Man charged with murder over Newnham stabbing (29/8/24)

00:00At about 2.45pm yesterday, police and emergency services were called to an address in Newnham

00:07with reports that a man had been stabbed at that address.

00:11Police attended with paramedics and a male person was taken into custody immediately

00:20and a male victim was taken to the Launceston General Hospital

00:25but unfortunately was pronounced deceased.

00:28They are known to each other, further to that we will have to establish that through the investigation.

00:34A female resides at the residence and the victim attended the residence

00:40and a fight ensued between him and the accused and that's where he received the stab wound to his chest.

00:47It was an isolated incident, it happened at a private residence

00:51and the offender and the accused were known to each other.

00:56Police and emergency services responded quickly and the offender was taken into custody.

01:02The wider community shouldn't be concerned.

01:05We're doing everything in our power.

01:07We understand that there are a lot of knives that are being carried by youth

01:12and we're frequently finding those when they're arrested

01:16and all knives that are found are seized and appropriate charges are laid.
