00:00Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the best and funniest spoof
00:08scenes in movies, no matter how big or small the reference is.
00:20Number 20.
00:21The Snozzberries from Willy Wonka.
00:23Super Troopers.
00:24Vermont state troopers pull over a car where the occupants are using narcotics.
00:28They tried to ditch the drugs by ingesting a ton and throwing some out the window, but
00:32it didn't work.
00:33The troopers, Thorny and Rabbit, enjoy messing
00:42with the guys before they place them in the back of a patrol car.
00:45A bit later, after a high-speed chase, one of the guys is seen licking the divider window
00:49of the car and says that the Snozzberries taste like Snozzberries.
00:53In Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, one of the products produced by Wonka is lickable
00:57wallpaper where if you like certain fruits, it'll taste like said fruits, and included
01:01is the Snozzberry.
01:08Number 19.
01:09The T-1000 from Terminator 2 Judgment Day.
01:12Wayne's World.
01:13Wayne's World is filled with tons of classic bits, but perhaps one of the most surprising
01:17is the appearance of the T-1000.
01:24When Wayne races over to where Cassandra is shooting a music video, he's pulled over
01:27by a police officer on a motorcycle.
01:29There's a slow build-up as the cop walks up to the Garth Mobile, takes off his helmet,
01:33and holds up a picture asking Wayne if he's seen the boy.
01:42Of course, it's Robert Patrick reprising his role from Terminator 2 Judgment Day.
01:46Understandably, Wayne takes off screaming.
01:48We would too.
01:50Number 18.
01:51The Notepad from North by Northwest.
01:53The Big Lebowski.
01:54The dude gets caught up in an elaborate extortion plot when he's mistaken as Jeffrey Lebowski,
01:59given that he and the other Lebowski share the same name.
02:02This brings the dude into contact with Jackie Trehorn, a big-time producer of Erotica.
02:23He meets Trehorn at his home, where they're trying to work out a solution to their problem.
02:27Suddenly, Trehorn gets a call and writes something down on a notepad.
02:30He momentarily leaves the room, and the dude cleverly shades the notepad Trehorn used
02:34only to find he drew a dirty sketch.
02:44This is a spoof on North by Northwest, where the same technique is used, but it yields
02:48useful information.
02:50Number 17.
02:51Dawn of Man from 2001 A Space Odyssey.
02:54Zoolander.
02:55The fashion industry has been behind many political assassinations over the years, and
02:59the Malaysian Prime Minister is the next target.
03:08Derek Zoolander and Hansel McDonald break into the office of Zoolander's agent to recover
03:12incriminating computer files.
03:14However, the duo aren't exactly the brightest and don't actually know how to operate or
03:18even turn on the computer.
03:19Puzzled, they resort to slapping and hitting the machine while making ape vocalizations.
03:30This is very similar to how the apes in 2001 A Space Odyssey react once the monolith appears.
03:35Hansel is even about to use a bone to strike the computer, but he's stopped by Derek.
03:39Number 16.
03:40Kevin Costner from Robin Hood Prince of Thieves.
03:43Robin Hood Men in Tights.
03:45After being captured during the Crusades, Robin of Loxley returns to England to find
03:49that his home has been repossessed and that King John, along with the Sheriff of Rottingham,
03:53have been unfairly treating the citizens of the land.
04:06Robin decides to confront the King at a lavish banquet.
04:08He openly accuses John of being an usurper and demands that he stops levying new taxes
04:13or he will leave the people of England in a rebellion.
04:16When John asks why people should listen to him, Robin replies that he can actually speak
04:20with an English accent.
04:30This is a direct reference to Kevin Costner's performance in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves,
04:34where he doesn't exactly sound like an English native.
04:37Number 15.
04:38The post-credits scene from Ferris Bueller.
04:40Deadpool.
04:41Deadpool is known for breaking the fourth wall and addressing the audience, so it should
04:45be no surprise that he pays tribute to Ferris Bueller, another character who frequently
04:48looks into the camera.
04:55Of course, post-credits scenes are fairly common, especially for superhero movies, and
04:59at the end of Deadpool, we're treated to Mr. Pool in a bathrobe telling us to go home
05:04because there's not going to be a teaser for Deadpool 2.
05:11This takes a page from Ferris Bueller's Day Off, where post-credits, Ferris berates
05:15the audience for sticking around after the film is over.
05:17It's a nice touch.
05:18Number 14.
05:20You Like Apples from Good Will Hunting.
05:21Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
05:23In order to stop a movie being made about their comic book alter egos, Jay and Silent
05:27Bob travel to Hollywood.
05:34When they finally arrive in Tinseltown, they sneak into Miramax's studio lot, and we
05:38get to take a look at some of the other projects going on.
05:40Jay and Silent Bob find themselves on the set of Good Will Hunting 2, Hunting Season.
05:45They revisit the bar scene from Good Will Hunting, where Will faces off against Clark.
05:49Everything about this scene is over-the-top, from director Gus Van Sant counting money
05:52in the corner, to Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's performance as fictionalized versions of themselves.
06:12Number 13.
06:13Their House Stands from Footloose.
06:15Hot Rod.
06:16Looking to make a name for himself and earn the respect of his stepfather, Frank, Rod
06:20Kimble returns home one day to find out that Frank needs a heart transplant or he'll die.
06:37Looking to vent his frustrations, Rod goes to his quiet place, which is in the middle
06:40of the forest.
06:41Here, he dances out his pent-up anger in a similar fashion to Kevin Bacon's Ren McCormick
06:46in Footloose.
06:47Rod's dancing may not be as smooth as Ren's, but the whole scenario is quite humorous,
06:51especially when it abruptly ends rolling down a hill for what seems like an eternity.
07:02Number 12.
07:03Feeling Lucky from Dirty Harry.
07:05The Mask.
07:06Stanley Ipkiss' life changes when he comes across a mysterious mask.
07:09He goes from a down-on-his-luck pushover to a wild, charismatic, and confident individual.
07:26Towards the end of the movie, in order to rescue the girl and save the day, as The Mask,
07:30he confronts Dorian Tyrell's henchmen.
07:32He pulls out a huge arsenal of weaponry and asks them if they feel lucky.
07:36This is, of course, a reference to Dirty Harry, complete with Jim Carrey's spot-on
07:39impression of Clint Eastwood.
07:54Much like Harry Callaghan, The Mask's weapons are empty, but that's revealed after the
07:58henchmen run away.
07:59Number 11.
08:00Makeover from She's All That.
08:02Not another teen movie.
08:04Although it parodies several teen rom-coms, perhaps one of the funniest moments from Not
08:08Another Teen Movie is when Janie Biggs receives a makeover.
08:19The moment is lifted from She's All That, where Lainie Boggs is given a makeover by
08:23Zack Siler's sister before going out to party.
08:26The previously nerdy Boggs is revealed to be drop-dead gorgeous.
08:29When Janie gets her makeover by simply having her glasses removed and her hair let down,
08:33it highlights the fact that the supposed unattractive nerdy characters are played by
08:37attractive actresses.
08:43The scene is capped off by Janie falling through the stairs when she reveals her new look.
08:47Number 10.
08:48Disco dancing from Saturday Night Fever.
08:50Airplane.
08:51Sure, it may be about nothing more than a group of quirky airport employees, but Airplane
08:55is one of the greatest and most quotable satirical comedies ever.
09:11Even though it mostly parodies the disaster film genre overall, the best spoof in Airplane
09:15is its pretty much shot-for-shot remake of a famous moment in Saturday Night Fever.
09:20In the scene, the main protagonist, Ted Stryker, is telling the story of how he met his one
09:24true love, Elaine, and it involves a bar, the Bee Gees, and a rather silly version of
09:28a disco dance number originally performed by John Travolta.
09:31From the choreography to the famous zingers, Airplane's level of comedy stays sky-high
09:36throughout, and especially in this scene.
09:45Number 9.
09:47Staircase shootout from The Untouchables and Battleship Potemkin.
09:50Naked Gun 33 1 3rd, The Final Insult.
09:52It may be the lowest-grossing Naked Gun film, but 33 1 3rd still brings the spoofs.
10:02In fact, the film's opening is a parody of a parody.
10:05It recreates a famous scene from 1987's The Untouchables, which in turn recreated
10:09the famous Odessa Steps sequence from 1925's Battleship Potemkin.
10:13Frank Trebin is waiting for, uh, something, when he decides to help a woman with a baby
10:18carriage up the many, many stairs.
10:20Much like Kevin Costner.
10:21But once the mobsters show up, Trebin starts a wild shootout that involves multiple falling
10:25strollers – President Clinton, the Pope, mass-murdering mailmen, and awkwardly, O.J.
10:30Simpson, just before the infamous murder.
10:40As if that weren't funny enough, it's all a dream.
10:43Number 8.
10:44T-Rex reveal from Jurassic Park, Wayne's World 2.
10:48Whether he's crashing weddings like Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate, or pulling off the
10:51Thelma and Louise ending, Mike Myers is clearly a movie buff.
11:00But for our money, the best spoof scene in Wayne's World 2 is his parody of Jurassic
11:04Park, which was released a mere six months before this sequel.
11:07Wayne and Garth are trying to plan a music festival called WayneStock, and they're
11:11scouting the location on a rainy day.
11:13But all of a sudden, they encounter a T-Rex, paying homage to an iconic shot in the Steven
11:17Spielberg film.
11:28How did Wayne and Garth end up in Jurassic Park, you may be asking?
11:31We're not worthy of the answer.
11:33Number 7.
11:34Always Been Here from The Shining, Hot Fuzz.
11:36Like many movies on this list, this badass British police comedy is a satire of an entire
11:41genre's worth of films, but the scene we've selected parodies something entirely different.
11:49Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are two police officers trying to solve a mystery in a quaint little
11:53village.
11:54When Pegg's character, Nicholas Angel, is checking into his hotel, he's met with a
11:58line of dialogue eerily reminiscent of The Shining.
12:00However, whereas Jack Torrance's hotel chat is with a ghost, Sergeant Angel is just trying
12:05to get to his room.
12:06Fortunately, the hotel Angel checks into isn't haunted, and the conversation is followed
12:09by a slew of hilarious misunderstandings involving a crossword puzzle.
12:24Number 6.
12:25Headspin from The Exorcist, Toy Story.
12:27Like any animated feature worth its salt, Pixar's breakout movie about the secret life
12:31of toys threw in enough jokes for the adults to keep parents entertained alongside their
12:35kids.
12:36In an effort to teach budding psychopath Sid a lesson and save his buddy Buzz, Woody enlists
12:50the help of Sid's other victims to scare the bejesus out of the toy torturer.
12:55During the ambush, our favorite cowboy doll takes a page out of the Exorcist book, spinning
12:59his head around a full 360 much like the possessed Reagan McNeil does in front of two
13:03shaken priests.
13:04It may be a little heavy for a kid's movie, but nonetheless, the reference fits perfectly.
13:18Now let's use Sid to play nicer with toys.
13:20Number 5.
13:21Chestburster from Alien, Spaceballs.
13:24Following a Han Solo-like character and his half-man, half-dog sidekick as they travel
13:28the galaxy to defeat the evil Lord Dark Helmet and save a princess, this Mel Brooks space
13:32spoof tackles Star Wars, parodying everything from Imperial cruisers to near-declarations
13:37of fraternity.
13:50But it's got a dead-on Alien spoof we just can't forget.
13:53During their travels, Captain Lone Star and Barf stop at a diner, where John Hurt also
13:58happens to be eating.
13:59What follows is a scene we swear we've seen somewhere before.
14:02Making this otherwise disgusting Alien parody even funnier is the fact that the chestburster
14:06then performs a charming musical number, a la Michigan J. Frogg.
14:15Say what you will, but that's adorable.
14:17Number 4.
14:18Fatherly reveal from The Empire Strikes Back, Austin Powers' The Spy Who Shagged Me.
14:23One of the most hilarious spoof scenes in this satire of James Bond is actually another
14:27parody of Star Wars.
14:28Austin and Dr. Evil have finally caught up with each other on the villain's moon base,
14:32when the good doctor makes a stunning reveal.
14:38However, unlike The Empire Strikes Back, Dr. Evil is of course not Austin's father, and
14:53claim is.
14:54Hey, at least he was honest, right?
14:55What ups the funny factor of this scene even more is how out of nowhere it is.
15:05And lucky for Austin Powers fans, this spoof scene is one of many.
15:09Number 3.
15:10Bulletproof vest trick from A Fistful of Dollars, Back to the Future Part III.
15:14The third installment of the BTTF franchise follows Marty McFly and Doc Brown to 1885,
15:18where they can reference as many movies as they want, and no one will know what they're
15:22talking about.
15:36In fact, while in the Old West, Marty goes by the name of Clint Eastwood, and that piece
15:40of foreshadowing comes into play near the end of the film.
15:42Marty, or Clint, has agreed to face Mad Dog Tannen in a gunfight, but being from 1985,
15:49he has a century's worth of wisdom to help him out at the showdown.
16:01Marty taps into his film knowledge, copying the real Clint Eastwood's move in A Fistful
16:04of Dollars, by taking a boilerplate and using it as a makeshift bulletproof vest.
16:09Bad ass.
16:11Number 2.
16:12Garage door death from Scream, Scary Movie.
16:14If you remember the 90s, you know that teen horror flicks made a big comeback during that
16:19decade, and with them, they brought the inevitable spoofs.
16:34Scary Movie takes aim at many popular horror films, but the scene we've chosen mocks
16:38an iconic death from 1996's Scream.
16:40A young party-goer is trapped in the garage by Ghostface, but where things diverge from
16:45is when the girl tries to escape through the kiddie flap in the garage door.
16:48This girl doesn't get her head crushed by the opening garage, no, due to her weight,
16:52she causes everything to collapse on top of her.
16:55Seeing Ghostface's reaction to the incident makes this moment comedic gold.
17:07You have the option to be notified for occasional videos or all of them.
17:11If you're on your phone, make sure you go into your settings and switch on notifications.
17:18Number 1.
17:19Defoe death from Platoon, Tropic Thunder.
17:21Since this Ben Stiller joint is a satire of the film industry as a whole, it's littered
17:25with hysterical references to past films and actors.
17:28But one of the most memorable spoof scenes comes at the beginning of the movie, when
17:34the actors are filming an intense and expensive action sequence for their fictional film,
17:39also called Tropic Thunder.
17:40Stiller's character, Tug Speedman, was running out of the jungle, hands to the sky, as he
17:44shot multiple times.
17:50This moment was, of course, originally made famous by Willem Dafoe in Oliver Stone's
17:54Platoon, and Stiller and co. do it comedic justice.
17:56The scene is so overly dramatic, it's perfect, and it makes us cry tears of laughter every
18:01time.
18:02What's your favorite spoof scene?
