00:00First, let me introduce my alter ego, Tina Lena Turner, and this is worth a fair bit
00:08of cash.
00:09At a cancer support fundraiser held in Griffith last Friday, my song partner Glenn Starr from
00:16the local Triple M Breakfast challenged the 700-strong crowd to reach a $100,000 target.
00:26But only if I took Tina to Parliament House.
00:30As any country MP will tell you, cancer can be a tougher curse in the country through
00:36the tyranny of distance.
00:37Two years ago, I announced around $5 million from the coalition government for a new cancer
00:42centre in Griffith.
00:43Now, that money gets you the bricks and mortar, but there's always more needed for patient
00:47care, medical costs and equipment.
00:50No doubt inspired by the spirit of the occasion, the $100,000 was doubled to $200,000 by Chair
00:57of Cancer Care Foundation Dr Tony Noon and his family.
01:01I want to thank the incredible generosity of the Griffith and Leeton communities who
01:05made this night such an awesome success.
01:08When things need doing out in the Riverina, we just get it done.
01:13A special thanks also to you, Mr Speaker, for allowing me to use Parliament to support
01:19this worthwhile cause, and for your generosity in also supporting the cause.
01:23I thank the House.
