep following her wherever she goes.
06:00Once, while traveling in a bus, she shoves a passenger sitting beside her and injures
06:04him badly.
06:06At home, she discusses her fears with Wellington and they agree to send Tertia away for a weekend.
06:11We believe the curse lifts when Tertia rushes home to DiAvinho when he hurts his leg.
06:16She later gets to know that the bus she was supposed to be on falls off a cliff.
06:20Thanking her stars, she revels in the acknowledgement that she is alive.
06:25She spends the day with her family as things start getting better.
06:28Finally, she peacefully falls asleep with her beloved family by her side.
06:33This implies how crucial a family's support can be in life.
06:36When everyone comes together, they can fight anything from a bad curse to joblessness.
06:41Why Does Wellington Get Fired?
06:44Wellington works at a residential complex where he cleans and takes care of the surroundings.
06:49His colleague, Flavio, believes in revolution and getting the better of rich people who
06:53exploit workers in poverty.
06:55Their boss, Dersinia, trusts Wellington as he has been working there for a long time.
07:00Whenever she goes out on a trip, she leaves the keys with Wellington to water the plants
07:04and feed her pet cats.
07:06On one such day, Wellington has to leave early to get a health certificate for DiAvinho's
07:10soccer tryouts.
07:12He tasks Flavio with the responsibility of watering the plants and feeding the cats at
07:16Dersinia's place.
07:18However, Flavio has ulterior motives, and he cleans out the place with his friends.
07:23Flavio robs Dersinia of all her possessions and runs away.
07:27When Dersinia finds out, she blames Wellington because she left the key with him.
07:31As a result, Wellington is fired from the job.
07:34Furthermore, the situation reflects how untrustworthy people can be.
07:39No matter how sincere they look, you never know what lurks behind their innocence.
07:44Flavio made his plans clear in the first place, but Wellington had been unaware of his seriousness.
07:49This turns out to be Flavio's way of igniting a revolution against wealthy people.
07:54In his opinion, rich and successful people who live in mansions make money off of poor
07:58people's backs.
07:59By robbing Dersinia, he gets one step closer to his mission for equality.
08:04That's all for now, folks.
